battery too expensive to replace

I loved my Roomba for about 6 months. Then the battery died. We decided it is too expensive to replace. Very sad.

Poor Battery

Just want to thank all the reviewers for honest feedback about the battery. I've had my unit for 5 years but most of that time it sat unused in a closet. I replaced the battery once and it lasted only a few months. I thought I'd try again and after reading the reviews, decided it wasn't worth it.

another dead battery

I had used the Roomba happily for several months when the battery died while plugged in, awaiting its next use. I had also purchased some extra items to go with it and now will never use it again as the battery is far too expensive for the short life the battery seems to have.
Pros: Low Profile For Under Fur
Cons: Inconsistent Performance, Poor Battery Performance, Pricey / Poor Value, Short Life

Lasts well when you recharge correctly

Reviewers who complain about the short life of the battery have not learned about the special recharging procedure: Remove the battery, hold down the Power button for 30 seconds, reinstall the battery, and put Roomba back on the charging stand for at least 3 days without disturbing. I first learned this from another web site and later found similar advice on the iRobot support site. Following this procedure, I have made 3 batteries last for 4 and a half years, and one battery is still good. iRobot should make this advice more visible, because the batteries are much too expensive to discard after a few months.
Pros: Easy To Install, Good Power Output, Long Lasting
Cons: Charges slowly

I have had three irobots and have traded in a couple to upgrade. The two I have now Do Not Work. Batteries do not last very long. Too expensive to keep replacing batteries. I have recommend irobots to friends in the past, but I don't think I will do that anymore.

Battery life typical of NiMH type

A NiMH battery such as this will eventually suffer from "memory effect" if the battery is not completely discharged every time [i.e. run it until it dies]. If only partially discharged, the battery "remembers" only the discharged "storage space", and will only recharge that much. I have had my Discovery Series since Dec 2007, run it until it stops every time I use it, and I'm just about to order my first battery replacement. Laptops used to have the same problem until they switched to LiIon batteries.
Pros: Efficient, Great under beds, Saves my back
Cons: Battery life

Poor quality battery

got my roomba with this APS battery in Dec 2007. Sparingly used the roomba, about once a week initially, then couple of times a month. Now, 13 months later, it does not work.
Pros: NONE
Cons: Costs a lot for 50 uses, Custom battery, Does not last, Not reliable, Used about 50 times
