Small and mighty!

My initial attraction to this awesome Bluetooth speaker is the fact that it departs from the typical soda can looking Bluetooth speakers that are out there and provides a cool, vintage-vibe looking speaker that supports Marshall's legacy as an excellent speaker and amplifier company as well as providing incredible audio out of a speaker at this price point.
As is typical of Marshall consumer audio-products like their Bluetooth headphones, this speaker includes all the fun quirks of the brand. All of the speaker interaction sounds that go with powering the speaker on-off etc. are little guitar riffs and other electric guitar sounds. That is fun and sets this speaker apart from other run-of-the-mill speakers. The multi-control knob is fluid for skipping songs, increasing the volume, and turning the device on and off with a separate button solely committed to Bluetooth connectivity (this utilizes Bluetooth 5.0). The rubberized, textured feel of this speaker feels high quality--absolutely a cut above the competition. This speaker feels like it could take a tumble from a height no problem and live to play another day--not that I was willing to toss this on the ground to test that assumption!
A neutral observation to note with this speaker. It is Bluetooth connection only. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack, so be aware of that. Other speakers in the Marshall lineup certainly have 3.5mm headphone jacks. My opinion on this is that, for one, the higher waterproof rating (IPX7) is achieved with the exclusion of this jack as it is, by design, a higher-likely point of ingress for moisture than the strict USB-C this speaker utilizes for charging. None-the-less, if you are looking to use this speaker in conjunction with a 3.5mm audio input device like a vintage iPod (how crazy to have to say that!), an Echo Dot, etc.
The sound. The sound the sound. Oh how I love the sound of this speaker. I have review a lot of Bluetooth speakers. So when I turned this on and put on my audio testing playlist, trust me when I say I was astonished by the sound! The two 2" 10 watt speakers produce incredible highs, great mids, and respectable bass notes out of a speaker of this size and build. Furthermore, their claim to a 360 degree sound I feel is accurate. I tested this speaker in different spaces throughout my house, and I found that the sound had an even reverberation and tonality through the space it was placed in. The speaker gets LOUD too. Definitely could be a respectable audio source for a houseboat party float, backyard bash, etc.!
One last cool little feature I wanted to mention is the charge level indicator located on top of the device. This is my first speaker to have a clear and constant visual indicator of how much battery charge is remaining which is really neat! I cannot speak to the claim of a 20 hour runtime, only that that is based on the power demand of the device and that Marshall almost certainly tested that runtime at a fixed volume, probably in the midrange. Thus, higher will drain the speaker faster, lower slower, etc.
Overall, I think the price for the value of the product you are getting with this little Emberton speaker is awesome. I highly recommend it if you are someone who is as concerned with the looks of an audio device as you are its features and sound!

