A Guilty Pleasure

I purchased Hotel Transylvania 2 because I already own the first Hotel Transylvania from a few years ago and enjoyed that. When I saw the trailer for the sequel, I was not impressed at first. That first impression changed when I got the chance to see the whole movie after a blind purchase of the blu-ray. I may be burned at the stake (pun intended) for saying this, but I actually found this second movie more enjoyable than the first.
It basically shows the relationship grandparents have with their children and grandchildren and the craziness that comes with it. This movie is a treat for both kids and the child-at-heart.
I purchased the Best Buy exclusive version of this movie, that came in a box with the toy. The movie inside didn't have the outer cardboard slipcover, just the standard plastic case. Collectors usually find that information useful. The toy itself is really well-made. Looking at it from outside the box, I couldn't tell if it was squishy (like the character in the movie) or made of hard plastic. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was squishy, and dense.

Depressingly Good

In a nutshell, I would say this movie is not for everyone, because of the depressing topic. It's your typical teen drama involving a friendship between a boy and a girl with one of them having a terminal illness. It is surprisingly well-written, with smart humor, and excellent performances by the 3 main actors.
I purchased it on sale at $14.99, my typical price point for non-blockbuster films. If you can get it cheaper (during, say, Black Friday), even better.
The product packaging is very well done. The blu-ray case I purchased came with a very nice slipcover with a matte finish that's velvet-y to the touch.

Surprisingly Good Sci-Fi/Comedy Film

Highly recommended!
I was not able to see The Martian in theaters so this was practically a blind purchase. I saw it with an unbiased, fresh set of eyes because I try to avoid reading movie synopsis and stay away from spoilers before my first viewing - it's just a personal preference.
That being said, this movie did not disappoint at all. It was very well written and well-researched. Well, I guess the source material is because I later found out that it was based on a book. It holds the viewers' attention for the entire duration of the film. Each challenge that comes up makes you go "so how is he going to get himself out of this mess this time?" The cast were perfect for their roles.
The picture quality and audio quality were top-notch as can be expected from a media of this format. I purchased the normal 2D blu-ray version of the film, but it did come out in a 3D version as well.
Even at full retail price, this movie is worth the purchase. I got it on release week, which usually means movies released during that week are discounted by about 15-20%.

Picture quality is better than the 3D/2D combo

This is a review of the blu-ray disc and not how nice the movie is.
I originally had the 3D/2D combo pack when this movie first came out last 2012. Because I didn't have a 3D TV then, I used to just watch the 2D version that came in the combo pack, which looked so disappointing. The black colors were very washed out, to the point that they looked almost bluish gray. This is not an issue with the TV calibration settings because it is only in this movie that we noticed this observation.
This standalone 2D blu-ray disc doesn't have the washed out picture quality at all. Blacks are really black and the colors are vibrant. This 2D version was viewed on the same TV set that the previous 2D version from the 3D combo pack was viewed. There is definitely a huge, noticeable improvement in picture quality.

Perfect for apartments and small to medium homes

It does what it is designed to do perfectly, which is receive the cable signal from your internet service provider (ISP) and allow you to connect to the internet via a local area access (LAN) cable.
It is relatively inexpensive for its performance specifications. It gives you a maximum download speed of 343 Megabytes per second (Mbps) and a maximum upload speed of 131 Mbps. To put things in perspective, I am using RCN as my ISP and the maximum download speed they currently offer is 155 Mbps - this is less than half of the maximum this modem can handle, which means, even if you choose the most expensive internet package from this ISP, this modem still gives you a lot of room for future upgrades should your ISP offer faster speeds. Personally, 50 Mbps is more than enough for our needs. We can stream HD movies and play online gaming on my PS4 at home, at the same time, both of which have high demand for bandwidth. This cable modem handles this task easily. So the occasional checking of emails and shopping online and keeping in touch with friends on social networks aren't even worth a concern.
Having your own cable modem (as opposed to renting this equipment from your ISP) saves money in the long run. On my monthly bill, I used to pay $5 to rent my ISP's cable modem. In a year, that cost me $60. So in a little over a year, this modem has actually already paid for itself.
The ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem is a modem, not a wireless router. Do not expect to be able to connect to it wirelessly out of the box. For wireless connectivity, you will need a wireless router and connect it to this modem.
Set up is very simple: there are only 3 cables that you need to use and they only fit in their specific locations on the device... no need to worry about what cable goes where. Out of the box, attach the power cord (included) to the back of the device and the other end to a power outlet. Next, the LAN cable (included) goes into the back of the device and the other end to the LAN port of your computer. Lastly, the coaxial cable (should come from your ISP - it's a thick cable that comes out of the wall) goes into to the back of the device, the other end should be connected to your ISP's equipment behind your wall. After these physical connections have been made, call your ISP to activate the modem. They will just need the serial number (located on the modem's box or on a sticker on the modem itself). This is just to register your device with them so their network recognizes it and allows you to connect. All this takes about 10 minutes or less.
Overall, this modem is highly recommended.
