An intense, surprisingly well-executed film depict

The opening scenes introduce us to a dystopian futuristic America in which we have overcome staggering recessions, unemployment and crime rates. Everyone seems happy and at peace with the means that provide this thriving economy.
So what do they have to thank? The Purge. The Purge is a 12-hour period during which all crime is legal and all police, medical and emergency services are suspended. Radio and news casts bombard viewers with soma-popping Brave New World mantras about "unleashing the beast within" to "cleanse [or purge] our inherently violent nature."
What's most interesting about this society is that The Purge is embraced by most everyone. Sure, there are media debates on how The Purge "targets" the poor who can't afford to defend themselves, but even the wealthy--with their armored home security systems--socialize, talk about what they're doing during The Purge or "purge" together in hunting parties.
All of the pro-Purge political views are presented through an upper class filter--more specifically, the pro-Purge mindset of James Sandin (Ethan Hawke; Sinister, Daybreakers), a home security system salesman who lives in a ritzy neighborhood full of fake, well-to-do smiling neighbors. This year, instead of attending a party, James is spending a quiet purge with his wife Mary (Lena Headey; Game of Thrones, Dredd, The Cave, The Brothers Grimm), son Charlie (Max Burkholder) and daughter Zooey (Adelaide Kane).
James' family is less embracing of The Purge than the rest of the neighborhood but, for fear of death, they abide by the social standard but do not themselves partake. Catching more of our attention is James. His security system sales are booming, he's boat shopping and he talks a big game about supporting The Purge but when he justifies its value or explains to his son why he has never felt the urge to purge there is more than a dash of a hesitation in his tone.
Things begin to go wrong for the Sandins when Max sympathizes with an injured man. He hears his cries for help on the surveillance system and disarms the security for long enough to let the man into the house for safety. Shortly thereafter, a group of over-educated young adults led by polite stranger with an intensely striking sense of rich kid entitlement demand that the Sandins release the injured victim into their lethal care as a Purge tribute. If the Sandins don't, the strangers threaten to penetrate the security system and kill everyone. That's what you get from the preview and I won't give you any more except to say that things get interesting, intense, gory, fun (for violent film fans) and equal parts predictable and unpredictable.
I thought all of the actors did a fine job. Solid performances across the board! Some may consider the polite stranger (Rhys Wakefield) to be pretty hammed up, but I thought his supervillainous, sociopathic and zealous mentality helped separate this strong film from the likes of The Strangers, which carried no social commentary or message whatsoever. As extreme as the premise may seem in The Purge, I must admit that it got me thinking. Not necessarily "agreeing," but thinking.
I went into this movie excited because of the preview, but nervous as to how it would play out. In the end I feel that all of my positive expectations were met and none of the bad came to fruition. I was very pleased.

I'm so glad I finally have my hands on this! This is easily one of my top favorite Disney movies. In my opinion all the old Disney movies were the best! It was worth the price because I now have the dvd, blue ray, and digital safely in my Disney collection. 5+stars for the Diamond Edition.

Another eventful day in the life of Jack Bauer, who's in a race against the clock to save the world while simultaneously staying on the run from the CIA. Set four years after the '24' finale, the heroic agent-turned-fugitive puts his freedom on the line by coming out of hiding in London to try and prevent a major terrorist attack.

Possibly the best 24 season yet.

When I heard that 24 was going to come back for a short season (and hopefully more) I was very excited but also worried because I didn't think that it was possible to top the ending of the 8th season. I am a very big 24 fan and can say that this is one of the best seasons, if not the best. 24 Live Another Day started out a little slow but got intense extremely fast. The ending was the best ending 24 has ever has in my opinion. This is a must buy for 24 fans.

