A Rocky Start But Well Worth It
on March 9, 2023

My experience with the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 was a bit of a mixed bag. Don't get me wrong though, after everything is said and done, this monitor is capable of producing the most incredible picture quality that you've likely ever seen on a current gen gaming monitor (at 1440p that is). However, the journey to get there for me was a bit of a frustrating path (albeit, one that was worth it). Upon unboxing the Samsung Odyssey G8 OLED, I was greeted with an extremely simple assembly process: 1. Screw the base into the stand 2. Snap the stand onto the back of the display 3. Place on your desk! In terms of aesthetics, Samsung knocked it out of the park. I love the design of this monitor with it's extremely thin bezels and it's minimalist stand. The build quality of the display is a combination of plastic and aluminum which helps keep the monitor light without sacrificing on premium build quality.
My trials and tribulations with the G8 OLED began when connecting the monitor via the included Mini-Display Port to Display Port cable to my graphics card. For reference, I have an AMD XFX Radeon 6900 XT. For the life of me, I could not get the fully rated specs of 175Hz @ 3440x1440 resolution with HDR10 (10 bit color space) enabled. Using the included Mini-DP to DP cable, the highest color depth I was able to achieve at 175Hz @ 3440x1440 resolution was 6-bit. I ensured that my AMD Adrenalin drivers were fully up to date, made sure all Windows updates were up to date, and also made sure the monitor had the latest firmware (which it installed during setup). I then spent hours trying different settings in AMD Adrenalin as well as Windows to achieve 10-bit at 3440 x 1440 with 175Hz to no avail. I decided to order a Micro HDMI adapter (to standard HDMI on the other end) as well as a Micro HDMI to HDMI cable to see if I had better results in achieving full 10 bit color depth at the rated specs. My results was a mixed bag of sorts. Here are the results I achieved with both Mini-DP to DP and Micro HDMI to HDMI setups:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GPU: AMD XFX Speedster MERC319 Radeon 6900 XT Black w/ HDMI 2.1 VRR and FRL & DP 1.4 with DSC
Latest AMD Adrenalin Drivers: 23.2.2
Results using included Mini-DP to DP cable:
Resolution: 3440 x 1440
Refresh Rate: 175Hz
Color Depth: 6-bit
Pixel Format: RGB 4:4:4 Pixel Format PC Standard (Full RGB)
Notes: I was unable to select 8-bit or 10-bit color depth at this resolution. I was also unable to tweak the chroma subsampling color space settings such as YCbCR 4:2:2 or YCbCR 4:4:4 to try and achive 8-bit or 10-bit color depth.
If I reduced the refresh rate to 120Hz, I was then able to select 10 bpc color depth - RGB 4:4:4 Pixel Format PC Standard (Full RGB)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Results using either Micro HDMI adapter to high speed HDMI cable or Micro HDMI to HDMI cable:
Resolution: 3440 x 1440
Refresh Rate: 175Hz
Color Depth: 8 bpc or "8-bit with dithering"
Pixel Format: RGB 4:4:4 Pixel Format PC Standard (Full RGB)
If I reduced refresh rate to 120Hz, I was then able to select 10 bpc color depth - RGB 4:4:4 Pixel Format PC Standard (Full RGB)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure if this is some type of limitation of the specific panel I received or if there's a limiting factor in my personal setup or configuration. However, it's hard to to believe the latter as my GPU is fully HDMI 2.1 & DP 1.4 w/ DSC compliant. I was also using the included Samsung Mini-DP cable that came in the box.
Despite the fact that 8-bit color depth was the highest I was able to achieve, it did not detract from how truly breathtaking the visuals were on this OLED panel. Playing HDR enabled games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Doom Eternal, and Forza Horizon 5 in HDR True black 400 is something that needs to be seen in person. These are the inkiest and darkest blacks I've ever seen on any display. The colors are incredibly vivid and vibrant without being too over saturated. White color uniformity is extremely good without any signs of discoloration. There is zero backlight bleed when viewing dark backgrounds or scenes (an all black background looks like the monitor is powered off!). Tested the 0.1ms response time by playing CS:GO and WOW! Definitely the fastest monitor I've tested. I also love the anti-reflective coating that Samsung used on this monitor. It is by far the best I've ever seen. It has a glass-like effect to it that really makes everything pop. It reminds me of the iconic CRT Viewsonic monitors back in the day with their beautifully rich contrast. Since this is a 1440p monitor, I love how incredibly versatile it's use case is since it's suited for the mid to high end GPU tiers. This would pair perfectly for those with 6800/6900 XTs, 7900XTX/XT, 4070/4080s, 3070/3080/3090s, etc. Some may consider the 4090 to be a bit overkill for it's rated 1440p resolution. However, I would argue that this is still a great monitor for a 4090 as you'd be surprised at the graphical resources required to run certain games consistently at 150+ FPS with all settings maxed out (such as RDR2 or Callisto Protocol). This would also be the monitor I would choose if I decided I was going to play my games with ray tracing on as the performance hit would likely bring you back into 1440p territory (if you prefer playing with higher frame rates) even with a 4090.
Overall, despite the initial color space obstacles with the included Mini DP cable, the time invested in getting the monitor setup and configured properly was well worth it. This is without a doubt the best looking display I've ever seen. After years of using IPS, PLS, and VA panels, I don't think I can ever go back to anything that's not OLED. If I had to list any other cons, it would likely be the somewhat bloated and clunky to navigate Samsung UI. If you're going to use a lot of the multimedia features in the UI, such as the streaming apps like Netflix and Samsung TV Plus (which is free btw!), then you may find it useful. For my personal liking, there's too many button presses required to do simple tasks like change inputs or go directly into your picture settings. On gaming monitors, I personally prefer lightweight and minimalistic menu UIs. Other than that, there's not much to dislike. If you're an avid PC gamer and want the absolute best in-game visuals, I highly suggest you give this monitor a try!

