If you're into the mythos of these characters, you'll love it start to finish. But if you're a newbie, you'll feel one step behind. STILL, this is a WONDERFUL fantasy adventure (with a lot of "in" jokes that gen X'ers will enjoy). All in all, it's a fun ride - I say TAKE IT!
Captain America is the most three dimensional character in the Marvel universe. This movie has a story and character development (as well as first class special effects). If there's anything to fault, its that its a little too long and the second half lets the special effects overwhelm the story. But, all in all, a great action movie that I'd recommend to a friend.

What's great about it: Actually has a story and character development
What's not so great: The second half is CGI overkill
2 guys aspiring to be financial wizards discover someone's been stealing from the company - only it turns out to be their boss ... who invites them to his oceanfront retreat to "discuss" it over the weekend. Problem: the mob kills their boss for being "discovered" - but why should that spoil the weekend? So the boys decide to make out like the "corpse" is still alive, and ... well, you get the idea. It's a clever and funny absurd comedy and worth a look.

What's great about it: A modern "screwball" comedy that's worth a look,
What's not so great: Nothing "spectacular" about it.
This collection of four movies featuring the monster Gamera includes Gamera: The Giant Monster, Gamera vs. Barugon, Gamera vs. Gyaos, and Gamera vs. Viras.
OK, here's the deal: Kick your "willing suspension of disbelief" into gear and just enjoy. This movie is from a time when fantasy not only had a "gutt" appeal, but tried to send a message as well. Here's a "monster" that not only wreaked havoc, but loved kids. What else is there to say?

What's great about it: Four "monster" movies from the golden age of Japanese fantasy allegorical cinema.
What's not so great: Kids raised on CGI will find the "special effects" laughable.
This movie is hip, funny, and wonderfully entertaining. I'm surprised (and delighted) that they were able to work so many pop culture referrents (that bridge generations) into the plot.

What's great about it: The critics were right! This was an unexpected surprise.
What's not so great: CGI poses as "stop motion" animation.
Make no mistake - in the genre of '50's Sci-Fi, this is a classic (the fact that they've tried to re-make it TWICE speaks to that)! It's in B/W, but widescreen, and the transfer to blu-ray is very good (the phenomenon of backgrounds being "crawly" when they transfer old movies to blu-ray is well under control). Yes, it's a little "dated", but still WELL worth a look (do yourself a favor). One sad omission - there are no "extras" (even though I know that an interview with star Kevin McCarthy is available).

What's great about it: A product of Cold War paranoia that's STILL relevant!
What's not so great: A little low budget and a bit melodramatic.
A burnt-out book editor takes a train from LA to Chicago to be "bored". Instead, he finds murder, deception, and a "hot" secretary. OK, so it's "dated"! It's STILL lots of fun with Gene Wilder, Richard Pryor, Jill Clayburgh, Patrick MvGoohan, Ned Beatty, and a host of other recognizable actors in "bit" parts. What more do you WANT?

What's great about it: A fun parody of "North By Northwest", etc.
What's not so great: NO extras, NO setup options, not even a MENU.
