I've had a Neat scanner and loved it since the first model that came out.
Last December I bought a new MacBook Pro and found myself needed to upgrade much of my hardware and software. I bought the Neat Connect and absolutely detest it. It crashes all the time. Neat is aware of this issue and says they are working on a fix. I receive emails from Neat with updates but it still crashes. I'm frustrated as I should have returned the product to Best Buy but I thought surely they would fix their issues with Sierra OS with Macs. Now I'm out $299 plus tax. Also their new formats of the scans leave a lot to be desired. The old legacy version was much better. And, it worked great. Also, if you try to use a hub to connect, it won't work. It has to be a direct connection. So I bought a cable with a USB-C end and tried it...still crashes. I would NOT suggest using this device if you own a new Mac.

It's its own device…but the Alexa feature is shared…meaning if you save a song on the Echo..then you can obtain it as well

Yes…that's the advantage. Disadvantage is you need to hold down microphone button to talk to Alexa.