Still the King of Electric Shavers
on February 20, 2023
Posted by: k1zit
As you can probably tell by my pictures, I'm a huge fan of Philips grooming products. I've been using their grooming products (almost exclusively) for over the last 10 years. I switched from the Braun series 9 foil shavers years ago and never looked back. To cut to the chase, this shaver is yet another home run from Philips when it comes to their flagship electric shavers...well, mostly a home run. While I was mostly very pleased with the shaving performance and overall package of this newly upgraded S9000 Prestige shaver, there were a couple of points of contention that kept it from receiving a five star review.
In terms of it's shaving performance, this new S9000 Prestige delivers an incredibly smooth and close shave that seems to just effortlessly glide over your skin. I'm a long time owner of the previous generation S9000 Prestige shaver and I always raved about how comfortable the shaving experience was with that shaver. Well, Philips has somehow managed to improve upon that and this is now the new king of comfort. I believe it has to do with the larger surface area of the new shaving head design along with it's "Hydro SkinGlide coating" tech. When I first read this on the box, it sounded like a bit of marketing jargon. However, once I used it (dry shave), I could instantly tell that it had some type of coating on the heads that allowed them to just freely glide over my skin. The result was a silky smooth shave. Also, it's worth mentioning that I have very sensitive skin (eczema is one of my skin conditions). This shaver never caused any type of irritation or skin discomfort.
When I first received the shaver, I purposely grew out a 4 day beard to see how the shaver performed. The shaver performed flawlessly on the medium and high settings. Not once did I ever feel any hairs being pulled nor any lack of cutting power. The shaver effortlessly cut through hairs. Using it on the 'high' setting also helped minimize the amount of passes. Despite the 4 day beard, the shave was still incredibly smooth and comfortable. The resulting shaves were also very close to the skin rivaling that of a manual razor. Despite the great performance of this shaver, once in a while, the plastic lip around the bottom shaving head would sometimes catch on my chin a bit. There's no discomfort, it's just more of a small annoyance when it slightly catches as it slows down my shave more than anything. This only happens when I'm shaving my chin area. This is something that never used to happen on my previous gen S9000 Prestige. I believe this is due to the added flex of the new shaving head design and how the surface area around the shaving heads come to a point. As you can see in my picture, when the top two shaving heads are pressed downward, it creates a gap whereby the lower lip of the shaving head has the potential of catching on oddly shaped surfaces like the chin. I tried shaving in perfect circular motions and decreased the pressure applied to my chin but no matter what I did, it would still manage to catch a little bit once in a while. I do happen to have a prominent "cleft chin" so it could just be the shape of my chin and the new design that doesn't play as well as the previous gen design did.
The cleaning station is a very welcome addition to the S9000 Prestige line. The base station has a minimal design and doesn't take up too much space. The shaver does a great job of detecting when it's placed on the cleaning base. All you have to do is press the 'Power' button once it's in the base and the 1 minute deep clean cycle begins. I love the deep clean feature as it not only does a phenomenal job of cleaning the shaver from hairs, but it also leaves your shaver smelling amazing with a fresh out of the shower aquatic scent. I also love that you get the option of using the included push button to quickly expose the shaving head in order to give them a manual rinse. This is perfect if you want to conserve some of your deep clean cycles or if you're traveling and don't have access to the base station. Although I love the cleaning base station, here's where my second point of contention comes in. While overall, the shaver and base is extremely high quality from a build & construction perspective, I hope that Philips figures out a way in the future to integrate the charging capability into the cleaning base station. As you can see from my pictures, it's just simply not a great presentation having the cord dangling on top of the shaver while it's in its base. It's also a bit of a nuisance to have to manually keep plugging and unplugging the cord in order to charge it. While one could make the argument that the charging cord is useful for traveling purposes, why not make a cleaning base with charging capabilities AND include a separate charging cable for travel? Adding this capability along with having rounded surface area lips around the shaving heads would have made this a 5 star electric shaver for me.
Overall, the new S9000 Prestige is still one of the best, if not the best, flagship electric shaver on the market. It delivers one of the closest and most comfortable shaves that you can get from an electric shaver. The battery performance on this shaver was also incredible. I used this for 7 days straight on a single charge. I used the shaver each day in the morning for about a 5 minute shaving session each time. On some days I used the shaver twice a day. This also included 3 deep clean cycles throughout this 7 day period. At the end of the week, I was still at 45% battery. I also love the included accessories. As you can see from my pictures, Philips has slimmed down the travel case a lot! It used to be quite cumbersome using the older travel case on my previous gen s9000 Prestige due to it's bulky size. I'm loving this newer more travel friendly sized case. Still the same high quality hard case material! The included trimmer also worked great for trimming my sideburns. If you're looking for one of the closest and most comfortable shaves that you can get on an electric razor, the new S9000 prestige will not disappoint.

A High End Audio Experience in A Small Form Factor
on February 6, 2023
Posted by: k1zit
The level of immersive sound that this soundbar is able to produce is incredible; especially given it's sleek and minimalist form factor. If you're looking for a serious home theatre audio experience but you either don't have the space for a traditional 7.1 surround system, or simply don't want to deal with the added complexity, this is a fantastic alternative. Over the course of the last week, I have paired this soundbar with my smart TV and have put it through its paces by playing PS5 titles, watching 4k blurays, and streaming content through platforms like Netflix, Disney Plus, and YouTube. Regardless of what content I watched, the audio always sounded extremely high quality. The bass that this soundbar is capable of producing is impressive due to it's built-in dual 4 inch subwoofers. The mids are clear and crisp due to it's seven high-end aluminum cone drivers. The AMBEO surround sound virtualization technique that this soundbar uses is very positionally accurate and did a phenomenal job of filling the entire room. Although watching & listening standard audio format content sounded great, hearing Dolby Atmos content was on another level (you can tell when the soundbar has detected Dolby Atmos content as the "Dolby Atmos" LED will turn on). Personally, I found some of the best selection of Dolby Atmos content on Netflix which made my experience with this soundbar that much better. Watching "Extraction" and "The Gray Man" blew my mind. It truly felt like I had side and rear speakers. Bullets sounded like they were flying above me and around me. Sound effects during action scenes sounded rich and defined. Explosions sounded thunderous and boomy without getting muddled or distorted. The only sound signature that didn't seem to be quite on par with the rest of the high end audio experience was the dialogue. While it sounded clear and crisp, the vocal reproduction didn't have the vibrancy and richness that I was expecting from such a high end soundbar. I tried several different audio presets but it still didn't quite meet my expectations. I stumbled across the "voice enhancement" feature and VOILA; what a massive difference! I have found that for Dolby Atmos content the "Movie" + "Voice" presets sound the best to me. Non Dolby Atmos content sounded the best to me when using "Neutral" + "Voice" or "Adaptive" + "Voice". Keeping the "AMBEO" surround tech feature on was a must for me; especially when playing video games. The immersive experience that is lost without it is pretty significant.