A Toothbrush for the Gods
on August 8, 2020

from Central Point, OR
If toothbrushes were cars, this toothbrush from Oral B would fall somewhere in the same category as a Tesla Model S. It is sleek, technologically advanced, and overall is featured and sold as a package indicating that Oral B means business!
First of all, why would one spend this much money on a toothbrush? It really comes down to personal preference and the value one puts on their oral health. I know that personally, when I consider a copay I had recently for wisdom tooth extraction was $600, spending this much on a toothbrush for something that will provide me preventative oral health management for years to come does not seem too far a stretch. Additionally, if one puts a lot of value on technological advancement, the features this toothbrush has with the Oral B health to help promote your oral health through real-time 3D mapping of the mouth, brushing patterns, habits, etc. are just incredible.
For example, the app is setup very similar to the Fitbit app, in which it tracks your brushing habits, occurrences, time spent, etc. and will reward badges according to achievements and tracks the metrics so one can identify their weak areas of brushing that may need to be improved. For example, my girlfriend in using this toothbrush in collaboration with the app discovered that she had a couple areas of her mouth she was consistently missing in her brushing pattern.
Now aside from the app, this toothbrush as it stands by itself is featured very well. Its LED screen is colorful with a good, legible font that allows one to scroll and choose settings with ease. It has seven different brushing modes if my memory serves, one of which is a sensitive mode. My girlfriend loves this model of toothbrush for this reason. She has always found lower-tier toothbrushes to be too aggressive and painful to brush with. With the sensitive setting on this toothbrush, she can tolerate it with no problems at all.
At this price-range, the toothbrush comes with additional accessories that help to justify the price. It comes with 4 total brush heads. If one follows ADA recommendations for replacing toothbrushes, this is a year supply. Replacement heads from Oral B for this model to my research are running somewhere around $30 for a two pack of replacement heads at the time of this write-up. These are expensive compared to my previous Oral B 1000's brush heads that ran about $5-7 dollars for a replacement head, but in proportion to the overall price of the toothbrush, it makes a little more sense. The other accessory that I really like is the included rechargeable travel case. It appears easy to clean and includes a separate charging cable for the case, enabling one to leave the main magnetic charging toothbrush for the base back at home while on the go. The only missed opportunity here by Oral B is that I wish the case had a USB-C plug-in. USB-C power delivery can provide plenty of power the recharging of a toothbrush like this and would have provided much more convenience. The included charging cable for the travel case is proprietary and would definitely be annoying to replace if left behind during one's travels.
Overall, I think that for those who believe that the end's justify the means (or expense) or that honestly have the income or independent wealth to justify a oral health tool such as this, the purchase of this toothbrush is a no-brainer. Thanks for reading this review and I hope this helps guide your purchasing decision!

This is my second Hoover ONEPWR system product that I own, and I just have to say I am continuing to be impressed by the quality and utility of this lineup of products from Hoover! I have the handheld leafblower that included a 4.0Ah battery (twice the capacity of the 2.0Ah battery included with this vacuum, albeit somewhat heavier) and I am super impressed with this little handheld vacuum.
I can’t say enough good things about this. It is lightweight and very easy to maneuver in tight spaces and above or below one’s midline while vacuuming. It is actually impressively powerful, sucking up the baked-on dogfood on my truck’s floormat with ease and with the included attachments is as versatile for cleanup and tidying up jobs as it is easy to use. I really like the extended length tip that has the flip-into-place brush for cleaning my truck. Getting into cupholders, those annoying spots right at the sides of the seats that carwash vacuums can never reach (you know what I am talking about) is easy with this thing. Those annoying minor spills or accidents of crunched cereal under the dinner table or flour spills no longer requiring breaking out the broom or full-sized vacuum with this thing! Call me lazy, but I am a male who maintains a beard--trimming it often—and I love just vacuuming up the stray hairs on the sides of the sink that are causalities of my trimming. Super convenient!
The included 2.0Ah battery is great, but what is neat about these ONEPWR products is you can go for a larger battery to increase runtime or if you have other ONEPWR tools that have batteries charged up while you are waiting for the included battery to charge. I put my leafblower’s 4.0Ah battery on this vacuum and sure enough it worked without issue!
The utility and cleanup of this vacuum is absolutely excellent. The dirt cup is of reasonable size and is easy to empty out. The filter is easily removed and can be washed under tapwater and left to dry.
I think this vacuum is further evidence that Hoover is making a lineup of products that are intended to be easy to use, have a long service life, and are meant to be versatile. I highly recommend this vacuum, especially if you are interested in the other ONEPWR products in the lineup as I am and can benefit from the utilitarian excellence of these products!

Great, balanced headphones with handy features!

