Nothing to Wine about, its Fantanstic!

If your favorite wine uses a natural cork and you want to enjoy a nice glass of wine without having to worry about opening the entire bottle this is what you need. During the week I often like to have a glass of wine with my dinner but due to schedules and timing its not a consistent occurrence. Using the Coravin I no longer have to worry about opening a bottle or having wine spoil because I didn’t get to finish the bottle in time. The Coravin wine preservation system lets you easily extract wine from the bottle without having to remove the cork. The system uses a small needle to puncture the cork and an Argon gas cartridge helps force the wine through the needle. To pour a glass of wine you slide the assembly over the top of the bottle, press down which drives the needle through the cork, tilt the bottle holding both the bottle and the assembly and then push the Argon gas lever to start your pour. Because the needle is small it does take a little extra time but its not a show stopper. When your pour is complete you pull the assembly upward and it comes out cleanly while the cork reseals itself. The system is well made and solid however due to the way you need to hold the wine bottle and assembly when pouring a glass it can be a little cumbersome until you get used to it. Overall I am very please with the system, its easy to use and performs perfectly every time. The Model 6 comes with three argon cartridges, a really nice storage case to hold the Coravin, and two screw on caps.
Things to consider. Since only natural cork will reseal I recommend cutting the foil to verify the cork prior to using the system. The needle will puncture a synthetic cork and everything will work normally however the synthetic cork will not reseal when the Coravin is removed thus the wine will leak. The Argon cartridges are not cheap. I average about 15 glasses or about 3 bottles worth of pours per cartridge so it does increase your overall wine cost. Lastly, because the needle does puncture the cork there is a risk of knocking some cork into the wine. This is not an issue if you use the Coravin until the bottle is empty because the needle is so thin. However if you decide to uncork a bottle that had been previously punctured by the Coravin you may find small pieces of cork in the wine. I don’t see this often because it also depends on the age and quality of the cork but can be a slight nuisance.

A Cut Above

If you are looking for a nose/ear trimmer get this one because its as good as the competition and the eyebrow attachment actually works! I have used several trimmers over the years but this the first one that had attachments that actually worked and were easy to use. The trimmer body is styled and works like most of the typical nose/ear hair trimmers except that the top detaches and you can put on a different cutting attachment for trimming eye brows. I have always tried to do this with a scissors and comb and was a little nervous when I tried the eyebrow attachment for the first time. I first tried the long comb attachment and once I got the hang of it I opted for the shorter comb which did a nice uniform trim. The trimmer itself seems to be well built, its easy to clean and for nose and ear hairs it does as good as others I have bought in this price range.

Mobile but Limited Usability
on January 27, 2020
Posted by: explore42

The HP Sprocket Studio Bundle is a nice self contained mobile photo printing solution however it has limited connectivity that may affect its usability. I would recommend this printer only for someone who needs a self powered mobile printer. For everyone else there are other mobile photo printers that offer more features that you may want to consider.
The printer produces good quality photos in a reasonably short time. The photos had good saturation, hue and contrast but at times seem to be slightly less sharp than I would have expected. To operate the printer you need to install the HP Sprocket software on your device. The Sprocket software is used to control the printer via Bluetooth as well as manipulate the image quality of the photo. The Bluetooth set up is simple and reliable. The Sprocket software allows you to select images from your local device’s photo gallery or from Instagram, Facebook or Google if you have those accounts on your phone. Once you select the image the software gives you several options on improving the image quality as well as possible templates to embellish the photo. You can create everything from photo cards to collages to photo id cards. Many of these same features are included in most phones today but its nice to have it as an option in the printer software. The bundle includes a battery pack that will allow you to print 80 photos before needing to be recharged. There are led indicators on the side of the battery pack that indicate charging and stored capacity. The battery pack makes this solution truly mobile and allows you to print anywhere. The paper tray holds 20 pages although the bundle only includes 10 prints to start with so be prepared to buy more paper and cartridges. The carrying case that is included is a simple fabric bag with no extra protection for the printer. Its fine for storing the printer but I would recommend getting something more substantial if you plan on hauling the printer any distance.
Cons: This printer only allows connectivity via Bluetooth thus you cannot connect via wifi or usb or memory card. This is really a problem if you want to print a photo taken from a camera or a photo stored locally on a computer or a usb drive. The photo quality was good except several of my photos came out with a single line with lighter coloration near the edge of the photo. I am not sure if it is caused by the paper transport mechanism or the cartridge system. As the photo is printed the paper feeds in and out of the front and rear of the printer. The front has a support tray however the rear of the printer does not thus the print hangs out of the rear of the printer only supported by the photo’s edge inside of the printer.