In terms of setup, it was a breeze. The soundbar has multiple inputs for all of your audio sources (eARC HDMI, 2 additional HMDI inputs, an ethernet port, fiber optical input, USB-A, composite L+R input, and a subwoofer preout). Yes, you can connect an external subwoofer to this soundbar if you truly want to take the low frequency channel to the next level. For me, the built-in dual subwoofers were more than enough to provide ample bass for my 1400 sq foot townhome living room. The Sennheiser "Smart Control" app is a must download if you get this soundbar. It allows you to properly calibrate the soundbar depending on your environment. It does so by using 4 built-in far field high-precision microphones along with it's proprietary algorithm to detect things like sound reflection and refraction. Just make sure the room is quiet, sit back for a few minutes, and let it do it's thing. The app also allows you to select all the different features that are found on the remote like the audio presets, volume, sources, etc. Speaking of the remote, it is very high quality! It has a very good heft to it and I love the included rubber feet; they do such a good job of keeping the remote stationary that they almost feel like magnets! Despite how superb the remote feels, the only minor cons that I have with this soundbar have to do with the remote. The first minor annoyance is that Sennheiser decided not to illuminate the buttons. It would be great to see Sennheiser put a sensor on the remote that illuminates the buttons when it's picked up. The second minor con is that there's no dedicated mute button. While you can use the circular multi-purpose button located at the top of the remote, you have to hold it down for a few seconds and then it takes a few more seconds for it to mute/unmute. This is a viable solution but I would have preferred the ability to instantly mute.
Overall, this is hands-down the best soundbar I've ever heard. There's no comparison with the sub two-hundred dollar Yamaha soundbar that it's replacing in my living room. The difference in high quality audio was instantly noticeable. A very welcome surprise was how amazing music sounded with this soundbar. I can't stress enough how impressed I am with music playback on this thing. Listening to Diana Krall and Sarah Brightman on the "Music" preset gave me a similar experience to when I heard Super Audio CDs for the first time back in the day. The vocals are so rich with depth. Mids and highs are crisp and clear. Instruments are easily discernable and sound so natural. Other genres like electronic, reggae, and classical also sounded fantastic! If you're looking for a high end and hassle-free audio experience for both movies and music, you've gotta check out this Ambeo Soundbar Plus!

A Super Comfy & Premium Productivity Headset
on December 25, 2022
Posted by: k1zit
This is an outstanding wireless communications headset if you're a remote worker or you work at the office. As an employee that works in a hybrid environment, I've been able to put this headset through its paces at the office and at home. From start to finish, this has been a seamless experience. Setup was a breeze and worked right out of the box with the included USB bluetooth dongle. Plantronics also thoughtfully included a USB-C adapter to use with the bluetooth USB-A dongle in case you have no available standard USB-A ports on your computer. The construction and build quality of both the headset and the charging stand feel very premium. I love that Plantronics used a rigid aluminum outer headband to add to its durability. Just by holding it you can tell that this thing will take years of abuse. The retractable inner headband and ear cups are made of a very soft and plush memory foam material that makes it extremely comfortable to wear. These are easily the most comfortable productivity headphones I've ever used; perfect for those long meetings!
Over the last several days, I've used this headset a lot in Zoom and Team meetings. I can happily report that in both applications the headset was instantly recognized as the default audio option when checking the audio settings. There really wasn't anything else for me to do other than start using it! I asked my co-workers for feedback on how I sounded during our group meetings and they all reported that I sounded clear. I've also had several one on one meetings with co-workers and they also reported that I sounded crystal clear when I asked for their feedback. The headset audio from others also sounds very clear on my end. Even when walking away about 15 to 20 feet, the call quality remained phenomenal. The active noise cancelling on this headset is fantastic. You get two different levels of ANC in case you want to allow a small amount of background audio to bleed in a bit just in case you want to remain somewhat attentive to your surroundings. I also love the short and unobtrusive flip-up mic boom with its built-in mute button (you can also rotate the mic boom upwards to mute or take the headset off). Not only is the short boom mic more aesthetically pleasing, but I love not having a long stem that extends to the lips which can easily become cumbersome throughout the day. Lastly, the on the fly buttons located on the outer earcups are convenient and easy to use for things like lowering or raising the volume or activating Siri/Google Assistant if you're using this with your mobile.
This is easily one of the most premium headset offerings that you can get for the office. Its performance so far definitely lives up to it's name. However, there were a couple of minor improvements that I would have liked to have seen. Micro USB is such an antiquated standard at this point. I would have really liked to have seen this include a USB-C charging port on the headset instead of Micro USB. Also, instead of only having the option to plug in a USB bluetooth dongle when using this with your computer, I would have loved to have seen the USB bluetooth functionality built right into the charging stand. Since you already have to plug in the charging stand via a USB cable to your computer anyway, it would be nice not having to plug in an additional USB dongle if the headset will primarly be used in a stationary fashion (but still include the USB dongle just in case you want to take the headset on the go and don't want to carry the charging stand with you). Other than these minor gripes, I don't have much else to complain about. Overall, this has been a very premium productivity headset experience that has resulted in zero call quality issues so far. I also can't stress enough how comfortable this headset is. If you're a heavy productivity worker that is constantly in meetings, you will love this headset!

