Perfect for small businesses on the go
on October 22, 2018

I've had this scanner for a little over a week and have used it quite a bit during that time frame. I have another Brother desktop scanner, that is awesome, but this is perfect for on the go.
My wife and I buy, renovate and rent houses and this is perfect for meeting potential tenants to collect their information for background checks and lease signings. Instead of taking pictures with our phones or lugging our other scanner and laptops, we can simply take this scanner, power cord and a thumb drive and we can capture everything we need.
We no longer need to email documents to ourselves because we can just pop out the thumb drive, plug it in our laptop and transfer the documents into a folder. The resolution is adjustable and scans very well. I especially like being able to scan business cards, driver's licenses and credit cards using the card port on the scanner.
The only negative comment I can make about this product is not really with the scanner, but finding the software to download. It wasn't easy to find on Brother's website, but once I found it, I bookmarked it so that I can download it to my other devices without having to search their site for it. I didn't deduct any stars for it because its a one time problem and not really all that big of a deal in the bigger scheme of things.
This is a great portable scanner. Just remember to take the power supply with you when on the go. You cant scan to thumb drive unless its connected to power, but I would rather carry the power supply than my laptop. Excellent product. I would definitely recommend this

Great mouse, took some time to get used to though
on October 19, 2018

I've used this mouse for about 4 or 5 days now and I had to make a conscious effort not to go back to my Logitech MX-910. Initially I had to get used to the larger footprint and placement of the right and left buttons, but after about a day or so of use, I really started to like this device.
The fact that its ergonomic is great, but the best feature for me is being able to drag and drop between my desktop, MacBook and HP laptop, seamlessly. This is where this mouse really benefits me. You can make all kinds of adjustments to the DPI, drag speed and cursor speed after downloading the software. It is a bit awkward looking, but given the fact that I'm on my computer at work for 8-10 hours per day, I will take the benefits over the appearance. If you decide to try this mouse, make an effort to use it exclusively for a few days so that you can get used to it. For me, I wasn't sold on it at first use, but am now convinced.
Logitech has been making some great products lately. I have the Craft keyboard which is by far the best keyboard I've used and now with this mouse make a perfect pair.

Great addition to my Ninja Cookware Family
on October 8, 2018
Posted by: TechFan
from Ohio
I have several kitchen appliances from Ninja and so far none of them have disappointed me and this one was no different. I'm not the primary cook in my house. I prefer the grill to the kitchen, but I was excited to try this out. I never really knew what the point of a pressure cooker was. I mean i have a crockpot and have been more than happy with using it. However, that usually takes some planning. I have to make sure I have all of the ingredients and have thawed out the meat and prepped this and that. This is where the Foodi comes in handy.
Being the guy that I am, I don't really care much for waiting on frozen items to thaw out before I can cook them. There is a recipe that is included with the Foodi that says i can place frozen wings in this thing and and cook them without thawing them out first. This definitely had to be the first thing I cooked.
After following the instructions and adding some of my own spices, I cooked the wings and they surprisingly turned out perfectly crispy and delicious. I tried two other recipes as well. The Teriyaki Chicken, Broccoli and Rice and the Cheesy Chicken Crunchadilla. Now, I will say that you may want to adjust some of the spices they recommend, but my wife loved the Teriyaki Chicken and my kids loved the Crunchadilla. I look forward to trying more of the recipes, but I see this being a staple appliance in my household.
This will take up a lot of storage space because of its size and the extra lid, but its well worth it to me. I think the Ninja folks thought this product through very well. I noticed when I used the pressure cooker and the instructions say to let the pressure release for 10 minutes, i naturally went over to my microwave and set the timer. Then I noticed that the timer on the Foodi started counting up automatically, which is great. It also has an shutoff feature if the display hasn't been touched for 20 minutes. The controls are easy to read and the instructions are simple to follow.
The blender used to be my favorite kitchen appliance, but I think the Foodi pressure cooker is about to take over that title. This cooks meal quickly and they taste great, even when cooking something frozen. With young kids and a busy lifestyle, this is sure to come in handy.

