I like gadgets

I use this Roomba a bit because I have a dog in my place! Because He sheds a bit. I like how the machine goes around the room and the corners, you have to keep loose cords and other things off the floor in order to have a good cleaning job done though. If you take good care of the Roomba and follow the cleaning and storage instructions, there's no reason why anything should not work. I made the mistake of not having the power plugged in when not in use as this depleted the battery use time and shorts the battery life. The only thing I thought that wasn't great about it was how noisy it seems when its cleaning. The noise is not excessive but just sounds like it.
Pros: Easy To Empty, Easy To Use, Efficient, Lightweight
Cons: A Bit Pricey, Noisy

Poor performance

I've had a similar experience to what others are saying about the battery's short life. What's puzzling is that this is most likely the very same battery that's supplied in a new Roomba. That's why I bought it. The only explanation is that by the time the original battery dies the Roomba itself is worn out and the extra friction from worn parts is draining the new battery. So perhaps we should be asking for a longer lasting Roomba and not a longer lasting battery.

The cleaning units are costly enough but the price gouging on the replacement batteries is just unacceptable. The cost would be tolerable if the quality was there... these batteries Do Not Last to justify the cost. I was only using the roomba cleaning unit for kitchen and laminate hardwood floors and still wouldn't hold the charge to finish cleaning and wont hold or continue to take a charge

Easy on the back, hard on the wallet

Great concept. Fun product. Terrific for the multi-tasking, hates-to-clean person with a bad back. BUT you need deep pockets to keep replacing the way too short-lived battery.

great concept, but too expensive. Batteries costs half the purchase price of unit and don't last long. Has trouble going over rugs with fringe. Loud. Really a pain to clean. Brushes get wrapped up in hair and quickly don't work.

Price of new battery = half an iRobot?

My robot has served me well for 10 months, keeping my bare floors tidy from dog hair and kids crumbs and hair/toy accessories. But I was disappointed to see that a new battery was so expensive to replace, now that mine does not hold the charge anymore. I know have to consider buying a new product instead of investing a lot more money into this cleaner.

Why not a longer life? Overcharging?

I love the dirt dog. Great for hard floors. The battery that comes with it is a joke. This battery works well, but for less than a year, and then it needs replaced. Why is that? I know batteries run down over time, they all do, but this one seems to die sooner than most. Maybe when it sits on the home base, and whenever you touch it the battery is warm. Is the home base overcharging it? Maybe it's just needs a smarter charger? I'd pay for a smarter charging base if it meant the batteries would last 2-3 years... Oh well...

Battery is outrageously expensive. Too easy to fowl it up if you don't let it discharge all the way. Consumers need things to be easy and don't have time for these silly rules. Make your products fool proof. I am on my 3rd battery and don't use this very much.
