Make a smart solution to upgrade your home security to IndoorCam Mini. Never second-guess what you see in clear 2K resolution, and give yourself control with pan and tilt functions to monitor your home’s most vital areas. IndoorCam Mini features On-Device AI Human Detection, a technology that identifies humans in the frame and only sends you the notifications that matter. After returning home, you can turn on Home Privacy Mode, which turns off the camera and rotates it to your preferred privacy angle. Best of all, there’s no monthly fee after your purchase.

An Excellent Choice

This small indoor security camera is a new addition to the Anker products line. I have several Anker products, mostly peripherals, and have been pleased with them all. Because of that, I was interested in this new eufy camera. Overall, it is a satisfying choice so far.
This indoor camera may be a mini, but it is packed with features that previously you might only find in larger more costly cameras:
• Setting up your Mini is quite easy and can be done in minutes after you have downloaded the eufy app. It will guide you through the necessary steps and continue as an important part of ongoing operation. Once that’s done, you are ready to pair your Mini with either Alexa or Google to utilize voice commands. Alexa is my choice, and the pairing was seamless.
• The camera’s resolution is excellent. Video recording can be done in 2K HD (default) or Full HD (1080P). Unless you have an older phone or other playback device, go with the 2K. For streaming, in addition to the Auto (default) setting , there are three options from which to select. I’d suggest using the Auto, as it is adaptive to available bandwidth.
• With the night vision function, you are not going to see “living color.” However, the clarity of the capture is surprisingly good, even in full dark.
• Range of motion, pan (360) and tilt, and motion tracking features enable the camera to cover a large area of activity. The camera can be set to activate due to motion and/or noise detection. Importantly, the cam’s built-in AI can be set to record only when a person is detected. Use this setting to avoid pet alerts.
• When you want privacy, no worries. You don’t have to unplug or throw a cover over the camera. Select Home Privacy Mode in the app, and you are free to do what you will.
• Last, but not least, purchase of the camera is a one-time expense. No monthly fees! If you inserted a micro-SD during setup, it’s almost like “cutting cable” and saving $$. NOTE: Be sure you look at the depiction of the camera in the included info to find where the SD slot is located.
Despite its splendid features, it has a couple of operational quirks. The motion tracking works very well, but it does not pick up motion 100% of the time. Night vision is not 100%. I would say both would be in the 90’s, so no deal breakers. Also, there is a bit of a learning curve to fluidly use the app, as well as what functions Alexa (probably the same with Google) is responsible for. That’s on the user.
Overall, the eufy mini is a particularly desirable choice, and I do recommend it.

Cut the cable.

There’s an old saying that good things come in small packages. The 80-mile Indoor TV Antenna from Core Innovations is a good example of that being correct.
About two years ago, I “cut the cable,” and bought indoor tv antennas for my three sets. Then, I added a TiVo for recording/playback of TV channels (no subscription required). With video streaming on the smart TVs, life was good. The biggest challenge I had was getting an antenna brand that provided the local channels I wanted and didn’t look have to be wall mounted. The third brand I tried worked well, though it had to be mounted. Jump forward to the current time and my learning about the Core 80-mile amplified antenna. It’s a game changer.
What’s to like about this antenna?
• Long range. I cannot attest to the 80 miles, but I can say the TV on which I installed the antenna now has 29 channels available. I don’t expect to watch them all, but the number available almost doubled the current antenna.
• Using it with a 4k Ultra HD set, the excellent picture quality you are accustomed to is not compromised.
• To limit potential interference from mobile towers, there is a built-in filter covering 3G through 5G LTE.
• This antenna is very esthetically pleasing. Its design and white color are akin to other table/counter/shelf positioned devices. The cloth grey “face” is where the easily viewable signal meter is located. The meter is a three-arc open circle. Think these arcs as you would the reception bars on your phone. In positioning, the higher you can locate the antenna, the better the reception. Mine is on the top shelf of a four-foot-tall cabinet next to a window, and all three arcs are steady. Even better, I did not have to put any pin holes in the wall.
What’s not to like? Nothing so far.
Easy setup, looks good, works well, and a comparatively reasonable price, that’s a lot to like. In fact, I like it so well, I will likely get two more.

