Underrated and Misunderstood

It's a shame really, this is a great movie once you understand everything that's going on.
SPOILERS
First off, everyone gives this movie a lot of flack for being hard to understand, and they're not wrong. The movie assumes you know a lot about several pieces of Batman and Superman (and indeed the whole DC universe) lore.
The actual fight between Batman and Superman, pulls a lot from Frank Miller's Batman Returns when B and S go at it there. In that Graphic Novel, Batman uses power armor and kryptonite to weaken and defeat Superman. Also in that comic Superman takes a direct detonation of a Nuke which leaves him looking like a zombie until the sun regenerates him (Superman gets his powers from the radiation of earth's Sun); and actually, in the comic Superman pulls life from plants and the earth itself to heal himself, but you know, details.
Anyway, then there's Doomsday and the Death of Superman. This is a (very) quick pull from that event as well, though about all they really had to do with each other is Doomsday kills Superman. If you knew anything about it at all, you knew that was gonna happen.
Another complaint is the "dream sequence". Everyone complained it was jarring and didn't make any sense. So what's going on there is in Batman's dream (I tend to think of it as a vision) he sees a future in which Superman has taken over the world and rules with an iron fist, Batman is the leader of the resistance. Bruce then has an inception moment where he has a dream inside a dream about the Flash showing up "too early" and warning him that Lois was the key to everything and that Batman's fears about Superman were correct. This whole sequence was taken from the Injustice Series, where Superman takes over the world after the Joker kills Lois Lane (and their unborn child). In his rage and sorrow he simply takes over and make the world his own. It's a good series you should pick it up.
And then there's the "Martha" scene. It's just kind of cheesy. But if you're following the movie you'll understand what Snyder was going for, even if it is still kind of cheesy. So where Synder fails is not showing just how much Batman is affected mentally by the events of Man of Steel. One thing Batman does not do is kill, and one thing he cannot accept is the death of children or children being orphaned. In the beginning of the movie he saves an obviously orphaned child. He's lost friends and the fallout of Superman and Zod's battle have hit him hard. Several times it's mentioned in the movie that Batman "is angry". Alfred chides him from branding his targets. This is an older Batman, and Batman that is tired. He says it "I take down own another just pops up" comparing criminals to weeds. His illusions to what he is doing, even his justifications are gone. And after Superman, now he's angry. He starts killing people, not directly but indirectly, something Batman wouldn't stand for. He's focused all that at Superman, at his FEAR of Superman. Of what Superman could do if left unchecked. He gets so blinded by his fear and anger that he doesn't stop to consider Superman may not be his enemy after all. Superman tell Lois that he has to go talk Bruce into helping him, and only fights Batman after Batman forces him to. The whole "you're letting them kill Martha" thing snaps Batman out of his blindness. The realization that Superman is a man, with a mother and father, makes him realize that he was right on the cusp of flat out murder. And from that point on we see a different Batman. He's coming back to himself. He fights and he's not trying to kill. He could have opened fire on the entire floor of goons in the Batwing but doesn't. He disables where he can.
The rest of the movie is really well done. Lex is appropriately crazy (Jesse Eisenberg does a great crazy person, even if you don't like him as Lex), Affleck is a great Bats, Jeremy Irons as Alfred is a good fit as well. The cast is back from Man of Steel and they do well, though I didn't like how they handled Jimmy Olsen, but it's a small gripe.
Overall I really enjoyed this movie. The action was awesome, the Batmobile is awesome, the music is awesome and anytime we get to see Wonder Woman it is a treat in my book.
Pick up the Ultimate Edition for sure and for the price if you like Batman or Superman at all you really can't go wrong.