Comfortable headset, poor quality sound
on October 4, 2018
Posted by: TechFan
from Ohio
Ive been using these headphones for the last couple of days and I haven't really been that impressed with them. The packaging and display when I opened the box was excellent. They looked like top tier headphones. I like the reflective material on the ear buds that are supposed to be good when running at night. The headphones are extremely comfortable to wear and are pretty flexible to fit around my neck.
I was surprised that there were no other size ear tips with these. I guess the idea is a one size fits all. Fortunately, these fit my ears fine, but not airtight but they are comfortable.
When I paired them with my iPhone XS Max, it was simple and quick, no problems. I downloaded the app and it prompted me to update the software. This is where my frustration began. The app said the download would take about 50 minutes. Fifty minutes?? Seriously?
I plugged them in and started the download. My phone screen is set to time out after two minutes which helps on my battery life, so about a half hour later, I checked on the download and it failed. I couldn't figure out why so I tried it again and when the screen timed out, the download failed again. I changed the settings on my phone so that the screen wouldn't time out at all. This time, the download went to about 76% and then it failed again. As of the time of this review, I have tried at least three times to download the update and have yet to complete it.
After the failed update, I decided to just use them while I ran a couple of miles on the treadmill. A lot of sound escapes and these are by no means noise cancelling. You will definitely hear a lot of surrounding noise, but given that these are made for sport, that may not be a big deal for some.
The quality of sound isn't really that great, almost a slight echo when listening to them. I also felt like the volume was kind of low, even at max level. I have earbuds from Bose, Jlab, Sony, JBL, Apple and Jaybird to name a few and these rank at the bottom of that list. I will admit that most of them have a higher price point than the BackBeats, but $100 isn't cheap for Bluetooth headphones.
Overall, if I were shopping for a set of earbuds/headphones at this price point, I would look elsewhere. While they are comfortable and seem durable, the overall sound quality, lack of different size ear tips and poor update process turned me off with these. At this price point, I would look elsewhere.

Among the best portable speakers I've used
on September 15, 2018
Posted by: TechFan
from Ohio
I've had this speaker for a couple of days now and i've been very impressed with its performance and build quality.
This speaker was extremely easy to setup, especially with the app and I was up and playing music in a manner of minutes. It came about 20% charged, but Im not sure how accurate that was given the fact I plugged it in after it prompted me to update the latest software and after the update, it was at 72%. The update took less than five minutes, so it couldn't have charged that fast, but I will keep an eye on it.
The bass is indeed incredible for a speaker of this size and it also does a good job of not drowning out the treble and didn't really have any distortion even at louder volume levels. I found the app to be extremely useful in pairing my devices, setting up custom equalizers and probably my favorite feature of setting up one touch playlists. This feature basically allows the speaker to immediately start playing your favorite playlists when the speaker is powered on an connected to your device. You can save up to four playlists and you can skip them using the app or by pressing the magic button on the top of the speaker.
There are really only three buttons that you will use once your device is paired. The volume up and down buttons on the front of the speaker and the magic button on the top. Im still learning the commands for skipping tracks, playlists, etc, but generally the magic button is easy to use.
I found the sound to be filling and powerful overall, especially for a smaller speaker. I set it on my kitchen counter and played several different songs and they all sounded excellent with this speaker.
Before I received this speaker, my favorite unit had quickly become the JBL PK5, another ultra portable bluetooth speaker, but now I'm torn between that one and this one. The clarity is better on the JBL, but the overall blend of strong bass and quality sound are better on the MegaBoom 3.
My wife and I buy houses to renovate and rent as a second source of income, so portable speakers are great for those days spent laboring over painting, drywalling, etc. My only issue now is to decide whether I will let her use the UE or the JBL. I think for my type of music and usage, the UE is the better speaker for me. She primarily listens to podcasts so the vocal clarity in the JBL will be better for her.
If I had to complain about one thing, it would be the charging cable and brick. Most people will use this while out and about, so a white charging brick and cable isn't ideal. I would have preferred black, but all other things being equal, this is a minor complaint. This is my first UE speaker and I definitely am a fan. I would certainly recommend this speaker.