If you like wireless neckband based earbuds the LG Tone Flex HBS-XL7 is one to consider. They have long battery life, good sound quality and easy phone and Google Assistant functionality. They lack noise cancellation and aren’t water/sweat proof so that may be an issue for some.
Fit: The neckband is smooth, lightweight and very comfortable. The ear buds pull out from the neckband at each end and stay locked out at the extended length. To retract the buds you give a gentle tug and they return to the neckband housing. The wire from the neckband to the earbud is very thin and barely noticeable. The ear buds are straight buds and not contoured or angled so although they fit comfortably I was more aware of them in my ear than when using my true wireless buds which are offset to fit the ear more naturally. These earbuds are not noise cancelling nor do they totally block out exterior sounds which is good and bad depending on your use. While the neckband is made of flexible material I still found it somewhat difficult to fit into my pocket when not in use.
Connectivity: These earbuds pair faster than any other blue tooth headset or earbuds I have. Whether it was my pc or ipad or my phone these earbuds paired super fast. There is a LED light on the side that gives you some indication of pairing along with an audio message so pairing is a simple once and done. As for distance these earbuds acted slightly different than others that I have owned. They reach about the same distance as my other blue tooth headsets but they don’t drop out nearly as much when reaching their limit. When you reach the limit rather than producing choppy sound quality the earbuds just announce that you are out of range and everything goes quiet.

Operation: When you power up or power down the LG Tone Flex the neckband vibrates to give you positive feedback. It also uses the vibration to let you know that you have an incoming call. There is an audio prompt on power up that tells you the battery level and pairing status which I found very helpful. The left side of the neckband has the power switch along with a multi-function switch. On the right side of the neckband there is a Google Assistant button that once configured worked great. All the buttons were easy to locate and operate without a problem. There is a USB-C charging port on the side of the neckband for recharging the battery. Because the battery life is around 10 hours and it has quick charging capabilities I can head out the door with them and never have to worry.
Experience: The sound quality out of the box had good clarity but seemed a little flat to me. With the help of some tweaking with an equalizer I was able to get them to provide the sound quality I like. This version of the Tone Flex has a 32bit DAC and Meridian Audio which is supposed to improve the audio quality however I found the quality was only marginally better than other earbuds I have. Using the earbuds to make and take calls turned out to have mixed results. Generally everyone said I sounded great but depending on the shirt I was wearing and how the neckband sat on me some people said I sounded farther away or slightly muffled. When that happened I would rearrange the neckband with its two microphones and everything was back to being clear.

