Not the best for Exercise
on October 22, 2020

If you are looking for a health monitor to use during your day to day non-exercise activities the Withings Scan Watch might be worth considering. If you are looking for a health monitor to wear during any type of exercise I think you should consider something else. In using this watch I have found that it’s accuracy can vary quite a lot during exercise. During exercise sessions my heart rate is often reported several beats above or below what my chest strap monitor reads and I verified this by using two different brand heart rate monitors. On one cycling session which was intense/sweaty my average heart rate was only half of what my chest strap monitor recorded. Even under non strenuous exercise activities I have found that the heart rate values tend to be slightly over or under by a couple of beats fairly consistently. This happens on either wrist with the band tight and the watch worn as shown in the instructions. I had similar results when measuring my oxygen levels when compared to dedicated finger readers. As for the sleep detection, however I find that it detects my sleep time fairly well including the times when I wake up at night. I can’t comment on whether the depth of the sleep is accurate but the timing seems to be right. I can also say that the step count is pretty consistent and reasonably accurate although the two displays don’t quite agree (see photo). I walk the same route every day and the step count is consistently close to the same number afterwards. Because of the inaccuracies I have experienced using the measurements during exercise I only wear this watch for non-exercise activities.
The Withings Scan Watch is a fitness/health watch with the look of a classic wrist watch. (see photo) I think that Withings took a more traditional approach in this watch. Rather than create a plastic or rubberized looking watch like most of the competition they built the fitness functions into an attractive looking wrist watch. I got the sapphire crystal white faced watch and it looks as good with workout clothes as it does with a suit and tie.
This watch does the all the typical functions you would want in a fitness watch. It monitors your steps, distance covered, floors climbed, time and speed by utilizing the gps functions in your phone and an accelerometer built into the watch. Based upon this information and your personal profile the watch estimates calories burned and your overall fitness level. You can track your training using the 12 automatically recognized activities or you can manually select one of the 40 preprogrammed activities. The list is quite substantial and the activities are easy to set up if you choose one that is not auto-recognized. The watch also can monitor your sleep activity, breathing disturbances, your heart rate, your Sp02 oxygen level, as well as perform a medical grade ECG and watch for A-Fib heart arrhythmias. Lastly the watch can display notifications including activity notifications and text messages from your phone (see photo). The small display on the watch face will give you phone call alerts and display text messages but because the display is so small it is more of a notification than an actual display of the message. There is no function in the watch that allows you to respond to a text or phone call. The watch runs on a rechargeable battery and depending on how it is used can last up to about 30 days per the specs.
Setup: I hope because this watch is so new that the setup process will improve. The instructions in the box tell you to download the Health Mate App. When you first set up the watch it requires your personal profile information and inputting the date via the watch can take forever. This was very problematic with putting in a birth date because of the way they show the calendar. I found it was easier to input any date and then go back and edit the dd/mm/yy entry vs trying to flip through years and months in the app. Once you get the profile set up and the app syncs with the watch you are good to go for most of the common fitness and activity functions. I highly recommend going through the help center in the app to get the most use out of the watch.
Hardware: I really like the watch fit and feel. Its very light, the band is a rubberized band that looks nice but also keeps the watch tight to the wrist without being annoying. The digital display on the watch is a small circle in the upper half of the watch face. In the lower half of the watch there is another circle display that shows the number of steps taken that day. It’s a mechanical hand that indicates the percentage of your daily goal that has been reached. (see photo) To gain access to the various activities and monitoring features you use the side button – its like a watch crown but instead of pulling it out to set the time you press it in to access the menu and then rotate it to get the areas of interest. The watch supports swimming but should not be used for diving or snorkeling.
Health Mate App and Use: I have had the watch for a couple of weeks so far and I am still learning new features and functions. The application is menu driven with the four main areas being the home screen with all your latest measurements and trends; the dashboard screen with your activity, body, heart, nutrition and sleep data; the device screen which shows your watch settings and lastly your profile which shows your personal data used by the watch to provide information on your fitness (see photo). I have used other brands of fitness and health monitoring watches and I found that the Health Mate app is reasonably competitive with them when it comes to delivering the captured data. The App can be linked with Strava and several other fitness dedicated sites. It can also provide gps after-the-fact results to show where the activities took place but it does not provide any type of map routing. Because the watch can do so many functions it takes time to learn the various settings within the application. Luckily I found that most of the typical functions I use were auto recognized or easy to set up. Once it did decide my grass cutting was actually a cycling activity so the auto function is not totally fool proof.