To start with, I want to make it clear that I am a Tech Insider Network member and I received the headphones free of charge from Best Buy. Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews.
While this might make one think that my review will be skewed, I actually feel I am in a unique position to review this item since I did not make an emotionally charged purchase.
Altogether I would identify these headphones as a top buy for those interested in noise canceling headphones that are as adaptive as that very feature by which they are identified. For an over-the-hear headphone, I am awed by the features here. First of all, there are 13 levels of noise cancelation that are toggled with a dial on the outside of the left ear cup. You can go from complete active noise cancelation mode, essentially blocking out everything, gradually letting more noise in until you hit an amplified listening mode where you can tune into conversations or hear someone if they are talking to you with ease. This will be nice on a plane when you are listening to your music and they begin coming through with the meal and drink carts. No need to pause the music and take off the headphones, just toggle it so you can hear the questions. Volume is controlled with a physical dial on the outside of the right ear cup. I love this feature as I really dislike how with other headphones I’ve used, you end up blindly trying to recall which tiny button or gesture on the headset control which and whether you have to click or hold etc. This headset makes it easy. Pausing the music is achieved with a simple tap on the outside of the right ear cup so you can quickly stop your music and then get right back to it effortlessly. The built-in microphone is great, allowing you to interact with Cortana, the smart assistant for Microsoft and navigate music etc. with you voice. I also carried out a one-hour phone call with a family member walking all over my 1400sq. ft condo away from my phone with no loss of clarity or drops in audio. On the note of connection, I have found this headset pairs effortlessly with my iPhone, MacBook Pro, and my Surface Go 2 without any issues. I have found that it automatically pairs with the last device you had it paired to, so be aware of that.
As for the audio, one of the most important aspects of any headphones, I have found out of the box that these offer a balance of treble, mid, and bass frequencies without any emphasis strongly in one direction or another. The drivers are not going to rattle your skull when listening to dubstep, nor are they going to shred your eardrums with hypersonic level treble notes.
For other features, they included a USB-C charging cable (and the headphones came mostly charged out of the box, yay!), a 3.5mm audio cable for those that prefer a hardwired connection option, and a nice hard shell case that keeps your precious headphones safe and secured. I have spent about 5 hours total with these headphones listening to music and one hour of which was an active phone call with audio and mic use, and the headphones are showing more than 73% remaining. This aligns with the boasted 20-hour total listen time on one charge and is stated to recharge in less than 2 hours! Not bad.
Altogether, I am surpassingly happy with these headphones and they have definitely found a place in my audio device lineup. Microsoft definitely has improved over the original Surface headphones at a 100-dollar lower price to boot! With how comfortable they are, I am seeing future flights going a lot smoother with these suckers on my head. Hope this review helps give you some info and confidence, thanks for reading!

A perfect addition to my Surface Go 2!

To start with, I want to make it clear that I am a Tech Insider Network member and I received this type cover free of charge from Best Buy. Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews.
While this might make one think that my review will be skewed, I actually feel I am in a unique position to review this item since I did not make an emotionally charged purchase.
With that information in mind, I just want to convey how impressed I am with this type cover. I have had many tablets, and I have purchased quite a few different Bluetooth keyboards and keyboard cover options in the past in order to try to simulate the experience of operating a laptop as best as possible. This Signature type cover from Microsoft is an excellent example of what happens when I company designs accessories for its own hardware. The fit, finish, interaction, attachment, and features of this cover are EXCELLENT in correlation with the Microsoft Surface Go 2 I also received from Best Buy.
Every feature you could want is present in this type cover. The attachment to the magnetic port of the tablet is certain and effortless, adding in seconds a custom fit, thin (but not too thin) large (but not too large) keyboard and touchpad that allows you to take full advantage of the Windows 10 experience at your fingertips.
My top favorite features of this keyboard are that is has what appears to be 2 or 3 different levels of backlighting for the keys so you can type in a dark environment with ease or turn it off when the extra lighting and consequent power draw is unnecessary. The touchpad to my knowledge uses Windows Precision drivers and is accurate and easy to use in navigating the Windows 10 environment of this tablet. The touchpad itself is a springboard type tablet with physical spring feedback for the right and left clicks on the bottom of the touch pad. However, it can be used with Windows gestures and multiple finger taps, allowing you to navigate and select without actually having to “click” on the touchpad.
The feel and quality of the type cover itself is excellent, using Alcantara—the same material used for console, seat, and arm rest covers in supercars like the Bugatti Veyron. It is soft and feels very comfortable for the typing experience. My only concerns would be how it holds up to grease or oil stains from sweaty wrists and also how it seems to have an affinity for picking up crumbs and pencil shavings. Keep it wiped down and I think these concerns won’t be an issue at all.
Altogether, I would dare call this an essential accessory to enhance the experience of the Surface Go 2 and add full utility to its usage. Thanks for reading and good luck with your purchase!