Projects Everything Anywhere

This Epson EF-100 projector is portable powerhouse. It is extremely flexible and can project brilliant images on nearly anything you have available. Because it has a built in Android TV Streaming stick along with a small but ample speaker it really is a portable one-piece show.
SET UP: Setting up the projector was extremely simple. Packed with the projector is the Android TV streaming stick and two remote controls. One remote controls just the projector and the second one controls both the projector and the streaming stick. The Android TV streaming stick is the equivalent in size to an Amazon Fire stick yet slightly shorter than a Roku Streaming Stick +. To install the Android TV streaming stick you remove the rear panel to get access to a bay which holds the streaming stick and has a hdmi input cable and a micro usb power cord. You can swap out the streaming stick with a Fire Stick if you like but because Roku uses a mini usb power connector it would need an extra USB mini to USB micro adapter cable. I personally liked the included Android TV streaming stick even though I have Roku and Amazon sticks elsewhere in the house. The unit has its vents on the same side as the power plug so you can place the projector on its side or its back or in the standard mounting position. Being able to place it on its back allows you to watch movies or play games on the ceiling which was a big hit in my house. The set up is menu driven and easy to follow. Connecting the projector to my 5ghz wireless band was straight forward and I was able to pair it with my blue tooth enabled sound bar, head phones and ear buds without any issues. I was able to go from unboxing to playing YouTube videos on my wall in less than 10 minutes.
FEATURES and CAPABILITIES: The biggest huddle for a projector is producing light and color in a room with a fair amount of ambient light. This projector did a good job in various lighting conditions including a room with a wall full of windows during the daylight hours. The projector provides 2000 lumens using a laser light source and because it uses 3 chip LCD technology the colors were rich and well pronounced even in the brighter conditions. There are 4 preconfigured display settings going from brightest to softest you have Dynamic, Bright Cinema, Natural and Cinema. I found that using the Dynamic and Bright Cinema to be too bright for low light viewing but quite nice for the brighter rooms. The Natural and Cinema modes are much more subdued and deliver quality images in a lower lit area. The resolution is WXGA (1280 by 800) on a native aspect ratio of 16 x10. The projector does have options for aspect ratios of Auto, 16x9, Full and Zoom. The Full and Zoom can be useful in eliminating the black bars around the content or filling in the entire light field if that’s an issue. Even though the projector does 1280x800 I found that the overall image was still quite acceptable even if the input was FHD or 4K. The projector has automatic vertical keystone correction but also includes both horizontal and vertical manual adjustments as well. The focus is a manual slide switch that allows you to get crisp imaging with minute movements. The throw ratio of the projector is 1.04 in wide mode to 1.4 in Tele mode. You can adjust this to help format your image to the light field and/or to your projector screen. I use a 100 inch projector screen and tweak the setting to fully fill the screen without any light spilling over the edges. Epson included lots of options to tweak from white balancing to saturation and contrast levels. The best part is that you can save multiple configurations so that you don’t have to remember each setting for each type of content or room/projection surface. The speaker that is included sounds much larger and better than you would expect. There are four sound modes; standard, vocal, music and movie. I felt that for playing games or watching impromptu movies on the ceiling the speaker did a nice job. For a serious move however I used the blue tooth to play the audio through my soundbar.
WHATS NOT PERFECT: There aren’t many issues with the projector. The projector leg to raise the front of the projector is not the typical one I have seen on Epson projectors. It does the job but it feels cheap and not very reliable. While WXGA was the primary resolution for laptops and computers in the past most higher end devices today display FHD or 4K natively.
BOTTOM LINE: This projector does a very nice job of projecting bright and colorful images in every scenario I have tried. The ability to use the Android TV streaming stick along with the enclosed speaker make this a perfect companion to share content or gaming on nearly any surface without having to lug a ton of equipment.

Overall Nice Gaming Platform
on December 12, 2019

I think Dell did a good job with this laptop, it provides decent gaming specs while still keeping it reasonably portable and affordable. This laptop is deceiving, it’s made of plastic but feels as solid as most metal cased laptops. It looks sleek and the overall design definitely distinguishes itself as more than an ordinary laptop. On the downside its slightly heavy for a 15” laptop. While the i5 processor matched with the 512 gb SSD make this a responsive laptop it’s the GeForce GTX 1660 video card and added software that make it a gamer. Besides the video card Dell also includes the Alien Control software that allows you to monitor the hardware as well as do some fine tuning of the hardware to improve your gaming experience. You don’t get total control of the hardware but you can select from 4 pre-configured thermal profiles that will manipulate the CPU, GPU, Thermal Comfort and Acoustic Comfort levels to give you the desired outcome. You can also build gaming profiles and store these for specific games. I found that even without doing much tweaking this laptop was plenty powerful enough to handle all the games I tried at full HD without any noticeable stutter or issue. Dell also includes the G key (F7) which when pressed really increases the performance of the laptop. I found the trick to this key is to know where you will need it within your game because you are going to want to press it before you need it.
The display does full HD 1080 resolution but it is not a touch screen. Overall the display was responsive and had good visual clarity and color. The speakers are located under the laptop and have sound ports that can be very problematic at times – see below. The power jack, USB ports, Ethernet port, HDMI, SD and headphone jacks are all located on the sides. There are 2 USB 2.0, one USB 3.0 and one USB-C port. The keyboard is lit up in blue light which is quite cool and much easier on the eyes when playing games with the lights off. I found the keys to be quite responsive and the large touch pad was easy to navigate with. The 3d audio equalizer that comes with this laptop is really nice especially with a good set of headphones. The power brick is on the large size and the power cable to the laptop is the thickest I have seen in a while. Dell claims the laptop will charge quickly thus the hefty supply and cable.