Perfect Fit for Our Home Office
on October 18, 2020
Posted by: explore42
from Cincinnati Ohio
This Epson WF-4820 is a perfect fit for most small businesses or work at home offices. It provides the typical faxing, scanning, copying and printing capabilities that most people would need in a form factor that works for a small office. Compared to the laser printer we have the print image isn’t quite as sharp or have the same color depth but overall its fine for the typical day to day print and copy jobs. Our only gripe about the printer is that the exit tray is not well defined, has no stops at the end and is rather small. (see photo)
Features: The printer can print 25 black or 12 color pages per minute which makes it one of the faster printers in this price range. It can print up to 4800x2400 dpi and it can do automatic double-sided printing. There is a document feeder that hold 35 pages for copying or scanning. It has a dedicated fax line so you can fax directly from the machine using a land line without having to use a fax relay service. The printer uses Epson’s instant dry ink which means the ink doesn’t smudge however the paper still has a slightly damp feeling if it has a lot of ink on the paper. To control the printer there is a 4.3 inch display with intuitive instructions on how to use the printer. There is only one paper tray that holds up to 250 pages so you can only have one size paper loaded at a time. The printer uses 4 cartridges for ink, one black and three color. This is nice because you can replace a single cartridge when it runs out. Although there is no SD card slots there is a USB port on the front of the printer so you can print directly from a USB flash drive using the control panel.
Connectivity: We wanted a printer that could communicate via an ethernet cable as well as wireless and wireless-direct. Having wireless-direct we can let a visitor print directly to the printer without having to give them access to our wifi which is a good security feature. There is a short cut to activate wireless-direct right on the printer’s control panel home page. (see photo) The ethernet cable lets the wired computers print and the wireless feature lets us print from laptops, tablets and phones. So far we have been able to print from windows, ipads, android phones and chrome books with very little setup or issues.
Epson Software: I was shocked to find a CD with software and the manual actually included with the printer. Normally you have to download all that from the manufacturer’s website so having the CD does save some time in set up for the devices that still have drives. The software does give you the opportunity to install some additional Epson utilities besides the minimum required but its easy to unclick those if you don’t want them. The mobile app for the Ipads and Android devices were easy to install and have worked problem free. The software allows you to check the ink levels of the printer and does automatic updates to the printer so everything is kept up to date. (see photo)
Final Thoughts: This printer is quick and it provides competitive print quality. The ability to scan, fax or copy on demand makes this an extremely attractive printer. The document feeder so far has worked issue free but it’s not built for large jobs. This is not a super tank type printer so if you are planning on printing a lot its best to get the XL cartridges vs the standard cartridges that come with the printer.