Excellent blend of a tablet and a laptop!
on July 9, 2020
Posted by: Bren

To start with, I want to make it clear that I am a Tech Insider Network member and I received this tablet free of charge from Best Buy. Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews.
While this might make one think that my review will be skewed, I actually feel I am in a unique position to review this item since I did not make an emotionally charged purchase.
To begin with, I think it is important to recognize that this specific tablet in the Microsoft Surface Go 2 lineup is probably the minimum-speced choice I would go with for anyone that expects to be able to multitask on this device. The 8gb of 1867mHz speed RAM is the MINIMUM needed to yield a smooth, stutter free experience on a full Windows desktop device like this—4gb ram is anemic in today’s computation world and it is almost a disservice that companies are still offering that little RAM on higher end devices. The storage this offers in the form of 128gb of onboard storage from a Toshiba BG4 SSD with read speeds of 1400mb/s and write of 800mb/s according to my testing is not bad! The real chokepoint of this device I would say is the 2-core, 4-thread Intel Pentium processor. While it is not the slowest processor to be utilized in a Windows tablet, it is definitely going to be the culprit behind any slow Operating System speed and program launch/navigation slowness detectable to the user. Altogether though, this trim of the Surface Go 2 will surpass the expectations of most everyday users. Now let’s talk more about how I think the use experience is.
First of all, to get the full laptop-like experience out of this, I think that a keyboard is almost mandatory. I have been using the Microsoft Surface Go signature type cover that Microsoft also sent me and I have been nothing but impressed by it. As a matter of fact, it is what I am typing this review on right now. The tablet functionality of the Surface 2 Go is great but to fully utilize the Windows OS a keyboard is the best way to take advantage of it. 2nd, for those who want to get the most out of the tablet functionality of this device, a pen such as the Microsoft Surface Pen is going to greatly enhance that experience. Finally, the IO on this device is minimal in the form of one 3.5mm headphone/speaker jack, a USB-C port, the charging port, and a micro-SDXC port. Thus, to get full usage out of it, I would recommend a USB-C port expander or dock if you need more port needs than what is offered on the device. As for the device itself, I think from the hinge on kickstand, to the Windows Hello log-in feature (similar to face-ID on Apple iOS), to the beautiful bright 1920X1280 screen (with appropriate bezels for being able to use as a tablet without having accidental-touches), this thing is just great to use. It really is so many rungs above other tablets on the ladder of tablet hierarchy.
Where does this tablet fit into the workflow/use case of a potential user at its price point and functionality? I think really it is for someone who really needs the portability or actual features of a 10.5inch tablet with full Windows 10 accessibility who needs a laptop secondarily. The reasoning for this is that at the price point of this device with the additional purchase of a Surface Go type cover, there are faster, better featured Windows laptops. As such, I would highly recommend a prospective buyer look at whether they need a tablet, a laptop, or something like this that performs moderately well in both roles. A tip I want to offer is that this tablet comes loaded with Windows 10 S, a sort of truncated, Windows-app-only version of Windows 10, so when you are ready to download Google Chrome and other non-Windows suite apps and programs, you will have to take a minute to switch to the normal version of Windows 10—not too difficult but a step that must be taken none-the-less.
Overall, I think this is an incredibly well built, quality device and will certainly make a good purchase for those who meet criteria I outlined above.

A great juicer, get's the job done!

I love this thing! It has been great from setup, to use, to especially cleanup. The messiness of juicing has often precluded me from wanting to use a juicer in the past, but this JusSimple juicer makes it easy with the dishwasher-safe blade. I was watching a YouTube video on some juicing recipes and I noticed that I did not have to chop my vegetables into as small of pieces as the demonstration showed since this has such a wide chute. Overall, I am impressed with what I have received and I highly recommend it!
Pros:
Easy to setup
Easy to clean
Good, consistent juicing
Cons:
None that I have determined yet!