The Undisputed King of Massage Guns
on November 18, 2022
Posted by: k1zit
The effectiveness of the Theragun Pro's ability to help me relieve muscle aches, ease foot pain, and help with post workout recovery, has made me integrate this massage gun into my daily routine. While this massage gun (or any massage gun for that matter) is still not a proper replacement for a sports massage therapist, I do feel a difference in terms of relief when using the Theragun Pro as compared to when I don't. I've used several inexpensive massage gun options in the past. A few things that instantly stood out to me with this fifth generation Theragun Pro is it's amazing amplitude, it's incredibly versatile handle with articulating massage arm, top notch build quality, the best attachments I've ever used on any massage gun, and massage/therapy programs that I can follow along with either directly through the OLED screen or through the Therabody app. Oh, did I mention the crazy amount of stall force on this Theragun Pro? I've never not been able to stall a massage gun; until now. Out of curiosity, I applied as much pressure as I could while using it on my hand to try and get it to stall and was unsuccessful. Do you really need a massage gun to be this powerful? Maybe not everybody, but it's nice knowing that this massage device is capable of producing the deepest tissue massage out of any massage gun on the market (should you ever need to use it).
The reason that the percussive massage of this gun feels so good (at least to me) is because of it's high amplitude (16mm) percussive massage ability. After trying a few different massage guns in the past, 14-16mm has become the sweet spot for me. This provides a deeper and punchier massage that I personally prefer over the vibration type therapy that a lot of other more economic massage guns seem to provide. The speed range of 1750-2400 PPMs is more than enough with this level of amplitude. Another thing that completely sets this massage gun apart for me, is it's iconic handle. No matter what area I'm targeting, I can re-position my grip to whatever feels more natural or comfortable. For me, no other massage gun has come close to providing this level of grip versatility. The attachments that come with the Theragun Pro are by far the best attachments I've ever used on any massage gun (and the best currently on the market in my opinion). The quality is just unrivaled. Every massage gun has their "go-to" all around primary attachment. In this case, it's Theragun's "Dampner" which is the brand's universal attachment. It's easily the best universal attachment I've used due to it's tapered circular shape and the high quality material used. I've also had constant issues with other massage gun attachments getting stuck to my clothing and this hasn't happened at all with any of the Theragun attachments. The "Wedge" attachment has been amazing for my IT bands, my arms, and shoulder blades. Another attachment that does wonders for me is the "Thumb" attachment. I use this a lot on my lower back and my trigger points on my feet whenever I've had a really physical day at work and feel some discomfort in my feet. My feet feel a lot more relieved right before bed and the day after.
A huge benefit to getting this Theragun Pro (and yet another favorite feature of mine) is being able to take advantage of all the preset routines available on Therabody's mobile app. There are 4 preset routines (i.e. Relax, Warm-up, Recover, Sleep) saved directly onto the Theragun's memory that you can use without the app. You also get a nice little visual aid on the OLED display that tells you what part of your body to target. However, for me, the real benefit was in the routines available in the mobile app. There's preset routines for your lower back, bedtime rituals to help you relax, carpal tunnel, "tech neck" for those sedentary workers, sciatica, a ton of different warm-up routines for various sports and activities, several post-workout routines for different sports, and so many others. I do wish that there was a way to save some of these pre-sets directly onto the Theragun Pro so you wouldn't have to always depend on the mobile app. The plethora of routines that are available take this from being a simple percussive massage gun to being a tool that can also be used for relaxation and stress relief.
The Theragun Pro is without a doubt, the best percussive massage device that I've used to date due to the aforementioned reasons. Some last final points that enhanced my experience of using the Theragun Pro is the fact that it uses a standard USB-C charging port, it comes with a premium carrying case with probably the softest velour (on the inside) that I've ever felt, a small carrying case with pockets for each individual attachment, and a 45W USB-C power block and cable. While the Theragun Pro is likely one of the more expensive (if not the most expensive) massage gun options out there, it's also the best massage gun on the market in my opinion. If you're a serious athlete or you're just someone who wants the absolute best option on the market to get some great percussive body relief on the go, I highly recommend giving the Theragun Pro a try!

Premium Ergo Chair with Amazing Back Support
on November 7, 2022
Posted by: k1zit
This is easily one of the most comfortable ergonomic chairs that I've ever sat in. For the past 5 years I've been using the popular Secret Labs Titan gaming chair at home. At work, I've been using company provided ergonomic chairs. Working in a hybrid environment over the last year or so has really allowed me to feel the difference. I've started to notice how much more "at ease" or "fresh" my body feels after a long shift of sitting on a quality ergonomic mesh chair in comparison to my gaming chair. Admittedly, I mainly purchased my gaming chair due to the aesthetics and trendiness at the time. To cut to the chase - do your back a favor and pick one of these up asap! I've been using this Insignia ergo chair over the past week while working from home and the difference has been tremendous! Never thought I'd feel so passionate about a product bearing Best Buy's house brand but I love this thing.
For starters, I have to commend Insignia for the easy setup and instructions. The chair comes disassembled in a large box (would highly recommend delivery; the box is huge!) and very well padded. All the parts come clearly labeled, instructions are very straight forward with accurate illustrations, tools necessary for assembly are included , and Insignia even includes some spare parts in case you receive duds or happen to lose some. The metal arm rests and chair back even have "L" and "R" conveniently inscribed in the appropriate locations. It took me about 30 minutes to have the chair fully assembled. The construction and materials of the chair are very premium. The wheel base is crafted from heavy duty steel that is surprisingly well finished. I was also impressed by the construction of the frame. Best Buy could have easily just constructed the frame to be entirely made of plastic like I see so many other ergo chair brands do in this price range. Instead we get a couple of beautifully designed slabs of steel that start protruding at the base of the seat and then thoughtfully wrap around the entire rear frame of the chair. This not only reinforces the frame of the chair, but adds a very premium aesthetic. Another impressive touch is the heavy duty steel base for the arms. The arm rests themselves are made of a stiff polyurethane foam pad that provides excellent support for your forearms while still being comfy. I love this approach over cloth or leather. Leather chairs always tend to make me sweat (especially in the summer). Both leather and cloth arm rests also typically end up with tears after a few years of use. In terms of longevity, I have no doubt that the materials used in the construction of this chair will easily last me several years. One thing to keep in mind though, is that Insignia recommends a maximum weight limit of 275 lbs.