The clarity in this little speaker is amazing
on September 10, 2018
Posted by: TechFan
from Ohio
I've had many brands of portable bluetooth speakers, from LifeProof, to Sony and while this speaker may not be the loudest of the bunch, but i haven't heard one with more clarity than the LG PK5.
I got this today, which was perfect because I had decided to clean out my garage. Instead of using one of my other speakers, i decided to plug this one up and give it a try. I plugged in to let it charge while I ran some errands. I was gone for a couple of hours and when I returned to get started, it still hadn't fully charged. This was disappointing, particularly since it only included a USB-C cable and not a charging brick for it. I changed out the brick i was using with a Samsung Fast Charger plug and it was ready to go in about another hour. I almost took off a star for this, but i normally keep my speakers plugged in while using them so it wasn't a big deal for me.
Pairing was fairly standard and I had no problems connecting to my iPhone X and my Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. If you download the Music Flow app to your Android device, you can control everything from the color of the lights, to the vocal, clarity and bass. Unfortunately, there is no compatible app for Apple devices, which is what I primarily use.
I listen to a wide variety of music. Everything from jazz and pop, to R&B and rap. I also like listening to audiobooks. I played a few tracks from each genre of music and was impressed with the overall sound. I played some Adele, David Sandborn, Beyonce and Jay-Z and all of them sounded great on this little speaker. The bass is solid and compliments the treble without drowning it out. I turned the volume level all of the way up and there was never any distortion, regardless of the bass settings. This really surprised me from such a small speaker.
As far as I know, none of the devices I connected the speaker to are aptX compatible, so i look forward to connecting my Google Pixel XL to see if the sound is even better.
This thing is ultra portable and is actually smaller than I thought it would be, but its definitely my go to speaker out of my collection. I don't know if the battery life is accurate as of yet, but I plan to see as I didn't get much work done on my garage because I played around with this for much longer than I thought.
The only complaint I have is there is no charging brick included with this. It would be a nice thing to have since it wasn't fully charged when I opened it and the instructions say it takes four hours to charge completely. Other than that, this thing is pretty flawless. Im very impressed.

Could and should be so much better
on September 10, 2018

I've had this for a little over a week now and so far, Im not impressed. In theory, the features are great. Square head for cleaning in corners, very good app integration and notifications, excellent laser guidance, several cleaning options and programmable No-Go lines.
However, I still haven't been able to get this thing to create a floor plan so that I can program the no-go lines and for some reason when it returns to base, it never quite connects all the way, so instead of charging, its actually not docked at all, so the next I go to use it i have to charge it first. This has happened on every occasion that I have used it.

After the third failed attempt to have a complete floor plan, i literally followed the vacuum with the included boundary marker to make sure that the vacuum only went in areas that I wanted it to. So after over an hour of playing a vacuum ninja, it appeared that the mapping was complete and it was headed back to base. Unfortunately, once again, it didn't seat itself into the charging dock, so the mapping was incomplete thus requiring me to start the process all over again.
I haven't had the patience to go through the programming again, so for now it sits in its dock, charging until im ready to put back on my black belt and play ninja again.
I gave this two stars because it picks up great, it gets into the nooks and crannies since it has a square face and the app is easy to use and works perfectly with the vac. If I could just get the floor mapping to complete, I would be a happy camper. However, until that day happens, I have to give this two stars.