Best Portable SSD for high-end PCs!
on April 30, 2020
Posted by: Bren
from Central Point, OR
I will just start by saying that from the price to the build quality to the performance, this drive obviously does not reflect your average portable drive. This drive is meant for the dedicated content creation professional or hardcore gamer, someone who demands top performance out of their equipment. In my opinion console users should skip; I fully detail why below.
My test platform for this drive was my custom gaming and content creation PC with a 2019 Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING motherboard with a USB 3.1 Gen 1 USB-C connection. Thus, I did not even come close to the 2000MB/s read/write speeds this drive can achieve through a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface. With my USB 3.1 Geb 1 interface, according to CrystalDiskMark7 I achieved a SEQ1M write speed of 1061MB/s and a write speed of 1019MB/s. What this means is that the bottleneck to achieving the top advertised speeds of this drive is my USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface and not the drive! I also tested the read/write speed of this drive over a USB 3.0 connection using the included USB-C to USB-A cable and had a read of 464MB/s and write of 465MB/s, once again demonstrating the bottleneck is in the connection and not the drive. Another test I performed was the copying of a 10GB folder from my Crucial P1 NVMe M.2 SSD drive in my computer to the WD P50 drive via the USB-A 3.0 and USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 connections I have available. Via USB-A 3.0, the drive copied the folder over at a sustained average rate of 340MB/s with no dips and over USB-C 3.1 Gen 1, I had a sustained average transfer rate of nearly double USB-A 3.0 at 600MB/s with no dips.
The summary of all of this is basically that this drive is going to absolutely knock the socks off any tasks that you throw at it for the average use case and with the connection via USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, this thing is going to be as blazing fast as an average NVMe SSD connected to a motherboard via M.2 connection.
All the numbers aside, the build quality of the drive itself is just incredibly high level. The WD Black series from Western Digital is something I have come to associate with high quality in general, and this drive continues to prove that. It is encased in a forged aluminum cover and to touch feels well-regulated in its temperature with sustained transfers during my testing. It has the toughness that would have me feeling secure about tossing it into my backpack and heading to the coffee shop without concern for its integrity. Furthermore, being an SSD, this drive has no moving parts unlike a standard portable HDD and thus will be even further suited to portability. For my use case, this is going to be a backup drive to my main drive on my gaming PC and will be partitioned for some of my photo and video editing projects and as a secondary Steam library folder for my games where load times are important (like Fallout 4, lol).
The only thing I will say in way of consideration for the buyer is that this drive CAN be used by current gen console users, but that doesn’t mean it SHOULD as a first or top choice. The problem is that current gen consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One X are not going to even come close to getting the full use out of this drive due to bottlenecking by the consoles’ USB-A connection interface. Thus, the money would likely be wasted here for most console gamers looking for expandability for their console game libraries. Console gamers would be better off with a larger portable hard drive like a WD Easystore or something along those lines. When the new consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X come out in 2020-2021, however, there might be justification for use of higher end portable SSDs like this WD Black P50 for library expansion since the read/write speeds won’t be as bottlenecked by the console/connection interface.
Overall, I am incredibly impressed with this drive and I cannot recommend it enough if this is something you are in the market for a high-end Windows PC or Apple PC. Hope this review helped you out and thanks for reading.

