Worked reliably for 10 years!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We used it for 10 years. It worked reliably.
We had to change the pump a few years ago - did this by ourselves, just bought a part and replaced it following the on-line instruction.
The freshness of the 'steam-dried' cloth cannot be even compared with traditional 'gas-dried' clothes!
Pros: ease of use, Performance, Quality
I would recommend this to a friend!

Is it possible to love a washing machine?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have to admit that based on some reviews I was very leery about purchasing this machine. I have three hairy dogs. I'm not a good laundry sorter. I'm more the toss that mixed up load of whatever into the machine and turn it on kind of a gal. I was afraid that I would never have dry clothes again. But the convenience of not moving a mountain of wet clothes from one machine to another, not neglecting to move a load to the dryer and thus having to re-wash the load, the space saving design and the thought of tossing a load in before I left for work and forgetting about it convinced me to give it a try. I could not be happier. My mixed loads of jeans, t-shirts and whatever dry perfectly. My clothes are soft and clean and they smell amazing when they come out of the machine. I don't know how I lived without it. I've even washed my nasty dog rugs and they come out clean and dry (okay I had to fudge and run a wash - bulky and then a dry cycle). An unexpected bonus - not one missing sock.
Pros: Style/Design, Performance, easy to use

So happy with this Combo!

When I bought my new condominium in 2010 it came with another brand of ventless combo washer/dryer that was much smaller, and much less quality. When the old one broke down, I was so pleased to upgrade to the LG. I've had the new LG almost three months now and I'm so pleased. I read every review, did lots of research, right out of the box, you can tell it's a quality build. I've owned traditional washer dryer separates, this one comes very close in capacity but the convenience of not having to move the clothes between machines - it's all in one. As other reviewers mention - you REALLY need to read the user manual. You must use correct "He" type detergent and softener. This model does have the separate bleach dispenser - which is the key feature why I went with this larger model over the slightly smaller LG. The smaller one does not have dedicated bleach dispenser. The key to performance with this type of combo is using it properly. Yes - you need to use a damp paper towel to wipe down the rubber gasket around the glass door - where lint accumulates. It takes 2 minutes. The reviewer who says he/she has lint all over the laundry did not read the manual. The reviewer who states you can't run just a dry cycle did not read the manual or call the super patient LG customer service. I couldn't figure out how to do it either the first day, was frustrated, but I I called LG, and the CSR was very patient - and obviously I was not the first person to ask this question. So yes you can absolutely run the dry cycle (spin/dry) by itself. And customer service was SUPER friendly.
If, like some other reviewers, you keep a large heavy load all in the dryer - yes it's going to take a ridiculously long time. The key to performance is following directions.
My experience is mixing it up a bit helps. For instance, I can do a winter flannel king sized bed top sheet, six flannel pillow cases, a half dozen pairs each of briefs and cotton/wool blend winter socks, all washed & dried at once. I do the bottom sheet separately with other smaller pieces. (With lighter percale sheets, I can do the whole bed set at once).
What helps: I have a drying rack and some hooks in the laundry room and I do what you're supposed to: take some stuff out for drying. The clothes in the dryer get dry, and excess heat gain from the machine in my laundry room dries everything on the rack at the same time. It's not in the instructions, but I've learned I can put one item, like sweatshirt or flannel lined jeans, draped across the top of the machine.... for gently drying with zero wrinkles.
What doesn't get completely dry? It's just me and my dog, so I can say for guy stuff, heavy cotton hoodies, blankets, cotton thermal/waffle weave clothing fabric, heavy flannel, will not dry completely on one 'normal' drying cycle. You can bump it up to 'more' dry, or take some out.
With some practice, this combo is fantastic. It is very pricey, but it's worth it. I bought an extra extended warranty just in case.
Lastly - this LG is nearly triple the capacity of my old combo - but uses half the energy and water. For the slight inconvenience of removing some items from the dry cycle - you're DRAMATICALLY lowering your energy consumption.
Highly recommend.

Poorly Designed - Stops working easily
on November 9, 2011

I am on my 2nd one of these machines (the first one was replaced by my service agreement after 14 months of trying to fix the machine - they replaced it with a new one). When they work well, they work amazing well!! Unfortunately, they are NOT designed to work well. I am thrilled that I bought a 5 year service agreement as it is clear I will need it.
The problem with the way the machine is built is there is no way for the consumer to empty lint from within. Thus, it turns out it builds up within the machine. The result is that the machine stops drying when the lint builds up.
I have this machine just over a year. Like with the previous one, at just over a year, I have had to call for service. When the tech came, he removed from the deepest parts of the machine a full cup of wet lint. This had stopped the machine from drying properly. I had to have a machine replaced a little over a year ago (same identical machine) due to the same problem but the service company could never figure this out and LG did not suggest this fix. The tech said this is the most common problem on these machines and that he sees a large number of service calls due to this.
IF you buy, you MUST buy a service warranty!
Pros: easy to use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This thing has given me nothing but problems! It has broke down several times! The drain hose broke ruining my wood floor! Then the drain pump failed and had to be replaced. Then the steam fan got glogged and had to be cleaned, the tech said it happens and nothing i can do but call for service regularly. And now it is not drying my clothes and had to be drained manually. Luckily i got an extended warranty, but this doesnt account for the hundreds of dollars i lost to take off of work to wait for the repair man. I plan on buying a new washer and dryer and taking a sledge hammer to this product! If i can keep one person from buying an LG product, my job is done!

DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE
on July 26, 2013

My wife and I bought this machine thinking it would save us time. We have four children under age 9, and we hoped this washer dryer would save us so much time. We thought we could do laundry at night and it would be done by morning. Well, we have had this machine for 1 year and we just had a repair person out for the fifth (5) time. This machine is one of the worst products we have ever owned! I am not a person that would have ever written a review, especially such a bad review, but I had to make an exception for this
machine. The WM3987, is the worst product we have ever. Had the displeasure owning! 3 times the pump burned out, 1 time the noise filter burned out, and two weeks later the main board burned out. And to top it off, every time it breaks down, we have to jump through hoops to get someone out to fix it! The first time it broke, we didn't have a washer for 4 weeks!! Save yourself the undue stress, and buy a different brand!

Poorly designed, needs service annually
on February 7, 2012

This product is designed without a lint trap, so the lint clogs inside and requires disassembly of the machine to repair. The first clue this is happening is not a warning indicator or error code (and there are plenty), but the unit just stops drying.
LG does not acknowledge the design defect or "fix" but plenty of owners do. Look online to find the same problem and the same frustration. DO NOT BUY.
Pros: none