New to Sonos, but I'm now a fan
on August 15, 2018
Posted by: TechFan
from Ohio
I've read about Sonos products for a while now, but never took the leap. When this became available, I jumped at the chance to get this set. Fantastic sound for outdoor speakers and very easy to setup with the exception of the remote.
As I said previously, setup couldnt have been easier. In fact, it took me longer to find the mounts I needed for my vinyl siding than it did for me to mount these speakers. In full disclosure, I havent completed my final setup yet because of time and the amount of rain lately, but I will be cutting a hole into my house to run the speaker wires to the amp. For the time being, I just bring the amp outside and sit it on a table and connect the wires to play.
The speakers and amp all came in one box, but were individually packaged. When I unboxed everything, I was impressed at how well they were packaged. Once I took everything out, I planned my installation and went to work. Fortunately for me, my deck is right off of my morning room and was able to snake the wires behind the vinyl siding and mount the speakers under the eaves. I bought some flat wire from Best Buy to do my install which made it a bit difficult routing the wires around corners, so i would recommend buying standard wire for an easier installation. The gauge of wire you need will be determined by how long the run is to your amp. I bought 16 gauge wire for my installation. I would also recommend buying a little bit longer length than you think you will need. Better to have more than you need than not enough.
Once I marked my installation locations and connected the speaker brackets to the vinyl siding mounts, I ran the speaker wire through the mount and bracket, per the instructions. Although the hole in the back of the speaker has a rubber fitting that is supposed to be waterproof, I put a little bit of silicone caulk around it for a little added protection for the speaker wire. Particularly since I angled my speakers downward, I felt better using the silicone to prevent any moisture getting in and possibly ruining the wire.
The speakers are a bit heavier than I thought they would be, so make sure you screw the brackets into a solid surface. I mounted mine using four deck screws into the siding, which had wood behind it. It was more than secure and I have no concerns about them falling.
Once everything was mounted, I hooked up the wires and went through the setup process, connecting the amp to my wifi and adding my streaming services. I liked that it supported the more popular streaming services like Pandora, iHeartRadio, Spotify and Apple Music. Once I began playing my music, I was instantly sold on Sonos. The sound was much better than I expected and had a decent low end. I've read reviews about the lack of bass, but I found them to be sufficient. I'm not planning on putting on a concert so I was fine with the amount of bass. You do have the option of adding a subwoofer as there is an input in the back for one. It also has audio inputs that will allow you to plug in your TV or another audio source. It would need to be analog though as there is no HDMI or optical input.
The only negative I have about the Sonos is the remote. I havent been able to pair it with my iPhone yet, but I will try it again once I finish running the speaker wire into the house. That's not really a deal breaker for me though.
All in all, this is a great outdoor system for my use. I would definitely recommend this.

Excellent resolution, only a couple of flaws
on August 7, 2018
Posted by: TechFan
from Ohio
This is a decent security system with some flaws and some things that I think should be changed or included with the kit. The most important thing I would tell you before you attempt to install this system, is to make a detailed plan of what you want to do and where you want it to go. I haven’t hardwired my system in yet because of a few reasons that I will mention later. I did however hook it up and test it in various conditions including daytime and at night.
The cameras themselves seem to be pretty cheaply made, but the resolution is much better than I thought they would be. I tested them both at night and during the day and the images came across very clear. I did have the system hooked up to my Sharp 4k TV also. The playback looked very grainy until I changed the settings to 4k resolution, reset the DVR box and played with the camera settings a bit and it was significantly better.
As I mentioned before, planning your installation is critical for several reasons. One, because the cables are only 65ft in length for each camera. For some installations, this may be more than sufficient, but for mine, it wont work, so I will have to shell out a minimum of $40 for either longer cables or extension cables to do the install. While 65ft may sound like a lot of cable, but by the time you snake it through walls and around studs, etc, that quickly runs out. The wall cable is also only about 2ft in length so if you are like me and have multiple items plugged into a surge protector, that is kind of short. See picture.
Secondly, the DVR needs to be near your router in order to record and display the cameras. My office which is where my router is located is towards the front of my house, which is roughly 50ft from the back deck where I planned to install one of the cameras. That leaves me 15 ft to play with, which changes the installation location that I had originally planned. Ideally, a wifi connection would be preferred, but there appears to only be a handful of systems that have that feature. I did see that Lorex offers some wireless cameras that are compatible with this system, but they are a bit pricey, especially when you factor in the $600 this thing already costs. Right now, im kind of in limbo as to how I want to set this up. I do have Orbi and Velop routers that I can plug the DVR into which gets me closer to a middle location in my home to run the wires for the exterior cameras, but I prefer to have the DVR out of a common area.
I do like that the cameras can be viewed remotely using the available app, but I haven’t had the time to setup this feature yet. When I initially setup the unit to test it, I got a chance to play around with the software and its pretty simple to use and you can also rename the cameras based on location or however you prefer to identify them. I definitely suggest using the 4k setting if you can, but the recordings will take up more space on the hard drive. You can take clips of videos and also have the option to backup your recordings with a thumb drive or possibly a portable hard drive which are great options if you need to use the videos to report any theft.
Other than the items I mentioned, this seems to be a pretty decent system with some good features and easy to use interface. I just have to decide if I want to splurge for the wireless cameras for the back side of my house or just buy the longer cables to run through the walls. I would look around for some other options, but all in all this is a respectable system.
Pros
- Camera images are crystal clear
- DVR is pretty quiet overall, just make sure you install in a well ventilated location
- Software is easy to use
Cons
- Price is a bit on the high side
- Short cables. 65ft cables may work for some installations, but 100ft would be better. Longer cables can run upwards of $40 each
- Wall plug is less than two feet in length.
- Would like it to have wireless connectivity so that I have more options for installation locations

