Don't waste your money

I purchased this printer about a year ago and constantly have had problems with it. It constantly jammed and would not print clearly. If you want to print coupons, good luck. It's also really bulky. I finally purchased a different model and threw this one out.

Good Overall

I have had several Epson printers. Only had fair experience with the CX series but once I got to the XP 4** series that all changed. They seem to work better if you use them on a regular basis like 2-7 days per week. I don't and sometimes that causes printing issues and I need to run the head cleaning function. Other than this waste paper, time, and ink it usually works. I love the individual ink cartridges. I also like that I can order them from Epson for a just a little less than going to the store plus I usually get free shipping so no wasted gas for me. One of the things I found is that it is best to use the higher capacity cartridges. The other is that many people complain about ink usage. I found that the low ink warnings are just that for the first 2 warnings. I always wait until the 3rd warning before I change a cartridge unless I have a lot of printing to do or if it's after the 2nd warning and I need to run a head cleaning cycle. At that point I go ahead and change the cartridge since it will run a cleaning cycle as part of the ink charge cycle. The printer doesn't like cold very much. Most of my issues happen in the winter months when I keep the house cooler (68 degrees or less). The other is really low humidity. I lived in a very dry state and had to run the head clean function fairly regular. Since I have moved to a state with a lot more humidity this doesn't seem to happen as often. The scan feature is great albeit a little slow if you want to scan a lot of photos or documents. I have to admit that I do use a very old laser printer for most of my B&W only documents, such as tax documents, since it is cheaper to print just B&W with the laser printer.

Ther are two drawbacks to this printer. One is I have to clean the heads more often that other printers I've had before, the second is trying to get the paper to feed right when you put in a new supply, it either will not advance the paper or will jam up, after I get it working it is ok till the next time I need paper.

Uses too much ink!!!

Epson Nx420 doesn't print on Economy or "Draft" setting, only the Normal or Standard print which uses too much ink! Can't even select black only or greyscale to save color ink!
Print is to faint to read on all but the Normal setting.

I use my Epson NX420 daily and I have not experienced any printer problems. I had one problem with the Epson ink however, it caused a problem and it required me to run the clean function several times to get my printer to work correctly. . It was a bad ink cartridge. I do believe the ink replacement cartridges are over priced. They are not worth the cost at all; however, what choice do I have. I had problems in the past with generic inks and re-fill kits and it cost be a printer.
