The nature of rechargeable batteries

I'm very surprised as I read these reviews slamming any iRobot device for battery life. This is the nature of rechargeable batteries. For something that runs virtually empty and then fully recharges every day, anyone who thinks they should get more than 8 months of life on the battery simply doesn't understand how rechargeables work. I have been fortunate and gotten a full year out of roomba batteries on occasion. (at present I have 2 560s, one 780, and two scoobas (the big one and the small one--can't remember the model numbers) If you're getting less than 8 months, then you're not fully draining the battery on a regular basis, and/or you're not charging it fully and then leaving it on the charger until the next usage. For all those of you complaining about your dirt dogs, I'm in the market for a used one for my basement. I'd be happy to take them off your hands.

Short-lived Batteries

The iRobot performed as advertised and I impressed my friends with it until the battery weakened. It only lasted about 8 months and died. I will replace it once, but not a second time. Too expensive! I would recommend it to a friend with a warning about the battery.

Cons: Short Life

LOVE IT .I HAVE 4, NO WORK INVOLVED. CHARGE THE BATTERY PACK ,AND THE ROMBA DISCOVERY DOES ALL THE WORK. MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THE BATTERIES DON'T LAST LONG ENOUGH,BUT I WOULDN'T WANT TO DO WITHOUT MINE.

It works ok we use it to get the constant cat & dog hair off the floor. Both pets are afraid of it when its doing its thing so they stay in there beds.. Helps cut down on the hair they spread !!

Enjoy the iRobot but have to wait until the battery is cheaper to purchase another unit for replacement.

Lasted two years - very happy!

My Roomba 400 Series stopped holding a charge recently. I assume I need a new battery, since this happened before. I went back to my records and realized it has been two years since I bought the last replacement battery. That is longer than any appliance with a replaceable NiMH battery I've every owned. And I get so much good use out of this Roomba. I suspect the negative reviews are aimed at driving down the price (which hasn't budged since the last time I purchased so that's decent). Where I live, [$] gets you about half a cleaning lady for one day. So I'm delighted to pay this amount once every two years to the geniuses at iRobot. :-)
Pros: Good Value, Long Lasting