A couple of things to note about this laptop. I found this laptop to be a good compromise between my more powerful desktop and my lightweight laptop. I use headphones when I use this laptop because if anything either blocks or sits near the sound ports under the laptop the audio quality degrades rapidly. You can set the laptop on a table and the sound quality is pretty good however if your notebook or even your pen get near the sound ports it can cause the sound to become muffled and distorted. Bottom line is that if you want good sound quality you need to make sure the laptop is on a solid surface and the sound ports are clear. Luckily there is an audio headphone jack on the side and I had no issues pairing my blue tooth headphones or ear buds. Another item of note is that the bottom of the laptop can fry my legs at times even though there are two fans to help dissipate heat. The heat generation is definitely tied to how hard you run the laptop but if you are buying this to run all out while gaming expect some serious heat on the bottom and out the back. Also when you kick in the G key for higher performance the fan noise can be quite loud and annoying, another reason to use headphones if you are going to be doing any serious gaming.
For a mid-tier laptop I think the G3 delivers solid gaming performance. The Alien Control Center and the overall look and feel of the laptop and keyboard help it stand out from the competition.

Lightweight and Fast
on November 17, 2019

If you have never owned a Chromebook and are thinking about buying this one you might want to read this review. I will try to cover the things that I’ve learned. As far as hardware this Pixelbook Go is nearly perfect. It has to be one of the lightest and thinnest laptops I have ever owned and it’s the ultimate in portability. It has a solid medal case and the bottom has ripples that make it super easy to grip. Even though its light its very fast due to the solid state hard drive and processor. I wouldn’t attempt any serious video processing but for the average home or student it should be fine. The display is full 1080 and its sharp and bright and the touch screen is very responsive. The keyboard is lighted which is a plus but the keys are dead flat so it’s tough to find the home keys by feel. There are three total ports, two are USB-C style ports and the other is a headphone jack. The USB-C is used to charge the laptop and it has a fast charge feature. The supplied power cube is larger than most and may present an issue because it plugs directly into the outlet vs being a corded power brick. The battery life on this Chromebook is listed as 12 hours and I have gotten close to that number. There are two front firing speakers alongside the keyboard that produce sound way beyond what you would expect from a laptop! The built in wireless is fast and my throughput on my wireless is what I would expect. The Bluetooth quickly found my mouse and ear buds without issue.
Using Chrome OS was a bit of a transition from Windows. Everything is browser based versus menu based so you need to learn the correct urls to get the information that you want. For example if you want to get the system information you need to open Chrome and type chrome://system. And then you either read through the webpage or use the search feature to find whatever you want to see. There are some simple things that are still menu based like the display settings, volume, wireless setting and a few others. To access the programs you select a Circle in the left hand corner and it brings up your apps. Everything seems to be there its just a totally different way of accessing it from a Windows system or even from an Android phone. A major plus for this Pixelbook is the inclusion of Google docs which I was very happy to see could handle any Word or Excel file I tried to open. After a quick search I learned how to use Chrome to access the files on my home network. Natively Chrome is set up to get files from the cloud and not your local network. The good news is that there is a lot of information on the web on how to use Chrome OS. Google also included a photo viewer that is super fast in loading and includes enough features to make it worthwhile. Because Chrome OS is app based there are tons of applications that are available. I downloaded the Spotify app and was able to really enjoy my playlist using the speakers on this Pixelbook. Overall its kind of an adventure transitioning from Windows to Chrome OS but this Pixelbook has made it fun and worthwhile. The typical user who uses this Pixelbook for playing media and using the typical apps or games will have no problem adjusting to Chrome OS.
As I said this Pixelbook is close to being perfect. There are a few things that I wish they would improve. I am not a fan of the keyboard as I stated above but its not a show stopper. I was worried about the small amount of physical hard drive space included in the system. The push is for everyone to use the cloud but because this Pixelbook is so perfect for travel getting access to the cloud could be an issue. To avoid this issue I purchased a 500 gig external SSD that is USB-C compatible and that solved the concern. Lastly I wish Google would have include some additional utility apps like an equalizer for example. Yes I went out and downloaded a couple of equalizers but then I had to figure out which ones worked the best without bombarding me with ads. It would have been nicer to have more of the basic apps included in the system.

