Makes streaming easier

This unit consolidates your various streaming services into one easy to use interface. Especially now that many shows are moving from broadcast TV to streaming you can do a search for a show and it will tell you what services it is streaming on even if it isn't one you subscribe to. I have been able to look at which services I'm paying for and easily see which ones I'm actually using. One service I was paying for I only watched one show on and it was also available on another service I was also paying for that I use for multiple shows. I no longer have to jump from one service to another to find where a show is available. It is also 4K so picture quality is fantastic!

Nice Combo device

After using different air fryers and instant pots, having one device that will do that plus an in-between cooking method is beyond a plus. For the very first meal, I seared lambchops with baby carrots and it was absolutely amazing. Baked salmon was equally impressive and the instant pot functions work just as the standalone version would. I have only scratched the surface with this unit and look forward the ability to cook very different items, like meat and vegetables at the same time! The cooking capacity is ideal for larger meals.

I have always liked digital photo frames but unless I was willing to spend a ton had to contend with loading up an SD card and plugging it in. NO MORE! The Aura frame fits the bill for a great wireless device that I can now share pictures with easily. What's even better is that my whole family can add pictures on the fly so new photos can be on the frame even before we get home! Setup was easy, just download the app and follow the instructions. adding photos is as simple as clicking on them from your photo album on your phone. Some of these may be gifts in the near future!!

This is my third air fryer and I have to say that I am quite impressed. After trying both the basket air fryers and one that has the pull out shelves, I definitely prefer the ones with a basket. First, I love the aesthetics of this unit. Because it does not have buttons that protrude, it is easy to wife clean. It would fit well in just about any kitchen. Once I plugged it in, the only thing that lit up was the power button. These are soft touch controls so a slight touch of the power "button" and the unit come to life. This is the largest capacity air fryer I have had and at 9 quarts it can handle a lot. But when you don't have a lot it works for that too since it is multi-zoned! Yes, you can cook two different items at two different temps at the same time. There is a removable divider that will allow you to split the cooing or if removed have one big cooking environment. If you split the cooking, you could air fry on one side and roast on the other. Other options are bake, broil, reheat and dehydrate. It is recommended that if you are splitting that you have things that are relatively close in cooking temp. Don't have something that is 300 on one side and 450 on the other. So far I have cooked French fries, chicken and fish and all came out great. I do have to adjust cooking times from my previous air fryers as this one seems to cook a tad bit more rapidly. The only knock i have on the unit is that sometime the touch controls are picky, meaning you need to touch it squarely for it to register. Other than that I would recommend this unit to anyone who likes the convenience of an air fryer.

Good wireless system
on July 22, 2021
Posted by: LSNerd
from Lees Summit, MO
Let me begin by saying that I have a wired Lorex system that has 8 4K cameras and have been using it for the past two years. I understand that there will be a difference between wired and wireless so I had already reset my expectations. As for the Home center, I love the concept of being able to see my cameras on a dedicated screen rather than just my phone or computer. This system has a lot of very nice features in it that make it simple to setup and use. Once you have everything out of the box, follow the simple on-screen instruction and you should be connected and seeing images in the cameras in a matter of a few minutes (once you have charged the camera batteries). The touchscreen is very intuitive for anyone who has used a tablet or smartphone. It has its own built in voice control so you can issue a number of requests without touching the unit. It can also connect to your home network wired or wirelessly. It you want to connect the unit wirelessly your wifi network must support both 2.4 and 5Ghz bandwidth. The cameras are 2K and do provide a nice clear picture. Setting up viewing access on the Lorex app is also pretty simple. I use the same app for both the Home Center and my wired cams. Overall a pretty good system. Now there were a few quirks that I had to adjust for. First, the unit would beep every time a camera detected motion. I'm sure there are cases where this would be helpful but for me it was downright annoying. Luckily you can turn this off in the options. My setup came with a range extender and although I don't have to use it I did connect it to see if there was any difference. None that I could tell other than it does beep when one of the cameras connected to it detects motion. Again, you can turn the volume to zero in settings. One of the bigger items I was not use to is that the cameras are not persistent like my wired cameras are. It makes sense to conserve battery life but it does mean that when you access your camera there is a slight delay before you get the image. Other than that, I have had the system up and running for the past week and it has done well. After a week of me playing with the system, the cameras batteries are down only 15%. This includes me turning the lights on on the cameras, trying the siren (yes each camera has a siren) and taking pictures. Since the cameras are close to outlets I may see if having them plugged in is an option.