The actual mesh seat and mesh chair back with built-in lumbar support are the real stars of the show. I have been using this chair for 8-10 hour workdays at home and I couldn't be more pleased. The mesh construction of the seat and chair back provide firm support while being comfortable at the same time. This is due to the flexible nature of the mesh which allows it to contour to my unique body shape. Some of my favorite features of this chair, and what truly make this a five star product for me, is the amount of customizability. You can easily adjust the lumbar support by just gripping it and moving it up or down to adjust the height (this lumbar support has made a tremendous difference for my back; I can actually feel proper support on my lower back). Each level of adjustment has a tactile click. You can also adjust the seat depth! There are seat depth adjustment buttons on both sides of the chair that you simply press in on both sides. This allows you to move the seat back and forth to get your desired depth. This chair also allows you to perfectly dial in how much of a reclining angle you want on your seat back and locks it in place. The arm rest adjustment was also pleasantly versatile. You can adjust the height and also pivot the arm rests inward or outward depending on how close you want your arms to your body. Lastly, you get the ability to adjust the height of the headrest as well as the angle. The headrest is a pleasant addition for those times that you want to take a short break from work and just kick back for a few minutes.
The reason I think this ergo office chair deserves a five star rating is not only because of the practical impact that this has had on my body already, but because of the premium materials used in the construction of the chair along with the thoughtful customizable design cues. I have looked and sat in other ergonomic office chairs in this price range and this one easily takes the cake for me. If you spend a considerable amount of time sitting at home or in your office and you're serious about your posture and back health, I urge you to try one of these ergo chairs. As someone who has spent the last week sitting on this Insignia chair for 8-10 hours a day, I could not recommend this one enough!

The Smartest Smartphone On the Market
on October 31, 2022
Posted by: k1zit
The pixel 7 pro is the smartest phone I've ever used. It took a lot of the things that were lacking in the pixel 6 and pixel 6 pro and vastly improved upon them. Not only does the Pixel 7 pro produce flagship performance, but Google has baked in native support for some of the most cutting AI software technology that I've ever used on any phone. The impressive part is that it accomplishes all of this in a pricing segment that no other competitor can even come close to. Throughout my time using the Pixel 7 pro, I've gathered some key features and details that have made me fall in love with the experience of being a Pixel 7 pro owner.
==========PERFORMANCE==========
Performance is top shelf on this Pixel 7 Pro. The pixel line of phones have never been known for being performance monsters. They have always been synonymous with offering the the most innovative and latest software tech on the market as well as providing the most pure Android OS experience possible. It's no different this time around. While it is not the absolute best performing mobile device on the market, it easily keeps up with the latest Android flagships. For comparison, the Samsung S22 Ultra I benchmarked achieved a single-core score of 1212 and a multi-core score of 3264 on Geekbench 5. The pixel 7 pro's Tensor G2 achieved a single-core score of 1011 and a multi-core score of 2718. The interesting thing is that in real world use, the pixel 7 Pro was as snappy, if not snappier, when opening and loading multiple applications as compared to the Samsung S22 Ultra. Since the pixel 7 pro features the most stock and most optimally tuned version of Android (with zero bloatware), you end up getting an extremely fluid, snappy, and buttery smooth experience that will sometimes supersede a flagship with better synthetic performance numbers. This is thanks to how well Google is able to finely tune and optimize it's Tensor chip to interoperate with the stock Android OS. The pixel 7 pro was an absolute beast when it came to playing games, watching 1440p videos, streaming music, and simultaneously running applications. The pixel 7 pro actually outperformed my Samsung S22 Ultra in 3D Mark's Wild Life gaming benchmark at a rendering resolution of 2560x1440. My pixel 7 pro scored an overal score of 6,362 with an average frame rate of 38.10. The Samsung S22 Ultra came in with an overall score of 6,157 and an average frame rate of 36.90. Not once, even during intense multi-tasking sessions, did my pixel 7 pro encounter any hang ups, sluggishness, crashes, or any type of weird quirks. Some of this is likely attributed to the beefy 12GB of the latest LPDDR5X RAM which is not only great for multi-tasking, but is also great at being power conscious to help preserve as much battery life as possible. The pixel 7 pro provides true flagship performance in a very reasonable pricing segment making this, in my opinion, the absolute best value on the market.
==========SOFTWARE TECH==========
The software tech is where the google pixel 7 pro shines and blows away every mobile device on the market out of the water. The pixel 7 pro is "the smartest smartphone" in my opinion. One of the greatest features that I love using is the "Direct My Call for Businesses" feature. When enabling this feature, every time you call a business's toll free number, the pixel 7 pro will visually display a list of menu options before the automated bot even has a chance to tell you what the options are. This not only saves a ton of time, but it also sometimes helps make what may already be a frustrating situation (due to having to call customer service or tech support), a bit more bearable. Another incredible feature that proves that Google's pixel phones are doing more with their software than any other cell phone company out there is it's native "Call Screen" feature. I love that this is baked directly into the OS (no downloading external apps!). This makes it so that the pixel 7 pro will automatically identify businesses and spam numbers, filter spam calls, check the caller ID and request a reason for the call from the caller. This has already prevented so many unnecessary calls from disturbing me. Another feature on this pixel 7 pro that had me extremely impressed, is the ability of the phone to transcribe your voice to text with the built in recorder. This is a very useful feature for me as I love having the ability to save voice memos on the fly whenever I need to remember something that I will need to recall in the near future. The transcription is near perfect; even down to the punctuation marks. The near flawless transcription isn't just limited to the voice recorder either. Using speech-to-text to send messages and having my voicemails transcribed to text where also insanely accurate. By far, the most perfect transcription I've ever seen on any phone. The list is long with all of the innovative software features you get with the pixel 7 pro (pixel's security hub, personal safety feature, clear calling, and call assist just to name a few more) which makes this the undisputed "smartest smart phone" currently available.