Perfect for Any Activity
on October 1, 2020
Posted by: explore42

These Jlab Epic Air Sport ANC wireless earbuds set the standard in what earbuds are supposed to do. They are comfortable to wear, the audio quality is good, they last the full day between charges, the foam ear tips with the ANC help the outside world disappear and the JLAB app puts total control at your finger tips.
Features: These earbuds have nearly everything that I have ever wanted in earbuds. First off they are sweat and water resistant which means I can use them in all my activities. They have a wear detect sensor so the music pauses if I remove one of the earbuds without me having to do anything. The specs say I can go nearly 11 hours with ANC, without ANC I can get over 15 hours. The charging case is a little wider than some but its not as deep so it doesn’t show much when I have it in my pocket. The charging case has a built in USB cable and the leds on the front tell you the battery level as well as which earbud is being charged. What is really cool is that you can charge the case by placing it on a wireless charger. The app as mentioned below gives you total control over the earbuds. While its not perfect it still does a better job than many other apps I have used with earbuds. The earbuds have 3 pre-configured equalizer settings, Jlabs signature, bass boost and flat. You can also use the app to do fine adjustments to the equalizer. You can use either the left or right earbud singularly which I found nice when taking an unexpected phone call, I didn’t have to worry about which earbud I grabbed.
Operation and Use: I like the way that Jlab earbuds are made, you rotate them into your ear which for me offers a better overall tight fit. They also come with a set of foam ear tips which really helps limit the outside sounds. I found the Noise Cancelling to be reasonably good if I used the foam earbuds. If I used the silicon ear tips I still heard too much outside sound. With the foam ear tips I found the ANC would cut down but not totally eliminate the outside sounds which is what I would expect from earbuds vs over the ear headsets with ANC. Like other true wireless earbuds you can control the earbuds by using touch sensors on the earbuds. I found these to be slightly more sensitive than other earbuds that I have and it took a little time to get used to them. I really like all the features built into the charging case but what is kind of strange is that the left earbud is on the right side and the right earbud is on the left. The earbuds worked well when being used to take phone calls. Jlabs uses a dual microphones which helps with clarity and elimination of back ground noises. Sadly these earbuds do not have a mute function which I really would like to have. It would be nice to be able to mute a call using the earbud button versus having to dig my phone out of my pocket. The audio prompts built into the earbuds are concise and clear.
Audio Quality: Its hard not to like the overall audio quality of these earbuds. They aren’t audiophile quality but with the built in equalizer controls and the foam ear tips I was pleasantly surprised by how good they sounded. The bass was solid and the highs once adjusted sounded crisp. They do a good job with sound separation and provide a nice sound stage. Besides the 3 pre-configured equalizer settings you can create up 4 additional equalizer configurations that are accessed via the app. When I am working out or running I like to play the earbuds at an upbeat level and these earbuds stayed distortion free even at the higher volume levels.
JLab Air ANC App: Like the earbuds this app offers a lot of control but it isn’t very interactive which makes it less intuitive. The main sections of the app are Noise Cancellation, Equalizer, Customize Controls and Updates. In the Noise Cancellation page you can adjust the Noise Cancellation level as well as the Be Aware level which is the option to allow in ambient noise. So not only can you turn ANC on or off with or without outside noise you can actually adjust the level of each! Runners will find this very helpful. The equalizer in the app is a nice one with 10 frequency ranges that allow you to adjust the sound quality to meet your taste. The Custom Control page allows you to program the earbud switches to control volume, playback/track select, pre-programmed equalizer settings, noise control on/off and voice assistant. The Update page allows you to update the software in the earbuds. Everything in the app worked reasonably well however I did find some things not very intuitive. For example, when you go into the app and look at the ANC level it shows it with a white background when on and a slight light grey background when off. I would much rather had a green or red indicator or something easier to differentiate the on and off states. There is also a SET button that provides no feedback when pressed which leaves you wondering if anything happened. Bottom line is that the app has a lot of control but some of its usability is hampered by the lack of interactive notifications. Also the Upgrade page is nice but it doesn’t tell you what version your earbuds are to start with so you have no idea if the upgrade to the new version worked.
Issues with Sunglasses and Running: The ear hooks on these earbuds are more contoured than some other brands and hook my ears close to the top of my ear. The downside is that the hooks are fairly thick and not adjustable which causes my Oakley and Nike sunglasses to ride down between the ear hooks and my ears. For me because of the tight overall fit of the earbuds this is more of a nuisance than an actual problem but for some it could be an issue.

