LOOKED VERY NICE AND ITS FUNCTIONS. Put Cartridge and it keep saying it has been instaled incorrectly..read manual twice more...I was doing right but still error message.. Defect from manufacturing. I should have opened it check it out rather then open up when I was going to use it.

Good Printer. scanner - BAD

I have been using the Epson WorkForce 520 for about 8 months, although not heavily. It was very easy to set up, including configuring it for my wireless router (just follow the installation instructions).
The 520 is a good, fast printer/copier (particularly for the price) with fairly high quality print, and it produces quite good scans. I have not tried the FAX. HOWEVER, THE AUTOMATIC DOCUMENT FEEDER IS ALMOST USELESS, and the main reason I bought it was for that feature. If the paper has any wrinkles or imperfections, or is not perfectly flat (as the little curl present after going through a laser printer), it jams, jams. jams. For this reason, I would NOT BUY IT AGAIN. For very light use scanning or copying (one or two pages at a time), and for the printer, the Workforce 520 works OK.
HOWEVER, the ink supply is extremely limited. I cannot believe how fast it ran out, and I do not do a lot of printing with it. To replace all of the ink cartridges costs more than I originally paid for the printer, which (I thought) was a very good deal. Not only is the replacement ink very expensive, I also learned that if both of the black cartridges run out of ink (according to the machine) you cannot add one black cartridge and have it work. The machine refuses to print unless BOTH black cartridges are replaced. My assumption is that the same would be true if one of the color cartridges is out (per the machine). In other words, I do not think it will print in black if one of the color cartridges is out even if both black cartridges are full. I intend to check on this and will report back later.
I would also note that printing color photos (on high quality Epson paper) do not provide the quality that my old printer (ANOTHER BRAND) did. Unfortunately that printer bit the dust a year or so ago, after functioning beautifully for over 10 years.
It is too bad that this printer has the flaws that it does. If the automatic document feeder worked, and if the ink were not so expensive, it would be a really good deal. But the way it is, I would not buy it again, nor would I recommend it to anyone. It is pretty bad when replacing one ink supply costs more than the cost of the printer. I will continue to use it until I find a better printer, but I am going to try a generic ink and see if it is half-way decent. Meanwhile, I am looking for a good stand-alone scanner that with a really good paper feeder.

The workforce 520 should be called the workhorse 520....it does everything you need it to do, and then some....very good copies....prints fast and clear...scanning is a breeze. I would recommend to any one for home or small office.

This printer has been fairly easy to use. The only difficulty I have encountered was setting up the faxing functions, which was a little confusing at first. The quality is good for the price.

Setting up the Epson was a breeze. Just takes a little time. I did have a hickup when I initially set it up. I couldn't find the electric cord in the box! It was a gift and had been a few months since it was purchased, so I wasn't sure if I could get one from the retailer. Luckily, we found an old one from another Epson printer no longer in use. Check your box contents right away to make sure everything's in there - lesson learned. But happy now. Great wireless convenience. Lovely print quality.