Works great, BUT.......
on October 26, 2021

The Eufy D20 comes well-packed in a box with all the small parts in clearly numbered cartons to assist in identifying where they fit into the installation process. Ideally, if you are replacing a lock, the existing hole in the door should work. If so, the installation process is quite simple, within 5-10 minutes, if you have followed the instructions in the Eufy Security App.
Once the lock system is installed and working, you’ll find it easy to connect with Alexa (should be the same for Google Assistant) and use voice control to lock/unlock your door. In addition, you can do the same via Wi-Fi using the app for control. Overall, set up is seriously easy.
On the flipside:
• The Eufy D20 is not pretty. It has white numbers and icons on a flat black background. Combine that with its bulky design and weight (approx. 2.5 lbs.), it appears as if it would be more appropriate on a garage or an industrial building than on a front door. If you don’t mind that, then it’s all good.
• The lock system eats batteries in an extreme way! A few hours after setup, the app was telling me the batteries needed replacing. That seemed odd, but I thought perhaps the included batteries (4) were faulty. So, I installed a new set of batteries of a noted brand, and all seemed OK. Next day, the app was telling me the batteries needed replacing. Sure enough, a battery tester showed all batteries installed new were in the red zone. So, unless you have an endless supply of batteries provided at no cost, this issue is a deal killer.
It is a shame that a device that is so easy to set up and works so well is hindered by gobbling up battery power and, in doing so, makes it costly to use.

A Winning Choice

Before Blink, I thought there was only one brand of video doorbell for me. With this new doorbell from Blink, my opinion has changed.
Why Blink?
• You can choose whether to use wired installation or unwired installation. If you choose wired, you can easily install it to replace a currently wired device. (Be sure to shut off the electricity to the device first.) If you choose unwired, as I did, you can put the Blink anywhere you want.
• Set up and activation is a snap, almost done in a “blink.” Download the Blink app (If you already have the Blink app, be sure to download the recently updated version.) and follow the simple instructions. I got the update, followed the steps in the app; and, within about 5 minutes, the doorbell was linked to the Sync module, linked to my mesh Wi-Fi, paired with Alexa, and ready to use.
• The Sync module (an optional item included with this packaging) is not necessary for the doorbell to work. However, having the Sync increases functionality. One example being it can serve as the indoor chime. Also, the Sync is highly recommended for non-wired use, because it can help increase the usage life of the batteries (up to 2 years projected). Importantly, up to 10 Blink cameras can be linked via the Sync, so you are set up for expansion.
• When the doorbell is rung, you can see who is there via Alexa or your phone and communicate with them via two-way audio. HD Live View and video quality are good day or night.
• With Blink there is no required subscription plan for operation. With a subscription plan, you are able record photos/videos
• The icing on this delicious cake is you can have it all for well under $100.
This Blink Video Doorbell + Sync Module package is an all-around winner: Easy installation. Works well. Modest price.

IT'S OK.

Oster has long made quality small appliances for the kitchen. Coming from that base, I expected this new Air Fryer/Oven combo would awe me.
The good, the bad, and the ugly of the DAF2 model are:
*Coming out of the box, the oven looks small. It has less width and more height than other toaster ovens I have owned. Turns out, it is just wide enough to manage a 12” pizza.
*The writing on the box says there are 9 digital touch controls for bake, broil, toast, air fry, convection, defrost, fries, and dehydrate. That is not correct, as those functions are selected by turning a knob. The items that work by touch are Start, Cancel, Temperature up/down, and Time up/down, and they can be a little finicky.
* The “Rapidcrisp Technology” is a turbo function designed to provide crispness in quick time, and it does work well.
* The turbo convection is designed to provide faster and more even cooking. It is definitely fast; however, my experience cooking lasagna contradicts the even cooking. About 2/3 of the lasagna was fine (nicely done with gooey cheese on top and tender pasta under), but the other 1/3 was blackened (cheese burned to a crisp and pasta overcooked).
*The Air Fry function did well with fries: crisp and done. Breaded chicken breast filets were a much different result. Using the suggested settings, the chicken was crisp on the outside but only half-cooked on the inside.
*The DAF2 model does not have a pizza preset or an interior light. If those features are must haves, the instruction manual shows them available on a DAF1 model.
As I said in the title, this oven is OK, but far from great. It is fine with simple tasks like fries, but I don’t find it dependable for more involved cooking tasks.