The BEST Marvel Studios since The Avengers
on November 30, 2014
Posted by: Ctron84
Verified Purchase:Yes
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is not only a great sequel but perhaps the best standalone Marvel Studios film to date. Trust me, I don't say that lightly. I wasn't overly fond of the Captain's first feature, and my reaction to most of the Marvel Studios films has been mixed. With that in mind, coming out of the theater I have to say 'The Winter Soldier' isn't only a great superhero movie, a great standalone Marvel Studios film, but that Captain America: The Winter Soldier may even be better than The Avengers!
At the start of the film Steve Rogers (AKA Captain America) is still acclimating to modern life after having been frozen since WWII, and is working under the orders of Nick Fury and SHIELD. Already having doubts about SHIELD's motives and methods Rogers suddenly finds himself at the center of a conflict festering at the heart of SHIELD and must fight alongside other agents to stop a villainous plot to establish a new world order. Along the way he'll have to face a dark figure which may be connected to his past and decide what freedom truly stands for.
The Winter Soldier is arguably the smartest Marvel Studios film to date. While still providing the fantastical set-pieces, humor, and over the top action spectacles one would expect from a Marvel film The Winter Soldier's antagonist is grounded in real-world fears, and possibilities. For this reason I felt more invested in the film's action than any other Marvel film to date. While movies like The Avengers and the first Iron Man were fun superhero romps The Winter Soldier actually feels like it is addressing real-world concerns regarding government secrecy and drone warfare in a way which made me feel invested in the characters, and the stakes they were up against. The decision to make it an internal, spy-movie type struggle also quelled any questions like "Where the rest of The Avengers?!" While that constantly bothered me in Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 I never asked that during The Winter Soldier because the nature of the villain makes it believable that most of the film's events are covered up and kept from the other heroes' knowledge.
Then there's Rogers himself who truly defines himself as a superhero in this film. In his first outing and The Avengers Captain America always seemed like a wet blanket, coming across as a giant flag draped Boy Scout. While he was likable enough he never warranted in-depth analysis. That all changes in The Winter Soldier. Here Rogers' reflects on his past, question his own values and whether or not he can uphold them in this cloak and dagger modern world. He is a fish out of water and he knows it. His commitment to remain true to the values that carried him through WWII becomes his character's greatest strength rather than holding his character back. Through clever writing, and tender character moments The Winter Soldier transformed Steve Rogers into quite possibly my favorite character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (sorry Tony Stark).
What ultimately sets the Captain's new adventure apart from other Marvel Studios films is that The Winter Soldier is the first standalone Marvel movie since the original Iron Man I've felt actually stood proud on its own two feet. It features everything we know and love about this universe without feeling burdened by references other Marvel Studios films. While Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World had me saying "Can't wait to see the next Avengers" The Winter Soldier had me leaving the theater saying: "I can't wait to see the next /Captain America/ movie!"
For this reason I am giving my full recommendation for Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Not your usual Sleeping Beauty
on November 30, 2014

Maleficent is a remake of the Disney classic "Sleeping Beauty." I assumed that I knew what it was going to be about but, it turned out to be a totally unpredictable and amazing movie. Maleficent is about a betrayed fairy (Angelina Jolie) that curses the king's infant daughter Aurora as revenge. She soon discovers that when Aurora grows up, she is the only one who can restore the peace and happiness that everyone needs to get them out of the depression caused by revenge and war. This movie takes "Sleeping Beauty" and turns it into a completely different movie.
By far, this is the best Disney movie I've seen and one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. Everything is just right. For example, the music sets the right mood in every scene. It is strong and loud when it needs to be and quite and shy at other times and, at certain points, it is playful and happy. It really pulls the whole movie together. Along with the jaw-dropping music, this movie has amazing actors starting with Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning (Auora). They fit each role perfectly almost as if they were born for these roles.
This movie is very interesting to watch because it isn’t entirely based on "Sleeping Beauty" so you get to see a completely different side of Maleficent before she becomes the villain that she is known as. Throughout the movie I found myself wanting the movie to go quicker to see what would happen next but not wanting it to end anytime soon. I think that the director Robert Stromberg and the writers Linda Woolverton and Charles Perrault really outdo themselves with this movie because I cannot stop obsessing about how great it is.
I give this movie 5 out of 5 perfect stars and recommend it for ages 9 to 18. To be honest, this movie is a movie that you should be sure not to miss because IT IS THAT GOOD!

Everything changes in a Flash

Great story and reason for the reboot. It's the bridge between Pre-52 and New 52 and serves as the explanation as to why it happened. The story itself is entertaining, the twist in characters is also very entertaining and it flows nicely. Although to fully understand the tension between some characters you'd have to buy the other ones but they're not necessary.
Definitely recommend.

It was a great, yet short, read. Effectively sets the tone for the movie and tells a very interesting origin story. There could have been more Godzilla but there was enough to keep me going.
