Battery too expensive to replace
on February 16, 2011

When I originally purchased the roomba I used it everyday. The original battery worked great until I didn't use it as often. I feel the reason it worked as well as it did was because of its being used and recharged everyday. I purchased a new battery when the original one died and in a very short time it stopped working even with following the instructions on how to reset it. I keep hoping the price will come down on the battery since the actual product is fantastic (the roomba) but with the battery costing as much as it does, there is no way I will purchase another one until it is (1) cheaper, much cheaper (2) improved so that it lasts more than a couple of weeks.
Cons: Short Life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love the Robot,hate the Battery

Love the Roomba for quick clean ups but replacing the battery is very costly and is necessary much too frequently. I'm beginning to wonder if the convenience of the Roomba is worth the expense. This will be my 3rd (and possibly last) replacement battery in 2 years. I will be unhappy to lose it but it just isn't worth the expense of battery replacements.
Pros: Easy To Clean
Cons: Weak Function

My first battery lasted over 2 years. The replacement lasted two cleaning cycles! I have notice that batteries that are made somewhere (not in the US)have serious issues. For example, rechargeable batteries for my camping laterns, died immediately. I ordered three new ones ($$) and they didn't work either.

Great Product with Rotten Battery Life

I love my Roomba, but was extremely disappointed at the short battery life of 10 months. The cost for a new battery makes the machine prohibitive. Why can't you come up with a more cost-effective battery? It is cheaper to run my old vacuum. If I recommend a Roomba to a friend, I would also tell her about the battery's short life and extreme cost.
Pros: Easy To Clean, Easy To Use, Ergonomic, Lightweight
Cons: Battery Life too short, Battery too expensive
I would recommend this to a friend!

Battery life is too short and expensive

I have 2 iRobot Roombas and I have replaced the batteries 4 times over the last 3 years. The Advanced Power System battery only lasts 30-45 minutes of continous usage per fully charged instead of the advertised of 1-2 hours. The same battery has a life of less than 1 year based on our experiences on those 4 battery replacements. The replacements costed us [...] per battery. It has becoming too expensive to keep these babies. As much as I love these roombas, they got to go to my donation box for someone else to enjoy ...
Pros: Easy To Clean, Good Power Output

Another Bankrupt Company?

Why have a review page if the company never reads these? It is obvious they do not, or the batteries would be excellent, they have had plenty of time! No excuse in the world can fix stupid! How is it that this company still exists? NO care for its customer base, no effort to improve the product, just steal people's money and let them sink in the cold. Who would recommend such a defective product from such a company?
Pros: Great concept, Needs a Company Takeover
Cons: Charges slowly, Inconsistent Performance, No Customer Service, No Tech Support, Poor Communication, Pricey / Poor Value, Short Life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Abysmal Battery

Between my elderly parents and myself we have two homes that total 6000-plus square feet of living space. Both of us purchased a Roomba Schedular to help me keep our floors tidy (tile, hardwood and carpet intermixed throughout) inbetween weekly central vacuum cleaning. I honestly can't complain about the job the Roomba does itself-- when the battery is new, that is--but the fact that the charge doesn't last long AND the battery is ready for the trash bin in about 6 mths makes this product too expensive to keep using. Granted, if I used each one we own collectively for 180 days in a row, I might be able to justify the $2.60 (rounded) daily cost per battery but I don't and I doubt they could handle that much usage to be honest given how often I've had to replace them thus far with only twice weekly cleaning duties. And yes, I've spoken to techs who say to allow the battery to completely run down before charging as well as taking the battery out and resetting the unit as others here have mentioned however I still don't get the longevity that I should. Honestly folks, it's simply not a product I would recommend to anyone given the Roomba's overall cost combined with the short performance life of these very ineffective and expensive batteries. I've even looked a newer models and the battery life complaints seem to follow those as well. The company really should listen to its customers who, know doubt, would remain loyal and continue to purchase newer models over time IF the batteries actually made it cost-effective to use. WAKE UP ROOMBA as word continues to travel throughout the Internet that these products don't measure up to the hype.
Pros: NONE
Cons: Inconsistent Performance, Pricey / Poor Value, Short Life

I ordered two new batteries a few months ago. Because of an illness in the family they were put away and not ever installed. Now when I want to use them, they will not charge. So I wasted my money. We have 4 robots. Two are rhoombas (we gave one to my daughter), one is a dirt dog, and one is a scooba. I used to LOVE the dirt dog and the rhoombas!!! They are GREAT! I have never liked the scooba. It doesn't clean well and leaves the floor wet. But the batteries are the worst. If they could improve the rhoomba batteries, I would be SO happy!!!
Cons: Pricey / Poor Value, Short Life