Quick High Performance
on September 21, 2021
Posted by: Cipher469
from Spanish Fort, AL
My prior Air Fryer was different brand, and it performed well. However, there have been numerous improvements in Air Fryer technology and functionality since I got it. Because I own several types of Bella cookware and am happy with all items, I wanted to check out their new Model AFT05005A-UL in the Bella Pro Series of Air Fryers. I am pleased that I did.
Taking the Fryer out of its box, my first thought is that it looked to have a smaller footprint and be lighter in weight than I was used to. Those impressions were correct; however, it turned out they were assets. The smaller footprint device can manage over 4 lbs. of food, and the lighter weight makes it much easier to move, if needed.
Features include:
• The Fryer performs all the usually expected tasks: Air Fry, Roast, Bake, Broil, Reheat, and Dehydrate.
• Cooking choices and controls are easy to see on the large digital touchscreen located on the top of the cooker. Its location means no bending over to look for controls. In addition, only a noticeably light touch is required. Ergonomically great!
• You can see the food and its cooking progress by touching the “Light” button, which turns on an inner light, allowing you to see the food through a window. No more having to open the cooker to see what is happening. If you do wish/need to open the cooker, the timer will pause until the cooker is closed.
• The crisping tray that goes in the bottom of the pot has a small pickup tab in the center to aid you in removing the tray for cleaning. No fumbling around trying to get it out of its snug position.
• Excellent non-stick coating on the pot and the crisping tray makes them quite easy to clean. They can be put in the dishwasher, but I prefer to soak them in hot water and Dawn. Later, I use a soft cloth to wash off any remaining cooking residue that didn’t rinse off by itself. Either method means no scrubbing needed.
• Now for one of my favorite improvements in cooking with a Fryer: Turn on the cooker and wait for it to heat up to the proper temperature? Not with this one! Cooking instructions say 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Put the food in, program the numbers, and don’t worry. In 15 minutes, the food is done. You could have spent an additional 10-15 minutes preheating (as I have done with other cookers). The 1500-Watt circular heat technology is seriously amazing. Almost like magic!
• One thing to bear in mind when cooking is the time and temperature a recipe calls for are not always spot on. So, rather than blame the cooker, make your own adjustments, as necessary. For example, I now know to cut about 2 minutes off sweet potato cook time. My boldest use was cooking a Porterhouse steak. I had planned to grill the steak outdoors, but pouring rain killed that plan. Since I had the steak already prepared, I put it into the pot and used the Air Fry function. It was ready in about 10 minutes for medium. The cooker, to its credit, did its job and helped me on a rainy day. Even so, it’s hard to beat steaks grilled outdoors.
In the Model AFT05005A-UL Air Fryer, Bella has once again shown they make quality products. This Fryer is a great kitchen partner, especially if you are in a time jam. It’s got the magic power!

Looks Good. Works Well.

If, like me, you are not familiar with Instant Brands, you might not consider it for an air purifier. Quick research shows the company offers some very well-known product brands. So, the name is strong, but what about the purifiers? Instant offers several models of purifier to accommodate varying needs: room sizes from 136sf to 419sf. The AP300 is the largest and is being used in the master bedroom.
The AP300’s design is attractive, particularly if you choose it in Pearl. The size is rather compact making it very easy to place/move as needed. Once you have it out of the box and have removed the packing material, all you need do is plug it in and touch the “On” button on the easy to see touch-screen control panel. You will see it count down 30 seconds (measuring room air quality), and then cleaning begins. At startup, the fan speed controls will default to “Auto.” With the seamless automatic operation, you might never need to touch the controls again. There is a very clear and detailed description of the control panel functions in the User Manual that comes with the purifier.
In the “Auto” setting, the purifier’s plasma ion technology helps breakdown impurities. Should you want to turn off the ion setting, touch the “Ion” button. To turn it back while the purifier is still running, simply touch “Ion” again. Sure, I played with it at first, but I found it’s best to just let it do its thing. Check in occasionally to be sure all is as should be. Also, at some point, the filter is going to need service. Filter life is projected as 6-8 months. When in normal operation, the AP300 is whisper quiet! Even when it “revs” up for heavy cleaning, it is not particularly loud.
Along with the Plasma Ion cleaning feature, the AP300 has 3-in-1 filtration designed to remove 99.97% of airborne particulate. The 3-in-1 components are a true HEPA-13 (removal of allergens, smoke, etc.), an activated carbon filter (removal of odors) and an antimicrobial filter coating to prevent microbial growth and protect from degradation).
As I was writing this review, it crystallized how much I have come to like this purifier. It sets itself up, looks good, work wells, is whisper quiet, and is competitively priced. What’s not to like?