The fingerprint sensor on the pixel 6 was a bit of a let down and I'm happy to report that the new pixel 7 pro fingerprint reader is leagues better. The difference is night and day. Both the pixel 7 pro's fingerprint sensor and face unlock are near flawless; and fast too! There have been a couple of times where I had to scan my finger twice but this was rare. In terms of speed, I compared the fingerprint sensor on the pixel 7 pro next to Samsung's S22 Ultra ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and my results were mixed. Sometimes the pixel 7 pro was quicker to unlock first and sometimes the ultrasonic reader on the S22 ultra was faster. Face unlock was impressively consistent. The only time I had an issue with face unlock not working was in dimly lit areas.
==========DISPLAY & BATTERY==========
The display on the pixel 7 pro is gorgeous. We get a 6.7" OLED display that is capable of 120Hz with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 and a pixel density of 512 ppi (make sure to manually enable 1440p resolution as out of the box the phone comes set to 1080p). This tops both the galaxy S22 ultra AND the iphone 14 pro! While the brightness is still not quite as bright as the S22 Ultra (1750 nits), it gets very close with 1500 nits of peak brightness which is far more than enough for me. This is a vast improvement over the pixel 6's 800 nits peak brightness which I always thought was it's biggest let down when it came to it's display. The color reproduction on this OLED seems fairly accurate. Skin tones look organic and true to life. Blacks are very deep and dark. The color reproduction is not overly saturated like you typically find on Samsung AMOLED displays. 1440p with 120Hz looks absolutely incredible. Videos look very fluid with great contrast. I couldn't recommend this phone enough if you watch a ton of streamed videos or movies on the go.
The 5,000 mAh battery is a powerhouse! My pixel 7 pro easily lasts all day even when I've been using using social media apps, streaming services, and playing the occasional game. I'm getting this level of battery performance even with the "Battery Saver" feature turned off and running at its full 1440p resolution with adaptive display turned off (and brightness turned up to around 75%). Google has also improved its "Extreme Battery Saver" feature from 48 hours on previous pixel models to 72 hours now on this pixel 7 pro. This is a great feature to have if you're in a pinch and need to prolong your battery life.
==========CAMERA==========
The pixel 7 pro takes outstanding pictures with it's triple rear camera system. The pixel 7 pro inherits it's iconic main 50MP camera sensor, 12 MP ultrawide sensor, and a 48MP telephoto lens from it's predecessor but also receives some improvements. We now get an optical-grade 2x zoom and an ultra-wide sensor with an even wider field of view from the previous model. I also love the new macro focus feature which allows you get some close-up macro shots of objects while retaining a high quality image. Pictures on the pixel 7 pro came out looking beautiful with skin tones appearing much more organic and accurate than on a Samsung S22 ultra that I tested it against. Pictures also seem a bit sharper on the pixel 7 pro as compared to the iphone 14 pro or the S22 ultra. I love that pictures on the pixel 7 pro accurately represent colors as opposed to the S22 ultra which seemed to overexaggerate colors.
The magic with the pixel 7 pro is in it's processing. Every time after you take a picture, it will take a second or two to process the image in a way it thinks is best. Normally I am against synthetic "enhancements" like this but the pixel 7 pro does such a phenomenal job with choosing the right levels of sharpness, contrast, color temperature, etc. So much so, that I now trust it to apply it's processing and just give me the best photo possible that it can produce. Taking night photos were excellent as the pixel 7 pro performed well even in low lit conditions. While I had great success with 5x/10x/15x zoom when taking photos, using zoom when recording videos sometimes made them look a bit too post-processed as colors would get pretty messy and quite a bit of details were lost. This was also the case with the new cinematic mode. It made videos appear a bit too post-processed or fake. Since I rarely use zoom when recording videos or different video recording modes, these are more minor gripes for me than anything else.
Overall, the pixel 7 pro is extremely impressive; especially at the pricing segment that it comes in at. This is one of those phones that's not just worthy of becoming your new daily driver, but it's innovative software could also improve certain qualities of life in a way that other phones haven't been able to. If you're looking for your next flagship Android device, I couldn't recommend this one enough!

A Flagship Reborn and Perfected
on September 15, 2022
Posted by: k1zit
I've been using the Logitech G502X Lightspeed Plus for the last week and I haven't been able to stop using it. So much so that I can't decide if the Razer Viper Ultimate V2 Pro is still my favorite mouse of all time or if this Logitech G502X Plus has just taken it's place. After going through countless gaming mice over the years that boast all the latest tech and features, I've narrowed down three core components that matter the most to me: mouse shape and how it conforms to my hand, the sensor, and weight. While these three core components are of most significance to me, the additional components such as the scroll wheel, mouse skates, physical buttons, and software are the defining factors that complete the overall package. They ultimately help aid my decision in whether I make a mouse my daily driver or not. After about a week's use, I'm convinced that Logitech has delivered a flagship product worthy of a daily driver.