Photo Printer on the Go
on September 24, 2020
Posted by: explore42
from Cincinnati Ohio
Canon Selphy QX-10 is a compact portable printer that I use to print photos on the go. The photos are smaller 2.7 inch square photos but the printer can reproduce up to 256 shades per color at a 287x287 dpi resolution. For the physical size of the photo the 287 dpi provides good resolution and the 256 shades provide vibrant colors with good depth and range. Overall I think the print quality is quite good and because it uses a dry imaging process the photos are ready to go as soon as they exit the printer. The printer only comes with 4 sheets of paper and a color cassette that will only print 4 photos so be sure to pick up a couple of boxes of Canon XS-20L with the printer, each one contains 20 sheets and a color cassette that will print 20 photos. One important feature of the photo paper is that you can peel off a back layer to expose a sticky back that allows you to stick your photos to things like an album or document. The sticky back is like the glue on blue painter’s tape so you can re-stick it a couple of times without having to worry about destroying the photo. Removing the back paper from the photo does take some time and good finger nails. The only negative as with most printers is the cost of supplies, if you aren’t careful you can go through a box of 20 very quickly especially if you like passing out photos.
Setup: The printer comes with a paper manual but I found that loading the Selphy Photo Layout app on my phone and following the directions in the app was better. The app walks you through all the steps from loading the paper and the color cassette to registering the printer using the QR code on the printer. I had the printer up and printing in very little time. The printer runs on an internal battery that uses a micro USB cable to charge. Canon provides the cable with the printer but does not supply a power adaptor so you will need to use either a spare adaptor or PC USB port to charge the printer. It takes about 2 hours to fully charge the printer and there is an LED indicator that gives battery status on the printer. You can also get the battery status by using the Selphy Photo Layout App.
App and Operation: The Selphy Photo Layout app has some basic features that allow you to do some enhancements and editing to your photos. Once you select the photo you need to click on the image to align it and then you use the items in the ribbon menu to enhance it. I personally found it easier to use the photo editor on my phone to make any enhancements to the photo prior to using the Selphy app. Basically the Selphy Photo Layout app converts the photo to the size and resolution that the printer can print, it does not have to be the primary photo editing software unless you prefer to use it that way. Because the printer is totally wireless and does not have a memory card slot it makes printing photos from my Canon Powershot ELPH camera a little more difficult. To print those photos I download the images from the camera to my pc and then email them to myself. I then open the email on my phone and save the images to my phone’s photo Gallery. If you do this you have to make sure your photos don’t exceed your email’s limit on file size. The printer can have multiple devices registered, we have an Android phone, an Iphone and an IPAD all configured with the Selphy Photo Layout app and all can print. It takes slightly less than a minute to print the photo and you have to make sure the photo slot is not blocked because the printer feeds the photo paper out of and back into the printer several times during the printing process.

Great Water – Worrisome Connectors
on September 18, 2020
Posted by: explore42
from Cincinnati Ohio
I wanted to have good tasting filtered water from my kitchen sink’s faucet and the Filtrete Maximum Under the Sink Filtration System does a good job of doing that. My wife and I hated trying to fill up our coffee maker or our water bottles using the filtered water from the refrigerator. Now we can fill up our water containers using the kitchen faucet which is so much easier.

