I know you shouldn't do this, but I did, I connected a 5 port switch to a 8 port switch to expand my Gigabit cat 5 network into the other room. And it works great, same internet speeds as I was getting before I did it. Can't say it will work great for you, but Best Buy had a great price so I experimented and it worked for me.