For someone with medium to large hands, I find the mouse shape of this Logitech G502X plus right on the cusp of absolute perfection. For context, my hand measures 7.5" height (from the base of my wrist to the tip of my middle finger) by 4.25" width (measuring across my palm including my thumb). While mouse shape and size ultimately comes down to personal preference, I find the shape of this G502X perfect for interchanging between my preferred palm and claw grip. It also has a more prominent hump than the smaller Viper Ultimate V2 which adds an ergonomic comfort that is not present in the Viper Ultimate. While in some scenarios (mainly competitive FPS short gaming sessions) I may still prefer the more low profile shape of the Viper Ultimate V2 Pro, I'm noticing that the more ergo shape of this G502X makes for a much more comfortable experience for long gaming sessions. It does so without compromising on my performance either as I've found the ability to maneuver the mouse to be about the same. While the weight of 104 grams is significantly heavier than a lot of today's popular gaming mice, for my medium to large hands, this was a non issue. I also found that the heavier weight of this mouse is easily counteracted by the stellar mouse shape and thumb rest which provided some of the best handling I've ever experienced. And if you were a big fan of the original G502 (which I certainly was back in the day!), you'll be happy to know that it's now lighter than the original 114 grams.
In terms of the Hero 25k sensor, there's really not much to say other than it's a flawless sensor. I played countless hours of Overwatch, Counter-Strike GO, Vanguard, Warzone, Doom Eternal, etc., and was very impressed with it's insanely accurate tracking performance. I never experienced any sort of input lag, stutter, or delays when using it wirelessly. Another thing I really love is it's default lift off distance out of the box. When using AWPs or scouts in CS:GO, this is something that has always been immediately apparent to me. I either have to mess with LOD settings or scrap the mouse all together. This G502X is well balanced in this regard. Testing the sensor across a multitude of different screen sizes and resolutions with different DPI settings, the tracking always felt perfect.
When it comes to the additional hardware components, this mouse is just well built. The pure PTFE feet glide effortlessly on practically any surface. I'm also a huge fan of the infinite scroll wheel. It's something I find myself using more and more for productivity work. It's also very sturdy with prominent clicks. In terms of the physical buttons, Logitech's new hybrid optical switches feel extremely satisfying. By far the best switches I've ever felt on a mouse. This is something that Logitech has always gotten right and now it's better than ever. They feel very crisp with great tactile actuation. This has always been a bit of a sore point on my Viper Ultimate V2 since the optical switches feel a bit mushy. Of course, this new G502X plus comes with a sniper button as was originally featured back when the G502 was first debuted. I love that Logitech now gives you the option to remove it altogether and replace it with an unobtrusive button that's included in the box. Another feature that I like is the additional G7 and G8 buttons which allow you to map them to whatever you want. By default, they function as DPI toggles (up/down) which is a feature that is being stripped on a lot of new flagship gaming mice in order to make them as light as possible (not a fan!). Lastly, the Logitech G Hub software is a joy to use. It's minimalistic and intuitive design interface accompanied by a plethora of different customization options, just helps to accent what is already a top notch product. G-Hub tells you exactly how much battery you have left (down to the power consumption of your mouse), allows you to set multiple profiles, map buttons, change RGB lighting, create macros, and customize DPI speeds. I love the "on-board memory mode" option. This is perfect for those who don't want to mess with software. Just set everything once and those changes will be saved onto the physical on-board memory of the mouse so your settings will just automatically load whenever you boot your PC.
I was not expecting to like this mouse as much as I did. Although I was a big fan of the original G502, somewhere down the line I got caught up in the ultra light weight gaming mouse trend. So much so, that I had forgotten how iconic this mouse shape (and it's thumb rest) is and how well it conforms to my hand; an easy tradeoff for a slightly heavier mouse that most users can easily adapt to. Combine that with useful software, sleek PTFE feet, amazing hybrid optical switches, a flawless sensor, and an epic scroll wheel, and you have one of the best, if not THE best, flagship gaming mice currently out!

Great Value 4K Gaming Monitor for PC & PS5
on September 8, 2022
Posted by: k1zit
I've been using this monitor on PS5 and on PC over the last week and I've been pleasantly surprised by the specs that this monitor packs in this pricing segment. I was especially impressed by the PS5 features that are automatically detected in order to optimize the picture quality. Although this is by no means one of the highest end 4K gaming monitors on the market, it's certainly one of the best values currently on the market.
For starters, in terms of build quality, the overall construction of the monitor falls somewhere in between the mid tier and premium. The matted white plastic feel sturdy to the touch. The base, with it's all metal feet construction, also feels very solid and robust. I'm a huge fan of the sleek and minimalist design approach by Sony. The monitor looks extremely contemporary and should compliment most users setups at home. One thing to note though, is that due to the very modern design of the stand, the stand only allows the display's height to be adjusted (either up or down) and the ability to tilt the display upwards or downwards. However, you can't pivot the monitor from side to side. Another thing that I wish could have been improved slightly is the bezels. While the side bezels are nice and slim, the bottom bezel is still relatively thick. Would love to see this trimmed down in the future. I'm also a huge fan of the joystick dial on the rear of the monitor as it made it incredibly easy to navigate the menu user interface and adjust settings.
When it came to performance, this monitor was pretty impressive on PC and PS5. Coming from an HDR1000 monitor, I was not expecting much from the HDR600 on this monitor. However, the HDR content looked great! Scenes were fairly bright and the color tones were vibrant and accurate. The blacks are decent, but given that this is an IPS display, you're not going to get the inky deep blacks that a VA panel is capable of producing. I do love the effort by Sony to achieve over 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 color spectrum on these monitors. They also include a color calibration report from the factory! I played several games on PC at 3840 x 2160 at 144hz and 120hz refresh rates and the 1ms response time + GSYNC was fantastic. Not once did I notice any type of ghosting, image blur, or tearing. Since I happen to play a lot of competitive shooters like CS:GO and Overwatch, having the high refresh rate on a high pixel density monitor like this one is a very welcome feature. Since I play a decent amount of FPS games that aren't too GPU intensive, I'm able to run them at 4K while still getting the fluidity of the high refresh rate. That makes this monitor a perfect pairing for these genres in my opinion. Another thing that I was pleasantly surprised with was this monitor's FALD performance. While 96 local dimming zones doesn't sound like a lot, it was more than enough to provide great contrast on this 27 inch display. I'm also happy to report that I did not notice any backlight bleed on any of the edges or corners of my monitor.