The Quintessential 90's comedy workplace flick

This movie is everything that is corporate america in the 90s. You had these companies that were essentially cube farms cashing in on the Y2K hysteria and essentially just sucking the life and soul out of the workers. Anyone who's ever worked in a corporate environment will understand this movie all too well. There's the nay-sayer, the slackers, the over the top inappropriate guy, the boss that thinks he's top dog just because he managed to get a little above you, the lady that drives you absolutely crazy with whatever it is she does and the dreaded lay offs.
At its core, this movie is about a guy taking back his life and just finding his way out of the yuppie culture; bucking the expectations that have been laid on him. It's a classic problem with the generation that came to mature in the 90s. We didn't have the same security or attitude that our parents had. We didn't have an interesting job that we enjoyed that we would retire from. We had bad technology, stress and fear. It would be nice to be Peter, to be able to just say forget it all, but most of us really need our jobs.
Still, it's a hilarious romp of everything you've ever wanted to do when you hate your job.

I picked this up to hook my Xbox One controller to my PC. Worked perfectly and was cheaper than the first party adapter for the controller. Plug it in, let windows install it, forget it. Can't ask for more.

It's predictable yet different

The box says I won't see the twist coming at the end. I saw it a mile off. That being said, it's a pretty good thriller monster flick. I mean it's not Alien but it's fun. Some things will make you scratch your head and go "huh, why would they do that" but the acting is good, the picture is great and the sound is spot on. It's just the story is not as imaginative as they'd like to believe. If you can get it on sale, go for it, otherwise, wait for netflix to have it.

The Real Driving Similator

Eh, that may be pushing it. With Project Cars 2 out, and Forza 7, racing fans have a LOT to be excited about this fall. So here we all, Gran Turismo Sport, the next entry in the franchise that legitimized a more sim racing feel for the masses. Mostly, everything you love about GT of past is here. There are your license challenges, Rally is back (Yay!) and an arcade mode as well. The meat of the game however is in online mode. The career itself has been transformed into more of an online let's all do this together kind of thing. You no longer purchase a MX5 and build up from there, instead you're thrown right into the GT cars. It's a mix up of the formula to be sure. Some people will not enjoy that, some will. I highly suggest checking out some professional reviews to get the full scoop first. For me, I love it and I'm giving it 5 stars. Looks great, feels great, and plays great. But them I'm a huge fan of racing games.

Must have for Firefly fans

There's not much to say about the beloved firefly series that hasn't already been said, or the swan-song movie, Serenity. I personally love it. Getting it in a 4K edit is a must for any firefly fan, even if you have the blue ray. I wish it was a steel book, but I'll take a slip cover any day. If you like sci-fi or good stories at all, you can't go wrong here.

RTS on Console

RTS has always been a territory of the PC... with a couple exceptions. Battle for Middle Earth 2 comes to mind. The first Halo Wars. XCOM, Supreme Commander.
It's just not a genre you think of when you think of the console.
But this works well. The controller layout is intuitive and you never feel like you can't get your teams organized. Some will not like it because it is kind of hard to wrap your head around an RTS on a console, but if you enjoy RTS games, and you enjoy Halo, then check it out, you may find that you like it. Try the demo on the xbox store, and if it fits your likes, grab the deluxe copy to get the season pass and the first game included. Great deal Best Buy.

Worth the upgrade if you have a 4K TV.
on March 1, 2017

I had an original PS4 and recently picked up a 4K TV while on sale. For reference, I also have an XBOX One S. I was excited about the One S because if you had a 4K TV you could watch 4K blue rays and play games in HDR if supported. The PS4 Pro however, did not play 4K Blue Rays.
The PS4 Pro does play games in HDR, like the One S, but also plays some games in 4K as well. So, as a pure gaming machine, this is a great machine.
The interface is no different than the PS4, so there's zero new to learn, and if a game supports it, a 4K patch will give you the option to render the game in 4K or often, in 1080P with a higher frame rate.
Either way you choose, the result is gaming at its best. If you're a gamer on the fence about PS4 Pro or Xbox One S and you have a 4K HDR Capable TV, get this, you won't regret it. If you don't care about 4K games but want 4K blue rays, the Xbox is your way to go. Either way it was worth the money in my opinion.

I use this on my Xbox One, and it works as intended. You can buy a 1 TB for $60, or this for less than $120 and get 4 TB. This is the better deal in the long term.
