I plan to use the TV as a pc monitor and I prefer NOT to use the sleep mode therefore:
1) Can you turn the sleep mode OFF?
2) If sleep can NOT be turned off, What is the maximum IDLE time BEFORE the sleep mode automatically starts?
3) How QUICK does it respond from the sleep mode?

I kept Windows 7 and use a TV as my monitor as well. I found that the thing putting my monitor to sleep was only in my Windows settings. As long as a message was being sent to my TV, the feed stayed active. See Control Panel>Power Options> Edit Plan Settings (change when computer sleeps)

If you want to do it yourself, you can follow this video. The left over part appears to be a "you voided your warrantee" thing. If you want it to remain under warrantee, you can contact Sony and send the system to them, though it WILL take a while due to shipping, etc...