Works well!

As for most of us air quality in our homes is important, now more than ever. Although I have a UV light on my HVAC it has a different purpose that the air purifier. First, this unit stands just under three feet tall and is about a foot and a half wide. Amazingly though even with it in plain sight most people do not notice it. Unpacking and setup is pretty straight forward. Once out of the box make sure to remove the filter housing and take the plastic off the HEPA filter then put it back in and plug in the unit. There is a remote control but I started with the control panel on the top. The control panel is a smooth touch panel that is easy to read. Once the unit is on, there really isn't much you need to do. I put the unit in auto mode and left it alone. I was expecting it to do something but it just quietly ran at low speed with the display showing the air quality at 100%. Not only is there a display on the top but also on the front of the unit. For convenience, the displays can be dimmed or even turned off. With the unit on I walked away and waited for it to do something. Two days later and it was still saying the air quality was at 100%. The next day, Saturday, I decided to make breakfast which included bacon. There is always some smoke with bacon and as I was cooking I heard the unit kick up a notch. It was not loud at all but could tell it was running at a higher rate. I look at the unit and the air quality was down to 67% and the unit was doing it's thing. Shortly after I was done cooking, the unit had the air quality back to 100%, there was no "smoke" in the house and the air didn't have a smell in the rest of the house! Once the air was clean the unit turned itself back down. Overall, this did exactly what it should have. Surprisingly the unit is not a "connected" unit. I would think this would/should integrate with smart home systems but it does not. At a minimum have an "app" so I can see what it is doing. The only issue I have had is that my wife's cat jumped on top of the unit and using the touchpad, turned the unit off one day. Other than that, I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes to make sure that odors, dust and pollen are kept to a minimum in your home.

Just WOW!

I have been using another HD (1080p) camera for the past several years and have been pretty happy with it. Now that I do a lot of calls from home I decided to upgrade to a 4k camera. Now there is good an bad with doing this. First the good, setting up the JVU430 was extremely simple; literally just plug it into the USB port. By the time I sat back down the install was complete so it took less than about 10 seconds. I started the camera app on my Windows 10 machine and was presented with a picture that had amazing quality and was extremely smooth. I test the sound quality and the stereo microphones have produce a rich quality sound for the folks on the other end. Other neat little features include a clip on stand that looks like it would work on just about any monitor. It also has a privacy cover that is easy to flip down. As for the not great things, the "green" light that shows the camera is active, isn't much different than the white light that shows the camera has power. The other thing is the field of view is much greater than my previous camera so now I have a larger area to keep organized when I'm on video calls. Not really a problem with the camera but something to be aware of. Overall it is a great camera.

Didn't know what I was missing
on April 29, 2021

from Lees Summit, MO
As a user of the 1st gen Surface tablets I had an idea how the new Surface laptop might be. I was very wrong! First I was very impressed with the size. Initially I thought that the 13.5" screen would be too small moving from a laptop that was 15". The screen resolution is great and I really haven't noticed the screen size difference. It is incredibly thin! It is almost half the size of my old laptop. As for performance, it is head and shoulders above my current laptop. Bootup literally takes a few seconds and program execution has been flawless. I have been able to load up or transfer all my programs without any issues. There are a few general things to be aware of because they could be a deal breaker for some. First, you have limited USB ports; one traditional and one "C". If you want to have dual monitors you will need to look into getting the Surface dock. Puzzling thing is there is a headphone jack. I would think most would just connect with Bluetooth. Unlike my Surface tablet, there is no micro SD slot which came in really handy for transferring really large files. Other than than the new Surface has been an absolute gem.

The Roomba 600 series robot vacuum is a great way to begin cleaning your home smarter. It learns your cleaning habits and then offers up custom cleaning schedules—taking on daily dirt, dust, and debris from carpets and hard floors. It even has an edge-sweeping brush to get into corners and along edges. Google Assistant and Alexa compatibility let you start a cleaning session with just your voice, or simply use the iRobot Home App. When your area’s pollen count is high or during pet shedding season, the Roomba 600 series robot vacuum can even suggest extra cleanings —to help keep your floors clean every day of the year. *(Alexa and all related logos are trademarks of Amazon.com or its affiliates. Cleaned reasonably