Great addition to my system
on July 16, 2018
Posted by: TechFan
from Ohio
Ive used these over the past several days to listen to music and movies from various different formats including 4k DVD, net radio, satellite TV and several streaming sources and these are pretty awesome speakers for their size. They are a bit heavier than i thought they would be, but the output is amazing.
I have these paired with a Dolby Atmos compatible receiver and while playing a Dolby Atmos enabled DVD, i could instantly tell the difference. I spoke to a salesman at Best Buy about the benefit of Dolby Atmos and he was all too happy to demonstrate them to me in their speaker room. Based on what he told me, Dolby Atmos is supposed to put out 360 degree sound. When watching an action movie for example, when a helicopter flies overhead, you should actually hear the chopper overhead. I could actually feel and hear the difference with these speakers, just as the guy told me.
Now keep in mind, these are only bookshelf speakers so they arent going to provide the sound that a floor standing speaker will but Im replacing a pair of JBL speakers that are half the size of these and they are incredible. Im debating on whether to add another pair of these or make these my rear speakers and get a set of floor standing speakers.
If you can, i would go into Best Buy and have them explain the Dolby Atmos process. Im sure i oversimplified the benefits, but really, the sound is incredible from these little speakers.

Protect and boost the functionality of your 7th, 8th, and 9th Gen iPad with this graphite Logitech Combo Touch keyboard case. The precision trackpad allows for easy navigation, while the well-spaced backlit keys ensure effortless typing, even in dark environments. This Logitech Combo Touch keyboard case has a smooth texture for easy handling, and the adjustable kickstand provides comfortable viewing angles.

Does this need to be charged, or is it like the apple one which is just magnetic without a charger?

This case uses Apple's proprietary Smart Connector thus eliminating the need for another charger or cable. One of the best features of this case in my opinion.

Brighten your day and night with this Philips Being Hue ceiling light. The dimming function lets you set an ambience for different moods, and it works with the Philips Hue dimmer switch and mobile app for versatile control. The ZigBee technology of this 32W Philips Being Hue ceiling lamp provides smooth, efficient interoperability with multiple Hue lighting units.

how bright is this?

The brightness is adjustable. It can give off light equivalent to a standard 60 watt bulb (default) but with the app, you can make the light brighter. If I remember correctly, its about 2400 lumens. For example, a 60 watt bulb is about 750-850 lumens.

What are installation instructions & wiring requirements?

You will need to have a "C" wire in order to use this. If you do not have one, there are additional instructions on how to wire it and it includes the wire you can use to jump it in your thermostat. If you have minor DIY skills, you should have no problem with the installation.

When I call someone they cannot hear me on the other end how do I fix this

I had that problem too initially, but I took the phone out and re-installed the phone into the case paying careful attention to making sure that the volume/vibrate button was installed correctly in the slot. Once i did that, the mic must have lined up the way it was supposed to and I havent had any problems since. Hope that helps.