Great Choice for BP Monitoring
on September 16, 2021
Posted by: Cipher469
from Spanish Fort, AL
I have had a compact BP monitor for years, and I was looking for something more up to date. The Beurer BM50 fills the bill. Within moments after extremely easy assembly, the monitor is ready to go.
Anxious to see how comfortable to use and accurate it would be, I checked it first while sitting quietly. The reading was spot on for my resting normal range of pulse rate and systolic and diastolic pressures. Evaluating it after various activities, it produced accurate results.
The best feature of the Beurer is that it works well. That said, it has other very likeable features:
* The cuff is comfortable and easy to put on and to remove.
* There is a large, easy-to-read lighted monitor, which clearly displays the systolic, diastolic, pulse measurements, and should it occur, irregular heartbeat. The display also shows date and time (set up instructions in manual) of the measurement, which can then be loaded into memory. There is memory space for two people with 100 entries each. Next to the display, there are color indicators as to various levels of risk that accompany your numerical readings.
* The Beurer has a talking function that lets you know when the device is ready (promptly after turning on), as well as, speaking your measurements when completed. This would be immensely helpful to someone with vision impairment.
* If you forget to turn off the monitor, no worries, it will turn itself off.
* The monitor comes with a nicely detailed manual, a rarity these days across all lines of products

Overall, I am very well pleased with the Beurer BM50 and consider it an excellent buy.

Not Your Father’s Laptop
on July 18, 2021
Posted by: Cipher469
from Spanish Fort, AL
Dell’s XPS 9510 laptop is loaded with so much of the latest and greatest hardware (see pic for overview of the specs) that I am surprised the OS is not Windows 11. No worries, it’s a work of art in functionality and appearance. Given the excellent packaging, I believe Dell sees it that way, also.
Taking it out of the box, you will notice the 9510 is a bit heavy, weighing in at 4+ pounds; but its performance should counteract negative feelings about the weight. It is available in Platinum Silver and Arctic White. I chose the white primarily because I have never had a white one. In certain light, the white color seems to affect the visibility of keyboard characters when the keys light up. That’s not a buzz kill, just a need to be conscious of lighting and adapt to it.

The touch pad is the largest I have ever seen, and I love it. My fingers are not as limber as they used to be, so this pad means no more worrying about touching just the right spots on a small pad. The large pad does mean the keyboard is more compact; however, as I get more acclimated to it, it is not a problem.
The OLED touch screen produces such great viewing that I find myself reluctant to “desecrate” it by touching it.
My desktop is a Dell All-in-One that I’ve had about a year, and I totally love it. That said, the bar was set high as to my expectations of Dell’s new super laptop’s performance. The 9510 exceeds those expectations.
Don’t forget to check out the specs shown in the accompanying picture.
As to recommending the Dell XPS 9510, that is an affirmative.

OK Shaver
on June 28, 2021
Posted by: Cipher469
from Spanish Fort, AL
As a rule, I believe Philips Norelco makes a range of good to excellent electric shavers. My current shaver is a PN S6880, which I like very much. Because it does not have a built-in trimmer and popup heads for easy cleaning, I thought I would try the 3000 Series model which has those features.
The built-in trimmer and the popup function for cleaning the heads, while both great features, do not make up for a shortcoming in the shaving performance….wet or dry. Dry left a lot of stubble, and wet left less, though still more than I find acceptable. In addition, the design of the ”handle” makes it uncomfortable to use.
For me, the ease of use of the shaver and the closeness of the shave received far outweigh the peripherals. My S6880 is still the best electric shaver I have ever used: quality of shave and great ergonomics. If the quality of the shave is your main criterion, I suggest you consider a shaver from one of a higher numbered PN series. They may cost a little more; but, with Philips Norelco, you get value for the difference.
If you don’t need a close shave, the Series 3000 (Model 3134) could be a good choice for you and at an economical price.

Can this camera do motion tracking for People ONLY? And stay still for everything else? Or will it track every movement. I'd rather have it track people only instead of cars driving by etc.

Yes. That option is in the Settings.

What is the usb connector for?

If, instead of using the electrical plug for power, you want to plug into a power source with USB outlets, you will use it for the connection.

Shark AI Robot VACMOP combines powerful vacuum suction and hard floor wet mopping for a complete clean, all in one robot. Features include: Shark suction power, Sonic Mopping that delivers 100 scrubs per minute for stuck-on stains, and AI Laser Navigation for precision cleaning.

Is this product safe to use on laminate floors? My floors do not recommend steam mopping, not sure if this product uses steam. Also, if it does, is one of the vacuums safe for my floors? Thanks, WMC

No worries. No steam involved. Just water alone or water mixed with the provided cleaning fluid.