Sound Performance
on October 31, 2019
Posted by: explore42
from Cincinnati Ohio
Overall I thought these ear buds performed reasonably well . The 3 hour battery life, the occasional dropped connection and the delay in lip sync maybe problematic for some.
Fit: The Sesh ear buds are totally wireless and mount in the opening of your ear. There is no ear hook so all the support and comfort of the fit relies on the way the silicone end piece fits in your ear canal. Three sizes of end pieces are provided and after a little testing I found one that fit well enough that I could move around without fear of an ear bud falling out.
Setup: The directions provided with the Sesh are not very intuitive. I ended up going to the website where better directions are provided. The ear buds come in a very nice case where they are magnetically pulled into the charging position. On the outside of the case there is line of led lights that show the battery level. Each ear bud has a small LED on the side to show you when its charging and when its pairing. The ear buds go into pairing mode as soon as you remove them from the case. I found that this was the best way to pair them, if they did not pair properly I would just reseat them in the case until the red light came on and then I would remove them and try to pair them again. Usually the ear buds paired quickly but there were times where it took a couple of attempts. There are extensive directions on the web site to address any pairing issues.
Functionality: The ear buds each have a single mechanical button on them that are used in various combinations to do everything from changing the volume to answering the phone. If you plan on using the ear buds for control expect to spend some time memorizing the commands. Secondly because of the fit the only thing supporting the ear bud is your ear so when you are pressing a mechanical button it can be annoying to your ear. I tested the Seth using my Ipad, Laptop and Samsung phone. I was able to pair with all the devices and go issue free within about a 20 ft space. Beyond 20 ft I would occasionally get drop outs but once I was back within range the ear buds would sync automatically. I was also able to connect with Siri, Ok Google and Alexa with good results.
Sound Quality: The ear buds provide the sound quality I would expect at this price point. No they don’t have booming bass or crystal clear highs but they do provide reasonably good sound quality. The overall sound performance will depend more on the quality of the music you stream and the equalizer – player program you use. Given good music to play I believe these ear buds can deliver. If you are using these to watch YouTube or a streaming movie expect to see some lip sync delay. It wasn’t the worse I have seen from wireless ear buds but its definitely there.

