Quality lights, calibration/camera lacking.
on June 2, 2022
Posted by: charliehustle77
Before installing this Govee kit I had a cheapo brand I bought online on the back of my tv. It worked for what it was and eventually shorted out because the quality just wasn't up to par.
This kit from Govee is a major step up in quality. The lights are thick and rubberized and have a medium adhesive backing. Where my old led strip had to be cut and installed into a led coupler of sorts, the Govee kit has a break point at each corner where it's just normal wire. Makes it easier to install and easier to center the lights on the back of the TV.
Once installed, setup was relatively simple. Connected to my network and calibrated. Because my 65" tv is so thin, I decided to try to start calibration on the bottom or thicker part of my tv. When the camera took a picture of the tv to calibrate, I could not see the top of the tv. I went with it anyway and got so-so results. I didn't want to settle so I moved the camera to the top of the tv, mind you the tv is basically bezel-less on the top so this is against my better judgement. Same issue as before, the camera could not recognize the bottom of the tv. For the next few days I've gone back and forth top and bottom looking online for suggestions and watching youtube vids until I finally settled on the bottom and was able to wedge a piece of of the orange foam in behind the camera backing in order to angle it more towards the top of the tv. The camera still did not recognize the top of the tv as a whole, but it's the best I could do.
Basically at this point the LED's at the bottom of the screen do a great job reading color on the screen but the LED's at the top of the screen mostly stay one hue the whole time.
I question why the camera is made stationary on the stand. Why not put a few small hinges at the camera at the arm and at the base to control the angle better? Instead you have customers searching for solutions by adding foam pieces behind the camera base. Another issue is when calibrating once you get the blue dots at the tv edges as best as possible, it allows fine tuning with orange dots, however those orange dots are only on the bottom part, none at the top. Adding the fine tune calibration option to the top would likely solve most of the issue. I'm guessing there's a reason why this is done this way but maybe an app update could help?
The lights lights are strong and used as a static color look amazing, I just assume this kit is not made for all tv's and some will suffer the same issues I am dealing with. I'm not giving up on this kit, I'm going to figure out a way to make it work because the immersion at the bottom of my tv looks great, but a few design and app tweaks could make this Govee product a definite buy at this price range.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Compact and powerful.
on June 2, 2022
Posted by: charliehustle77
This is a first Shark Air Purifier that I've had the pleasure of using. I do own several shark vacuums that work like a charm. I was interested to see if the two were comparable. I was not disappointed.
This air purifier is spec'd to purify up to 500 sq ft so we popped it in an area where we keep our golden doodle. Although the breed of dog we have does not shed much at all, we still experience more than normal dust and dander in the area where he sleeps. Upon turning it on, I discover that the air purifier is very easy to use and could be used by a novice or elderly person to get True Hepa clean air in their area. The air purifier is small and quiet but sucks a ton of air which you can feel just by holding your hand over it.
The Purifier told me my air was about 85% when turning it on. I left it on high for about 2 hours and came back to it floating between 98-99%. Wow. After that I've been leaving it on auto so that it turns itself on and off when needed. It also tracks 3 different particulates PM1, PM2.5, and PM10.
The only thing I would enjoy having is a wifi connection to monitor the air quality thru an app, however I know that would likely increase the cost and effect the ability for some to be able to use it. I know it would be easier for my grandmother to use this than for me to come over and hook it up to wifi and have to troubleshoot any issues.
Filters are said to last 6 months to a year depending on your usage. Filters on the shark website range from $60-$70 depending on the kind you choose so factor that into your cost after 1 year.
For the cost and value I think Shark has hit another one out of the park with this little guy and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful purifier that can clean a 500 sq ft area without the wifi/bt bells and whistles.

Comfy earbuds with ANC missing a real EQ.
on May 27, 2022
Posted by: charliehustle77
I really dig the looks and feel of these earbuds. They feel rugged and don't have a slick appleish feel to them, more of a textured feel. The case also shares that texture along with the adidas logo which you can press to see how much battery remains. The claim on battery life for these seems about right from what I experienced around 4.5 hours while using ANC and 6 hours without ANC.
The fit passed the "sweaty lawn mowing test" that I like to give them. Neither one of them fell out of my ear or even felt like they would while using them on a 90 degree day push mowing the lawn.
Sound quality is good, not great. It feels like deep bass notes are missing from these that you get from other mid-tier earbuds. The ANC seems to work well, not as good as say Sony or other brands but definitely noticeably less noise. Same with the awareness function. The EQ is strange. There are several presets that show up on the screen what looks like an EQ, however you cannot edit or change these settings. This seems like a pretty basic feature that could be unlocked but isn't. Maybe another update will unlock that feature. I definitely consider that a con.
Other features include wireless charging IPX5 rating for decent water resistance and the case has an IPX4 rating. You can edit the long press function to change to several different actions like spotify, noise control, voice assistant or the adidas app if you use that.
All in all if you can get these on sale I don't see an issue with them. I think that the lack of a real EQ and decent not great sound quality might make some leery of these and make them spend a bit more for a higher quality product.