Everything I needed to install the filter under my sink was included with the filter. The directions were quite straight forward and there are several videos out there in case you would rather watch them. The installation relies on the use of several push on type connectors and one compression fitting so the entire process does not require a lot of work or special tools. I had mine fully installed within 30 minutes with minimal issues. One recommendation I have is to make sure your filter mounting bracket is not near your faucet’s retractable hose. The head of my faucet has a rather long hose that is stored under the sink when not extended and this could be problematic if it tangled with the filter’s mounting bracket.
Once I had the filter installed I ran the filter for several minutes and noticed a slight reduction in the overall water pressure. The water flow was still adequate enough for us so it was not a major issue. I haven’t had the filter long enough to know if the water pressure will continue to drop over time but I plan on replacing the filter at 6 month intervals just in case. The water tastes great and I have confidence in the Filtrete’s filter doing its job removing any contaminates.
Concerns: I have no concerns with the quality of the filter or the quality of the water. But having done some DIY plumbing in the past I would have been much happier if they would have used or given me the option to use pre-made braded water lines with screw on connections versus the plastic push on connectors and compression fitting supplied with this system. During my installation when I first turned on the water one of my push on connectors leaked until I reseated it. Push on connectors have been around for a very long time and for the most part have been reliable but it still makes me nervous using them around my kitchen cabinets and floor.

High Fidelity Earbuds
on September 4, 2020
Posted by: explore42
from Cincinnati Ohio
These earbuds surprise me every time I listen to music with them. The overall sound clarity and audio fidelity is beyond what I ever expected in an ear bud. If you can do without Active Noise Cancellation and moisture resistance these are great earbuds.
Sound Reproduction: These earbuds support SBC, AAC and aptX codecs. Since my phone supports aptX I was thrilled to get the higher quality music streamed to my earbuds. Sennheiser uses 7mm drivers in their high end earbuds including these CX 400s and they deliver crisp clear music. Although the Sennheiser Smart Control App includes a minimal equalizer discussed below I found that the equalizer app on my phone allowed me to really get the best sound quality out the earbuds. By adding some bass boost to the music I was amazed at how responsive the earbuds were. The bass was smooth and not muddled so a drum beat sounded solid and not distorted at an enjoyable volume level.
Set Up and Operation: Setting up these earbuds is extremely simple. They pair quickly via Bluetooth and once you have them paired they immediately connect when you remove them from the charging case. Because the Right earbud is the primary Bluetooth connection it is the only earbud that can be used singularly. The earbuds last about 7 hours per charge and using the base to recharge you can get about 20 hours total. The charging case has a single multicolor led to indicate the battery level but I found this to be less helpful than other charging cases that have four or five LEDs to indicate the battery level. The case uses a USB-C port for recharging and a cable is supplied. The earbuds use touch sensitive sensors to perform the typical functions like volume, play control and call control. I found the touch sensors to be very easy to use and they are sensitive without being overly problematic. The earbuds have the option to give you an audio beep when a sensor is touched and I found this to be very helpful for verifying that I was touching the earbuds sensor. Once I turned on the Alexa app on my phone I was able to fully access all my Alexa commands and functions via the earbuds. I found this very useful when streaming my music, a single touch to the earbud and I had Alexa managing my playlist. Taking calls via the earbuds were straight forward, one touch to the right earbud and I was in the call. The overall sound quality was great and the callers all said I sounded good from their perspective.

Smart Control Application: The app was easy to install and it quickly found the earbuds to control. The equalizer included with the app, while appealing visually didn’t deliver the same control that a quality equalizer app can so I found it not very useful. The button customization however is one of the major benefits of the app. Using the app you can select how the sensors on each earbud responds to a touch making the control of the earbuds as simple or as complex as you like. The one downside is that you cannot add a Mute function to the phone call control.
Final Thoughts:
- The earbuds do not have any type of IP rating for moisture or dust but because of the way they sit in your ear I would not recommend these for use in a gym or high movement activity.
- The earbuds do not have Active Noise Cancellation.
- The earbuds are large so they aren’t the most discreet earbuds. Also because of their larger size some may find them not as comfortable to wear over long periods.
- The earbuds do not announce the battery level when powered on which is disappointing. The app and charging case do show the battery level but you have to use them to find that out.
- Lack of a Mute feature while in a phone call.

