Great Battery (Just remember to reset!)

People who are rating this battery as less than stellar are apparently NOT resetting the battery regularly (about once every 6 months). Remember to READ your instructions about how to prolong battery life!!! You need to reset the battery by taking it OUT of the Roomba, then pressing the START button for at least 20 seconds, then running the Roomba and until the battery is completely discharged, then repeat the process 1-3 more times. This works to recharge the battery and extend its life.

REPLACEMENT BATTERY NEVER WORKS

This is NOT to drive the price down, as the only positive review I read said. This is to keep others from wasting their money on a replacement battery. I don't mind paying for anything IF IT WORKS! I've had Roombas for 12 years and now own 4. 3 are dead because the replacement batteries NEVER worked! Roombas are great out of the box, but worthless once the original battery went dead after about 3 years. I have bought 2 replacement batteries and neither one them worked for more than 5 feet from the charger. When contacted iRobot, their solution was to tell me to clean and reset Roomba, which I had told them I had already done. That was all the communication from them. My Mother also bought a replacement battery for her Roomba, which didn't work either, so now she doesn't bother replacing batteries. When it dies, usually 3 or 4 years, she buys a new Roomba and trashes the old one. There should be a trade in allowance on the old Roombas, like with used cars, since replacement batteries don't work.

WHAT !!!! BATTERY COSTS [$] WHAT A RIPOFF. ORIGINAL WAS A GIFT. JUST TOSSED IT IN THE GARBAGE. I COULD HIRE A CARPET CLEANER TO VACUUM FOR SEVERAL TIMES FOR LESS THAN THE COST OF THIS UNIT
Cons: Pricey / Poor Value, Short Life

WHAT A JOKE

Originally i was impressed with the Roomba performance, we basically use the unit as a room maintenance cleaner with both carpet and vinyl. Picked up cat hair my wife and daughters hair i thought it was really great. even bought a few more accessories, then it started the battery died with in about 6 months, so got another one needless to say i am now on my third battery within 2 yrs. You would think with the technology today that they could design a better quality battery.. I have cordless drills and such and not the top of the line either that get used regularly and i got batteries over ten yrs old that are still charging and holding a full charge, so therefore the knowledge is out there. Now since i am sure that Roomba is well aware of there battery issues that the replacement batteries should be really cheap, NOT!!! Because of the battery issue i would not recommmend this product to any one
Pros: Great when it works
Cons: Charges slowly, Inconsistent Performance, Pricey / Poor Value, Short Life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Don't give up on 400 series batteries!

Okay, we're talking about a battery here. It is too expensive, I think we all agree. I just read 114 reviews and everybody loves the Roomba but hates this battery. I was trying to decide whether to order a new battery or just do without my little iRobot until I could afford one of those wonderful-sounding 700 series. I have already done without it for several months because it was working for about 35 seconds and then begging to be fed. I then remembered I'd had the same problem before and had contacted iRobot about it. I didn't remember whether I had bought a new battery or not so I looked up my account on the iRobot site. Sure enough! The technical support guy told me what to do and the battery worked fine. So I followed his instructions again. (1) Take out the battery. (2) Press the power/clean button (not sure whether to press both so I did) for 5 seconds. (3) Then charge for 16 hours or until the light turns green which mine did after less than an hour. (I have the fast charger.) When I let it clean it worked perfectly for over 20 minutes. I think it would have worked longer if it hadn't worn itself out trying to clean the cat's favorite rug! I will replace the battery when this trick stops working. The little robot is just fine and I am in no hurry to replace it until I can afford one of those cool new ones!
Pros: Comes back from the dead, Fast Charge
Cons: Pricey / Poor Value

I loved it and it cleans efficiently but the battery doesn't last too long and to replace it is too costly. Too bad since it is a nice product but too costly to run.
Pros: Easy To Clean, Ergonomic, Good Power Output, Lightweight
Cons: Battery doesn't last, Battery too expensive
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