Good value for a Mesh WIFI 6 router with extenders
on May 26, 2022
Posted by: charliehustle77
Before trying out the Motorola AX1800 I was running a Tri-band Linksys router and a smaller range extender that worked well. A few dead spots around the house had me wondering if the solution is more of a mesh system. For the price the AX1800 with 2 extenders is worth it in my opinion. You won't find a deep dive techie features on this router however, so if you're more of an IT specialist with the need to tweak and all parts of your router, I haven't figured out how to do that yet and don't really know if it's an option. The instruction/startup "pamphlet" is pretty lacking and I couldn't really find much more on this router online.
Unboxing. These router/extenders are about the size of a large cereal bowl. They don't look terrible so I actually have one of mine sitting nicely on a bookshelf and it looks like part of the decor. I wish there was a way I could hang them on the wall to conceal them. I'm sure once I have more time I will find some type of universal bracket that I could use to conceal them behind things like the TV.
On to performance. I plugged it in and downloaded the app and within a half an hour it was basically setup and that's mainly because the extenders didn't want to connect the first time around. Each one timed out and asked me to try again. Second time around I got the message that "Your network looks spectatular." Cool. Ran a speed test before installing the AX1800 in about 4 different areas of my home and the AX1800 showed download speeds of 15-40 mbps higher than my Linksys.
The mobile app offers several basic features such as different profiles that you can create and track, network usage that you can track sites that are visited, timeline, support and settings. You can also add full home filters for ad privacy security plus and adult block to block adult websites. I think this is a good setup for parents who want to limit and block content and put time frames on their kids web usage.
I am thinking of getting one of these for my parents because it's super easy to use and they will get better coverage throughout their home vs using the modem/router they currently use that's provided by their isp.
Cost vs. value is there for someone looking to get more steady coverage throughout their home, but if you're looking to have access to every part of your router and fine tune everything to a tee...I haven't figured that out yet and you may want to steer clear. Maybe more will be shared from techie users thru forums or videos at a later date on that.
I would recommend this to those who fit the criteria above.

Good affordable mid tier over ear headset
on May 4, 2022

This is the second generation A10 wired headset while I have no experience with the first one this one, for the cost, performs admirably.
Upon removing the headset from the box you can see it's built well. It's very flexible and light with a 3.5" jack to plug into your controller (I run ps5). The memory foam in the headset and around the ears feels like it's well made and comfortable. The earcups are removable but I'm not sure they offer replacements (more on that later). The earpieces rotate up and down but don't swivel around although I don't see that as such a big deal since with the weight of these they rest nicely on you head. I am happy to see the pads are removable as the size of the ear holes is pretty small. I'm a grown man with regular sized ears and they do not fit all the way inside the hole. They rest on top of my ears. Not super uncomfortable but I'm used to headsets that swallow my ears. Thats really my only negative of the headset. It's not a huge deal breaker and I never experienced any fatigue from wearing these. Maybe they will create newer, larger pads. The volume control rests on the cable, not on the headset but works well where it is.
The sound you get from these is decent, not earth shattering and not bottom of the line. I feel that the bass is well balanced and I got good sensitivity when playing COD. The depth might be where these are lacking compared to more high dollar headsets. You won't be able to grab sound from far off in the landscape, but when sound is closer they do fine.
All in all, for the cost these are a good buy. You won't have to worry about babying them and taking it easy on them since they're relatively affordable yet really flexible and twist and turn easily while bouncing back in to shape. Astro offers these in 5 colors so there's something for everyone. With only a few negatives (ear cup size and sound depth) I recommend these for those just starting out gaming or trying to save a few bucks yet take advantage of a mid tier quality headset. If you're a big time gamer that spends hours and hours on honing in your FPS skills, these likely aren't going to provide the quality you want.

Mattress in a box. Worth it.
on February 15, 2022
Posted by: charliehustle77
from Virginia
I have to admit, I was skeptical. I always got my mattresses from the box stores, at a premium cost. When I dragged this mattress inside the house I didn't think it would be up to par. I was wrong.
We are putting this mattress in a spare bedroom for guests. The box, while heavy isn't too much for someone to shove around. I dragged it in the spare bedroom and unloaded it. There was a slight chemically smell, nothing crazy but noticeable. The bed took about 2 full days to fully plump up. Once ready, I threw it on the and put some clean sheets on and waited for bed time.
We have a king size traditional pillow top on the bed in our master bedroom, I remember the first few days maybe weeks I had issues getting used to the new bed. I can honestly say I slept soundly on the Simmons 10" mattress for 4 days straight. I didn't wake up with any aches or pains and I didn't wake up in the middle of the night too hot, it was actually the opposite as the mattress kept me very comfortable. The 10" height may seem thin but this might actually be a good mattress for an elderly or disabled person due to it not sitting very high off the bed frame.
I am very happy with this mattress and although I've only slept on it a few nights I am debating on gettin an additional mattress for our master bedroom. Highly recommend it!