Sport Flexibility
on August 15, 2020
Posted by: explore42
from Cincinnati Ohio
The JVC Sport Wireless earbuds offer a lot of flexibility for anyone on the go. They are dust, sweat and water resistant which means they are meant for the outside and the gym. The earbuds can be configured just as earbuds or you can add ear hooks for additional support. They also include different size ear fins which are small pieces of rubber that slide into the groves of your ear to help limit earbud movement. I found the combination of ear hooks and ear fins hold the earbuds more securely than any other earbud I have owned. Also because the ear fins help limit the movement of the earbud I don’t experience sounds caused by the earbud’s movement when I move rapidly. If you remove the ear loop from the earbud the ear fin still helps stabilize the earbud and once the gyms are safe that will be my preferred set up. I will still use the ear hooks however for doing any type of cardio workout like running.
Issues with Sunglasses and Running: The ear hooks help stabilize the earbud but they are made of a rubber type material with a fixed curvature. Because of this I cannot bend or manipulate them to better match the curvature of my ear. This becomes an issue for me when running with sunglasses. I have tried several different brand sunglasses and I have to make sure that the sunglasses's arms stay on the outside of the ear hook otherwise they will eventually loosen the earbud from my ear. The issue here is that one size ear hooks do not fit all ears and these ride high on my ears thus contacting the sunglasses’s arms.
Audio Quality: JVC includes two types of ear pieces. One set has holes in it to allow ambient sounds to reach your ear when wearing the earbuds. I found that I actually like these better when running or working outside because I am more aware of my surroundings. They don’t let in enough sound that it interferes with the music and you still have to remove them to carry on a conversation. For a quieter listen JVC also provides the standard ear pieces that do a good job of cutting off the outside noise. Overall the sound quality is good, the highs and mid-range are solid and the bass range is typical of earbuds. The audio quality for phone calls was acceptable but some found my voice to be not quite as clear as when speaking directly into the phone. I was still fully understandable it just didn’t sound as good.
Operation: These earbuds use a single button on each earbud to control everything like volume, on/off, fwd/rev and phone control. The problem with that is it can be annoying to keep poking yourself in the ear to get what you want. Luckily they are quick to pair and connect out of the case so if you use your phone to do the controlling it limits this issue. The earbuds last about 4 hours per charge and the included storage case can charge the earbuds up to 10 additional hours. The Bluetooth connectivity is quite solid with no issues with drop outs.

Light Therapy Gets the Nod
on August 15, 2020
Posted by: explore42
from Cincinnati Ohio
My primary interest in the Philips Smart Sleep and Wake Up light was two fold. First off I wanted something that would help wake me more naturally in the winter months. I hate dealing with an alarm clock on the dark winter mornings during the work week. Secondly I wanted something that would soothe the kids to sleep. This Sleep and Wake Up Light does a fairly good job at meeting both my objectives.
The design of the light is quite unique, its round with an offset hole in the middle and looks kind of modern. The base takes up a fair amount of space, its 8.8 x 8.6 x 4.7 and it needs to be close to the bed so that you can get the most benefit from it. The light functions as an alarm clock so towards the bottom of the light you can see the current time and the time set for any alarms. The brightness of the built in clock can be adjusted to keep it very dim which is wonderful. Right below the time there is a home key icon used for set up. The set up isn’t that difficult but because the icons are not common I recommend using the user manual which is provided to help navigate the settings until you are familiar with them. The set up is done by touching icons displayed below the current time. From the home menu you can set the alarm, the light intensity, audio choices and sleep therapy functions. On the top of the lamp there is a night light / snooze button. The night light illuminates the light with a low level redish orange glow.
Wake Up Functions: To set up the alarm you set the time to wake up, the final brightness of the light, how long it takes to get to full brilliance and the audio if you want sounds to join the light. If you choose to include audio to help wake you up can you use the built-in FM radio and its 5 preset radio buttons or you can choose from the seven included back ground sounds, five of which are nature sounds like birds chirping. The speaker quality is what you would expect on a typical alarm clock, its not great but not terrible either. The nature sounds at a lower to mid volume are pleasant but at higher volumes they start to become annoying. I have found waking up to slowly increasing light with the sounds of birds chirping to be a far more pleasant way to start the day.
Sleep Functions: There are two different programs built in to help you sleep. One called the sunset mimics the sun going down. You set the light’s brilliance and the time of how long it takes for the light to slowly go out. You can also add audio in the form of a light rain or ocean waves. Personally I think they should have included more choices because falling asleep can be more problematic. The second program is a guided breathing program. In this program you select whether you want sound or light to guide you along with the number of breaths per minute and how long you want the program to last. The sound guide uses the ocean waves but I found this more difficult to use than the light. The light guide uses the lamp to provide a red light that slowly increases and decreases in intensity. This was very easy to follow, inhale as it got brighter, exhale as it dimmed. I found both programs were helpful, the sunset program worked better for the kids while the adults liked the guided breathing better.
Things to Consider: The wake up light does a wonderful job of waking you and anyone else in the room up. If everyone isn’t getting up at the same time this could be an issue. My wife and I have different breathing rates so using the guided breathing program can be a little less successful for one or the other. The unit has power failure protection which means nothing is lost if you unplug it. This was a plus for me because I could use the sunset program to put the kids asleep and then unplug the light and move it into my bedroom to use the guided breathing and wake up light in the morning. There is no blue tooth or wireless connectivity so there are no apps for this model nor can you stream music to it. The light never gets hot and is always cool to touch.