from Lees Summit, MO
This is my second robot vacuum and since the other is over three years old I had high expectations on how the systems had progressed in that time. Unfortunately, some things apparently do not change. First let me cover the good. Wireless connectivity is a huge plus for me especially since it integrate with Google Home and Alexa. The Roomba app is pretty nice allowing you to create a schedule when it should run, a status of what the unit is doing and even messages if it needs to be attended to. As for the operation of the unit, I have one warning, if you have/are OCD DO NOT watch this thing operate! It will follow the most random and illogical patterns to the point that I was getting confused why it did certain things. This could be it learning its boundaries and after time it will do things differently. Right now, it may clean one area multiple time and completely miss others. Again, this could be part of its learning process. As for the actual cleaning it does a pretty good job picking up almost everything in its path. This included a napkin that was under a table that did get jammed but it sent me a notification that the pickup brush needed to be cleaned. Interestingly, it has only one edge brush so it will only clean along baseboards in one direction. This is a curious design since my 3 year old model has two. Overall it is a decent robotic vacuum but with any purchase of this nature, create your list of wants and needs.

Great sound on the patio
on March 5, 2021
Posted by: LSNerd
from Lees Summit, MO
When the weather is nice, being on the patio or deck is more normal than being inside. With that we like to have music. I am not a snob when it comes to sound but want something that has a good range and doesn't sound like you're listening to it through a tin can. The Sonance Magrocks deliver! They produce very crisp and clear sound with nice upper range and good low range. It is important to note that you will hear the lows but unlike indoor speakers you probably won't feel them like you would in a home theater setup. The caveat to that is that if you do turn it up you will but neighbors may not be happy. Once you get speaker wires run, depending on how far you're running the wires I would recommend 16/4 or 14/4 since both channels will connect to the sub and the left and right channel speakers connect to the sub and are prewired. The only complaint, which is minor, is that the cables wired into the left and right speakers is only about 6 feet. I have mine sitting in the landscaping at the middle my patio and remarkably, no matter where I am on the patio, it still sounds great. The patio is 40 feet across and the sound is excellent even at the end to the patio. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with these speakers.

Well worth the investment!
April 15, 2011
I recently upgraded my desktop for my business to a 6 core AMD Phenom II processor and figured my 4 GB of memory would be enough. Although performance is amazing it just didn't seem to be where I thought it should be so I swapped out the four 1GB sticks for four 2GB sticks. Of all that's holy this things screams now! I have yet to come close to maxing out memory or CPU utilization even while burning a DVD, streaming video from the net and working on a presentation; 8% for CPU and 19% for memory.

Ditch the cable company's modem
By LSNerd from Lees Summit, MO
After finally getting frustrated with the modem provided by the cable company I decided to get my own. Of course they asked why since I wasn't paying to lease the one I had. Well their own speed tests confirmed I had throughput of about 9Mbps on a good day when I'm paying for 20Mbps service. I swapped out the old modem with the Motorola, called them with the MAC ID and was up and running in a matter of minutes. Of course the first thing was to perform a speed test, the same one that I used before the swap. 20.6Mbps! Not only is my internet connection substantially faster but the built in WiFi has a better reach than my previous router AND the home network runs faster since I've eliminated a piece of equipment; stand alone router. My home network is used quite extensively too; 3 cell phones, 2 ipads, two laptops, 1 desktop, 2 home servers, 2 gaming consoles, 4 Blu-ray players, 1 stereo and a security system. This router/modem hasn't missed a beat yet!
9 month update
February 10, 2014
In all fairness I feel it is necessary to post an update to my previous post. First, 90 days after I installed it the WiFi would drop and not reconnect until i rebooted the modem. This normally would be that big of a deal except my home automation and alarm system run off the WiFi connection. When WiFi is lost for an extended period the security system will alert me with a continuous beeping until I deactivate it; even at 3 in the morning! Took it back and exchanged it for another thinking I may have just gotten a bad apple. Unfortunately that was not the case. Four months later the newer one started doing the same thing. There were times even rebooting would not solve the problem. As nice as it would have been to have one device that did the job of three, this was not it! Even the wired connections were beginning to run slow. I had upgraded my Time Warner to the 100Mbp package and was getting about 25 in most cases. Back to the store (yes I got the extended warranty) and I decided to go back to two devices. I went with the SB6141 which is basically the same device without wireless and routing. Plugged my Dlink DIR-655 wireless router into the 6141 and haven't looked back. The concept of an all in one device is great but the execution was well below expectation. One other thing, the interface used to configure the modem is basic at best. Most features are either on or off and some you just can't configure. Overall I would not recommend this product after using it for just under a year.