The average person touches their phone 2,617 times per day, transferring germs to it with each touch. The simplehuman EPA-registered cleanstation uses an omni-lux™ chamber to sanitize the entire surface of your phone, killing 99.9% of germs in just 30 seconds – fast enough to use while washing your hands. As soon as you insert your phone, it automatically lowers into the omni-lux chamber where 30 high-intensity UV-C LED lights use highly reflective aluminum to ensure UV rays are hitting the entirety of your phone's surface. When sanitation is complete, the phone will automatically raise up. Keep your cleanstation by the sink so you can wash your hands with simplehuman's touch-free sensor pump while sanitizing your phone at the same time.

Works well with most phones
on February 1, 2022

This phone sanitizer has a very sleek and clean looking design. It lowers your phone into the sanitizer, cleans it (99% allegedly) and then pops it back up like a smooth little toaster. I have an iphone 12 pro max with what I would consider a relatively slim otterbox case and this device will not accept it. I have to remove the case in order to clean the phone, which in turn is going to make me use it alot less. This would have probably been better if it were a little deeper and a tad bit wider with all the newer and larger phones coming out. For what it is, it's cool and useful but I would try it first with your favorite case.

Excellent humidifier

Having 2 little ones in the midst of a cold bitter winter, we're dealing with chapped dry skin, colds and upping out lotion use alot this winter. We leave humidifiers running in both of their rooms overnight and now we have the Kyvol HD3 sitting in the living room. This thing looks good, is quiet and holds alot of water. It has a little indicator light that comes on if water gets low.
All in all you get a great looking humidifier with a quite operation. You don't get any features like wifi or bluetooth so if you're looking for something like that I'm sure other models are available. I recommend this for what it is.

Compact, sleek and fast.

This is a really cool little printer. Very small footprint for a laser printer. I currently have a big heavy laser printer that takes up half of a kitchen table, it prints color so I'll keep it around but this black and white printer from HP is very very nice for the price!
I set it up using my computer with no issues. Ran a couple of test prints and came away very impressed with both the quality and the speed of this printer. It prints quickly at around 21 pages per minute.
With myself working from home more and my wife finishing her masters, we are signing up for the HP instant ink option that costs anywhere from $2-$25.00 for ink once the 6 month trial is over.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone that needs a small, fast laser printer for home or on the go that doesn't take up a whole table. Go for it!

Serious protection. Subtle styling. Built sustainably. WĀKE for Apple iPad (7th generation, 8th generation, and 9th generation) is a sea-change in case construction, using mostly ocean-based recycled plastic without sacrificing performance. Molded with a mellow wave pattern, the look is contemporary to the core. And after purchase, you get to donate a dollar to one of LifeProof’s water-conscious nonprofit partners — for free.

Sturdy but too tight.
on December 2, 2021

This case feels very sturdy but getting it on my ipad was slightly stressful. The fit seems to be a tad bit too tight. I like that it's made of recycled ocean fishing waste, a really good concept however this is an ipad my 4 year old carries around. I don't know if I feel confident enough with him using it with this case. I've since ordered screen protection but my guess is in the end I'm going to have to go back to the folding case that was previously on the ipad before I got the Wake.
I think this might be a better option for a smaller ipad mini since getting the case on required me to force the corners on by pressing down on the ipad screen edges while the wake case was laying on a table.
It does look and feel sleek and have a cool design so I'll give a few stars for that but for me it will probably end up being removed for the sake of my nerves.

Minimize movement and maximize comfort with ERGO M575—a wireless trackball with sculpted ergonomic shape. With no need to move your arm around to move the cursor, your hand and arm stay relaxed. Remarkably smooth and responsive cursor control works perfectly on any surface. Connect simply via Bluetooth Low Energy or the included USB receiver with a 33 ft (10 m) range.

hi, the M575 has only been available on Logitech's site in graphite and off-white colors. Guess best buy is having it now... is this "black" color really black? or is it the same graphite-gray that logitech sells on their site?

The part number on the black M575 from Best Buy does not match the part number for the graphite version from Logitech. I would guess they are not the same.

How comfortable are they? Do they feel like they're going to fall out with rigorous exercise (running) or do they have a secure fit a majority of the time?

These fell out of my ears while I was doing nothing. They don't feel secure. The sound on these are great but working out and exercising with these on will probably not be a good idea.