Nice Bang for the Buck

These JLab Gaming Earphones are a nice option for someone who is looking for an affordable gaming earphone that has low latency. If you have younger gamers or students like I do then these are a good option because they can’t lose one of the earbuds, they are simple to set up, the battery life is quite long, they are comfortable to use and overall they provide acceptable gaming audio. Also the earbuds are magnetic so when you unplug them from your ears they fall on your chest and magnetically connect together. No more searching in the dark for a lost earbuds!
The earphones come equipped with a nice carrying bag along with a usb charging cable and more importantly a micro usb to 3.5mm cable that allows you to turn these into cabled earphones for anyone who wants no latency while gaming or cannot connect via Bluetooth like a Switch. This means you can direct connect the earphones to your xbox controller or game console. The audio quality on most games seem to be up to par with other earbuds that I have used. I did notice that these have a tad more bass than some although the bass seems to be more muffled at higher volumes. From the engine revs and squealing tires to the shot reports and explosions the sound quality seemed reasonably tight even when overlaid with voices and game narration. There is a built-in equalizer that has an option for games or music but I would recommend using the equalizer in the source player if you are looking to improve the audio quality.
The earphone base is well designed and wraps comfortably around the neck. Because of the wrap design the controls hang down below the earphones and are easy to find and use. On the right side below the earphones there is a sliding mute switch as well as a small control pad with an up button, a center button and a down button. These buttons have raised textures and are easy to locate and use. There are led indicators on the control pad to show pairing and charging functions. On the left side there is a built-in microphone which helps counterbalance the base. I have had no issues with Bluetooth drop outs or static when using these earphones with games, laptops or my phone. I have never run the battery down completely but I can get a full day out of a single charge. All considering I think these JLab gaming earphones provide a decent performance at an attractive price.