Keep your files in one place with this 2.5-inch Samsung 2TB internal solid-state drive. Boasting read speeds of up to 550MB/sec., this solid-state drive improves system performance by reducing startup and file loading times. This Samsung internal solid-state drive accommodates large numbers of files and programs with its 2TB capacity.

Can I transfer my OS (Windows 10) to this SSD from my Toshiba 2TB HDD ? I've read some bad reviews about this SSD having a problem "Cloning or Migrating" Windows 10 using the Samsung wizard....

I did the migration without incident or errors. It copied the MBR and all the partitions from the old drive to the new one. Total time was about two hours but I was also walking away and letting it do its thing so it may have been much less.

Use the Google Smart Light Starter Kit to control the lights using just your voice. Set up in a snap: just plug in Google Home Mini, screw in the GE C-Life smart light bulb, and download the Google Home app to get started. Then just say "Hey Google" to dim, brighten, turn on and turn off the lights."

Can I use this to turn off my lights while I am away from home? Also, do I get the starter kit and then multiple bulbs or do I need to get a box thing for each room? Thanks so much

If I understand your question accurately, you are asking if you can remotely control the bulbs from outside your home and the answer is yes. Using the Google home app you can control all devices that have been configured through the app. I also have a hub to integrate my various smart home devices that work on different protocols. If you want to be able to voice control your devices you will need to have a puck in each location. As an example, in my master bedroom I have one that I can tell to turn on lights in other rooms. I have a couple pucks throughout the house so that I don't have to scream across rooms to do something.

Prepare food with hot air instead of oil by using this Ninja air fryer. It offers a temperature range from 105-400 degrees F to let you create dehydrated snacks or air-cook dishes with 75 percent less fat than traditional frying. Make up to 2 lbs. of food with convection heat in this Ninja air fryer.

What is the purpose of an air fryer and is it healthy?

The main purpose for me was to be able to cook without the need for grease or oil. An additional benefit is that I don't have to heat up the oven to get baked foods. In addition, the way it is setup, any grease from meat falls away as it cooks. Some may argue about the health benefits but I would contend that eliminating unhealthy fats will always be a plus.

Ask Alexa to turn on the lights and music with this ecobee Switch+ smart switch. Its built-in speaker lets you access Amazon Alexa with voice commands, and it automatically turns off a light bulb at sunrise or when no one’s in the room. Control this ecobee Switch+ smart switch remotely from your iOS or Android device.

Do you need to have certain ights in your home for this switch to be compatible? For example, Phillips Hue LED lights or will it work with a regular floodlight or GE incandescent bulb? Lastly- How many lights can one switch control?

The switch is rated for up to 600w of incandescent bulbs and 150w of LED or CFL bulbs. I don't use the Philips Hue bulbs but can't see any reason they would not work since they are LED's. How many you can have on one switch is dependent on the wattage of the bulbs used. 6 100w bulbs, 12 50w and so on but that is just a gauge. When it comes to electricity and the unknown, seeking the advice of an electrician can be worth the time.

Will this play MP4 formatted video files? Either from internal storage or preferably from a USB connected Passport drive?

The box is pretty versatile. It supports all of the following:
ASF, AVI, MOV, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, VC-1, VP8, VP9, WEBM, WMV9, XviD, DivX, H.263, H.264, H.265, HEVC, M-JPEG, M2TS, MKV
I have not connected an external drive to play a video but given the supported formats I would be shocked if it wouldn't play them.

What is the upload and download speed for this box. What does it top out at.

Let me preface with, there are a number of factors that contribute to the actual upload/download speed. With that said, the Ethernet connection on the box is a Gigabit port and if you are going wireless it supports 802.11AC and 802.3z. Long story short, if it is downloading slowly there is probably a problem somewhere else. I have a gigabit fiber connection coming into my home with the house wired for gigabit throughout. I have had zero problems performing downloads related to the box or network. Some of the external sites however were a different story.

Video editing doesn't have to be daunting or take tons of time. Go from hundreds of mystery folders to a visual view of your videos automatically sorted by date. Use automated editing options and step-by-step guidance to create and share everything from animated GIFs and video collages to new dynamic slideshows and full-length movies.

What type of video files will this work with? Do I need some other software to download the video from the video camera?

I pulled in files from my video camera without issue. Unless your camera uses a unique format, I would suspect the software would not have a problem.