I love the amount of inputs on this monitor. You get 3 standard USB ports (USB type A), 1 USB type-B (PC), a USB type-C Display Port, a display port 1.4, and two HDMI 2.1 ports. There's also a 3.5mm headphone jack to connect wired headsets directly to the monitor. The USB ports are especially useful as they act as a KVM switch if you want to have two PCs connected to this monitor with a single keyboard, mouse, and headset. Gaming on PS5 was even more impressive than gaming on PC mainly due to the all of the additional PS5 features that are natively supported on this monitor. The PS5 features are auto genre picture mode (automatically switches the picture mode based on whether you're watching movies or playing games), auto HDR tone mapping (automatically optimizes HDR settings specifically tailored to this monitor), and variable refresh rate (prevents stuttering and screen tearing). I have to say, while the HDR was pretty good on PC, it was even more impressive on PS5 (likely due to the auto HDR tone mapping).
Overall, I think this is a great value monitor considering the specs that we're getting at this price range. I think the value is compounded even further if you happen to own both a PC and a PS5 (mainly because of all the additional native features you get for the PS5). For Sony's first foray into the gaming monitor scene, this is definitely a win!

The Gold Standard of Gaming Controllers
on September 5, 2022
Posted by: k1zit
I've been using this SCUF Instinct Pro controller over the course of the last week to play first person shooters and third person action/adventure/RPG titles on PC. This has become the new gold standard for me. SCUF has been in the controller game for a long time. Longer than almost any third party controller manufacturer that I can think of and it certainly shows with this new Instinct Pro. So many thoughtful design and feature considerations. Also, because of the native Xbox integrations in Microsoft Windows (like Xbox game bar), this controller pairs perfectly with PC and has run without a hitch throughout my time using it.
For starters, the construction and build quality of the controller is extremely high quality. The front faceplate is a very silky and soft matted surface that makes it incredibly comfortable to hold. The rear of the controller handles are covered in a soft rubber texturized finish making it very easy to grip. All of the buttons, triggers, paddles, and thumbticks feel very solid with crisp feedback. I also love the new re-designed paddles on this new instinct pro. They are leagues better than the somewhat obtrusive paddles on the older SCUF controllers. These feel a lot more ergonomic and natural to interact with. There isn't a single component on this controller that feels cheap. I also love the magnetized battery door on the rear of the controller. It's small details like this that make it apparent how much planning and thought went into the design of this product.
There's a great deal of customizability with this SCUF instinct pro; not just from a button mapping/profile perspective, but also from a hardware perspective. The front faceplate of the controller is removeable which allows you to swap out the stock faceplate with a plethora of different colored and themed faceplate kits that you can purchase on the SCUF gaming website. You can also swap out the stock thumbsticks with thumbsticks of different shapes and sizes, as well as swap between a hybrid and standard D-pad. Corsair does throw in a pair of extra thumbsticks in the box (one short domed and one long domed) if you're not a fan of the stock concave thumbsticks (which I personally love!). The included 6 ft USB-A to USB type-C feels very high quality with its braided nylon construction and carbon fiber-like tips. If using this wired, 6ft may not be enough but because it's USB type-C (and not some proprietary cable), it's very easy to source a longer a cable.
In terms of performance, this controller is flawless. I've always used an Xbox controller for PC gaming as the design and shape has always felt the most comfortable and ergonomic in my hands. In terms of design, the shape and dimensions feel the same as a standard Xbox controller. The sames goes for the weight, the buttons, the d-pad, and the thumbsticks. Connecting this to my PC over bluetooth was incredibly easy. I simply held down the pairing button found right above the Xbox logo and my PC instantly detected the controller. Windows then displayed a prompt asking me if I wanted to connect. I was then launching games and the controller was immediately functional with no hiccups.
The controller has three on-board profiles that it allows you to configure. You simply hold down the profile button on the back of the controller until the LED, by the mute mic button, starts blinking. You then simply hold down a paddle and press whatever button you want to map it to. You will see a small white light appear indicating that you've successfully mapped a button. When you're done mapping your paddles, you simply press the profile button again to save your configuration to that profile. I absolutely love how you're able to program buttons on the fly with no software needed. I did this in game multiple times and I can't tell you how great it feels to not have to use an application to do this. The instant trigger feature on this controller is an interesting one but I feel that this play style will come down to preference. You basically toggle little metal levers in the back of the controller (one for each trigger button) and it makes it so that it feels like it "locks" the trigger in place. This makes it so that you can actuate the trigger without having to bottom it out allowing for a faster shot. In real world application, at least for me, I couldn't tell if it actually resulted in quicker shots for me in FPS games. My game performance was the same whether I used the instant trigger feature or not. As mentioned previously, I think this is more of a preference feature. Throughout all the games I played whether it be on steam, battlenet, GOG Galaxy, Origin, etc., the controller was immediately detected. In-game, not once was there ever a disconnection over bluetooth or any type of thumbstick drift. The range was also impressive. I tested playing from 25 feet away from my PC with no connection issues.
Overall, Corsair and SCUF has produced the best controller to date in my opinion. For those looking for the most premium build quality and features in an Xbox controller, which also happens to integrate perfectly with Windows, I highly suggest you give this one a try.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Listen to your favorite songs anywhere with these Bluetooth Audio Technica headphones. They fold inward, letting you conveniently store them when not in-use, and the fitted ear cups prevent outside noise from interfering with sound quality. These Audio Technica headphones run for up to 40 hours on a single charge and have 45mm large-aperture drivers for clear, powerful sound.

Can the 50XBT be charged using a wall adapter like an iPhone cube charger?

It sure can! You would simply need to connect the included USB cable to the wall charger and the other end (Micro-USB side) to the headphones. Just bear in mind that the cable that Audio Technica includes is extremely short!!! (1 ft) so you may want to purchase a longer one or use a longer one that you may already have at home.