A next level fan best used with the Dyson App!
on April 21, 2020
Posted by: Bren
from Central Point, OR
It is hard to know exactly where to begin but suffice it to say that this is honestly one of the most unique and fully featured multi-function fans I have seen. To call it a fan is coarse, really, as it is much much more than just a fan. It humidifies, purifies, and all around circulates air in a way that you have to feel and smell more than just read about.
As a fan, it excels. It has 10 different speeds of fan strength and can also be set to a backward airflow mode to simply humidify and purify the air in your room(s) without cooling; very useful for the colder months. It also has an auto mode so it can increase and decrease the speed to filter and maintain air purity. Furthermore, it has a nighttime mode that turns the fan down to a quieter setting and dims the screen so has not to disturb you in the dark. It has three oscillation modes: 45º, 90º, and my favorite, breeze mode which imitates an indirect to direct shifting breeze just like if you were sitting out on your favorite patio chair on a breezy afternoon.
As a purifier, this thing is fully speced out. I won’t needlessly copy and paste all of the specific filter specifications, but I will say that the real time number read out both on the actual screen of the device and on the smartphone app is awesome for knowing how your air purity is doing; I included some screen shots to show what that info looks like on the application. The app is also helpful as it lets you know how your air filter is doing on efficacy and when you will need to replace it. I am not sure how accurate this will actually be or whether it will just be used to make you buy relatively expensive filter replacements more often than is truly needed, but I am trusting it as a useful guide to know when to start thinking about replacement. Beyond just purifying the air that flows in and out of this machine, they even use an ultraviolet cleanse technology to kill bacteria in the water that is used for humidification.
As a humidifier, this has some of the best listed features I have seen to maintain the humidity in the spaces this machine influences. As I mentioned above, the water that gets aerosolized for humidification is exposed to ultraviolet light to kill bacteria. Additionally, this machine unlike other competitors aerosolizes the water to such a small size that they cannot carry germs. There is no mist that comes out of the machine, so it is safe to be in close proximity to moisture sensitive items like books. The humidification can be adjusted by percentage to meet your needs (awesome for a room where, for example, one might keep wooden instruments sensitive to humidity range) and it has an automatic mode to maintain the humidity. Mine is set to maintain 50% and turns on and off the humidifier function accordingly to maintain this. The 1-gallon water reservoir is generous and easy to remove and fill with water. The specs state that in auto mode, the tank can give you roughly 15 hours depending on the humidity levels of your rooms. For example, the outside air is about 57% in my area in the Spring right now, so the auto mode probably would last many more hours. I haven’t had the fan on long enough in one straight go yet to test this. An additional cool feature the app has is that you can choose whether your water is hard, soft, or in between, and it will tell you how many hours of humidification you can go before needing to do a deep clean cycle. On hard water, it is looking like 650 hours or so is how long I have to go. The machine is able to do this clean cycle itself with the use of citric acid powder that they include three cycles worth of in the box! The instructions on how to do this are included right on the reservoir and can be looked up online too, so don’t worry that you won’t be able to figure it out.
This is the fan for the modern-minded individual who is comfortable with electronics and enjoys the ability to use applications on their phone and smart assistants like Siri and Alexa to control their electronics. The Dyson app connected to this fan super smoothly as I followed the instruction prompts and now has given me total real-time control of this fan. Even with just the included remote, the fan is great and will benefit anyone interested in its use!
Overall, I cannot recommend this machine enough. Thanks for reading and I hope it helps to get you excited about the awesome purchase you are about to make!

As a single guy living on my own, I try to keep things pretty neat in my living space. I don’t make too many messes, but I do still have hardwood floors and linoleum bathroom and laundry room flooring that need swept and mopped on a regular basis. This Vacmop is like the ultimate time saver. The vacuum function is quite peppy and makes quick work of stray crumbs and lint. The vacuum is not loud or high-pitched sounding as I expected either. If I had napping kids or babies in another room, I would not be concerned about waking them up with the noise level of this vacmop. The mop function of the included pads is robust and works really well to wipe up muddy boot prints in the laundry room and to cleanup other miscellaneous messes. The vacmop pads are interesting in that they are an all in one disposable dust-bin (for the vacuuming) and mop pad. So essentially, when the dust bin gets full and/or the mop pad gets saturated and dirty, it means it is time to replace the pad.
The only concerns I will have in the long term of using this is how affordable the vacmop pads and the mop fluid are as well as how well the rechargeable battery holds up over time. I do prefer the internal rechargeable battery to the batteries you have to replace in a traditional Swiffer mop, though.
Overall, for the price and the flexibility and utility of this little vacmop, I am impressed. Definitely a nice tool for cleanup of quick messes or the maintenance of smaller, hard-flooring abodes like my bachelor pad condo!

What is the RPM of the 1 terabyte hard drive?

7200rpm, much better than the 5400rpm hard drive found in my $1600.00 MSI Stealth Pro :(