Interactive Toothbrush = Less Active Dentist

If you are a fan of Oral B’s electronic toothbrushes then this one will surprise you. This iO style toothbrush is totally different than the Genius, Smart and Pro series brushes. The head of this toothbrush does not rotate like past versions but rather vibrates in place. It still has the rounded brush head but the entire base of the brush and toothbrush mount have been changed so that only the newer style heads will work. If this is your first Oral B toothbrush then this is not a problem but if you are upgrading to an iO toothbrush be aware of the brush incompatibility. The other downside of the new iO brush heads is that they are nearly twice as expensive as the existing Oral B brush heads.
The iO toothbrush looks and feels solid, I believe the brush feels like an improvement over the older style. Its slightly shorter and thinner so its easy to handle and use. This model has a very nice graphical display that helps you interface with the toothbrush. I had to laugh because the first step in using your tooth brush is selecting a language! Using the two buttons on the brush you are able to select the six different modes; daily clean, whiting, gum care, intense, sensitive and super sensitive. The display will also give you “coaching” feedback on your cleaning. You can use the buttons to go into the set up mode to manage the blue tooth connectivity, change the color of the light ring and to do a factory reset. All of these options are very easy to navigate and very intuitive once you see them.
There are some things that I really like about this tooth brush itself. The brush has the Oral B timer built in so every 30 seconds the brush vibrates to let you know its time to switch to a different quadrant of your mouth. The color ring on the brush changes color to let you know when are putting the correct amount of pressure on the tooth. Too little its white, too much its red, just right it’s the color you selected in the set up. So the color ring provides great live feedback as you brush your teeth. Because the brush is lighter and not as bulky it feels more manageable. The high speed vibration vs the rotating head seems to feel more controllable when brushing as well. The charging station has also changed from the other models. The charging station is a small oval pad that uses magnets to keep the toothbrush upright while charging. I do have some concerns with this because the brush is standing on a flat surface with just magnets holding it. This is not a cheap tooth brush and if someone hits it accidentally there is nothing holding it to the base. On the plus side this brush seems to charge faster and hold a charge better than previous versions of Oral B toothbrushes.
If you download the Oral B app you can link your toothbrush to your phone. The app provides real time feedback when you are brushing your teeth. The app displays rows of teeth that change color as you brush them. If you brush them long enough they turn bright white. The app has coaching, dental challenges, brushing history and head replacement notification built in. The app is easy to use and combining the apps cleaning display showing the teeth turning white as you brush them along with the light ring on the brush making sure you are supplying the correct pressure on the tooth you feel confident that you have cleaned your teeth thoroughly.
The System 8 iO brush comes complete with 3 brush heads and a nice travel case. Best of all it comes in very cool violet color which is much better than the standard black or white versions.

Is this printer good for home use from a computer and my iPhone?

As long as you are printing about 100 to 200 pages per month this printer should work for you. The HP Smart software works on my Ipad so it should work on your iphone. Download the app from the Apple store and check it out. I have the software on my ipad and my windows laptop and can print without any issues. There are also buttons on the printer if you would prefer to use them vs the software app. This printer can scan, print and copy but it cannot receive faxes. You can send a fax using HP's cloud services but it cannot receive a fax. Also if you do a lot of color printing realize that the colors are in a single cartridge with this printer so if one color is used up you have to replace the entire color cartridge.

Enhance your mobile play experience with these Emerge gaming triggers. They can be added to smartphones to provide more satisfying left and right buttons, and the tactile switches are great for use with first-person shooters. These Emerge gaming triggers have suction cups to hold them securely in place during use.

Will they work on an iPad mini???

As long as you can download the HP Sprocket software from the Apple store and you can turn on the Bluetooth connectivity on your IPAD the printer should work fine.

Say goodbye to cords and cables with these Skullcandy Sesh true wireless headphones. Bluetooth technology seamlessly connects to your smartphone, tablet or PC, letting you stream music or take phone calls with the built-in microphone. These water-resistant Skullcandy Sesh true wireless headphones come with a charging case, providing up to an extra 7 hours of listening time.

What is the maximum distance that the blue tooth works before it disconnects from your phone??

The documentation for the Skullcandy Sesh says 30 feet but that varies with the device you are connected to and the environment you are in. I found that I could easily go to over 30 ft when connected to my IPAD but my at that same distance I would get drop outs when connected to my Samsung phone. The things to consider are the environment - thickness of walls and floors as well as other electronics that may be supplying interference.