Heavy Hitter
on October 29, 2019

My first impression when I took this Dell out of the box was wow this thing is solid. By solid I mean the exterior metal cover looks and feels like a high quality refined piece of equipment. My second thought was wow it weighs a ton. But I wanted the larger 15 inch screen and I wanted the 2in1 which means heavier hinges on the screen so it was a trade off I was willing to make. At this size and weight this Dell 2in1 will never replace my tablet but what it does do is allow me to have some versatility that a standard laptop would not. Spec wise this laptop does a good job of delivering a decent performance for its cost point. You can spend a lot more to get an upgraded video card, 4k video display and an upgraded processor but for my needs the Intel video, HD screen and Intel i5 processor was a perfect match. It has more than enough power to let me stream HD video or work any office application without heating up or bogging down. I am not sure if the HDR display capability really means that much on a 15 inch screen but it’s nice to know it’s there. The MaxxAudio Pro boost included with the laptop really took me by surprise. I own several laptops and the audio quality in my headphones was the best I have ever heard from a laptop. Not sure what it’s doing differently but the sound quality is outstanding. The 500G SSD drive is super-fast and because of that the laptop boots up very quickly. The laptop has 2 of the newer USB 3.1 slots, an HDMI port and a Thunderbolt 3 port. The Thunderbolt port looks like a USB-C port but it has more functions than a standard USB port. I use mine to attach an external SSD drive thus I get much higher transfer rates than a standard USB would. The 2in1 performance will depend on what you are looking for. I like the fact that I can flip the screen over and have a tablet like device that still uses windows style apps. In the tablet mode this 2in1 performs solidly and I am yet to find an issue whether I am running a windows app or a standard pc program. The laptop also list that its Wifi 6 capable but since my home wireless is not wifi 6 I have not been able to see the benefit. Eventually when I do upgrade my router its nice to know this laptop will be ready to go. The only negative I have with this laptop is that it doesn't have an ethernet jack or an ethernet dongle cord included. I really like this Dell 2in1 and would highly recommend it for the average user.

Elements Guides you to be an Expert Video Editor

Over the years I have shot videos using VHS and HD camcorders, 4k action cameras and various Android and Apple phones. I would use the video editing program that came with the camera or phone to help clean up the images but most of them were lacking the features and capabilities I found in Elements. Elements allows me to enhance and combine various video clips shot from multiple devices into a single movie. Because the program is feature rich it can be confusing at first but luckily it includes multiple ways to help you learn how to use the program. It also incorporates facial recognition and auto tagging which helps organize and categorize your video segments. When you open Elements there is a film strip showing many of the typical task as well as an Auto Creation section where the program has auto created a movie for you! If you click on a task on the film strip such as Trim Your Video it will walk you through the steps that are needed to trim your video. You can bypass the film strip options and enter Elements Video Editor directly where you can select Quick, Guided or Expert mode. In the Guided mode there are 23 task that use animation to show you how to get many of the most popular task done with the least amount of issues. Once you learn the steps you can skip the Guided mode and go directly into the Expert mode. In Expert mode there are more features and options including one I needed which removes the graininess (noise) from old or poorly exposed movies. Adobe gives you total control over editing the video image in Expert mode while keeping it simple enough that anyone with enough time can master the techniques. The software allows you to create your own movies by combining video clips, photos, text and music. There are so many features and options in this program when it comes to transitions, music and video quality enhancements that you can spend more time selecting options than actually creating the movie. I run this program on a high powered PC and it does take time and resources when exporting or rendering a movie. Make sure your system meets Adobe’s requirements.

Can I use them as atmos speaker setup

These are surround speakers. For full atmos sound you need speakers that bounce the sound off the ceiling. Def tech makes speakers specifically to do this. They attach on top of the tower speakers.

Air Dry and Turn off Manually?

Can you confirm or clarify please. It says no heated dry so that means they have to air dry? One person said you have to manually hit button to turn off at end of cycle. Is this true?
Good question but not sure how to answer this. Its kind of magic because it uses some type of evaporation process. My old dishwasher had a heated dry and an air dry. If you used the air dry the dishes were still wet at the end of the cycle. With this unit the dishes are fully dry without using a heater element. The manual explains the technology but bottom line is works fine for me and uses less electric.

Clean every inch of every dish. This Samsung appliance washes away heavy foods without the need for you to pre-rinse. Plus, the quiet operation mean you won’t be interrupted by loud noises while the dishwasher is running.

Is this hardwired or does it plug into an outlet?

Contractor needs to know: Is this hardwired or does it plug into an outlet?
Mine is hard wired. I would suspect it is whatever the installer chooses to do.

Rotating spray arm?

Wondering if this dishwasher has a rotating spray arm that sits under the class rack? There are no photos that show the interior.
Yes it has a spray arm below the glass rack.
