Epson Stylus NX420 All-in-One Printer

I purchased this unit based on Epson's reputation for making outstanding printers. To that end, I was not disappointed. Scanner quality is also excellent. That said, there are also drawbacks. Let's examine both: PROS: Excellent print quality. Excellent scanner quality. Affordable price. CONS: Drinks ink. I've only printed maybe a half dozen text pages and one small photo, and already my black cartridge shows as half empty. WiFi problems. The WiFi feature was easy to set up, and the unit worked wirelessly with no problem - but it caused the loss of my internet connection. I can only connect to the internet if I connect the unit via USB (which thankfully I was able to do). By far the worst drawback is the fact You cannot use the unit if any of the ink cartridges are empty. Meaning if Your blue cartridge is empty, You cannot even print a black text document. You also apparently cannot scan. It appears the entire unit goes into lockdown if any cartridges are empty. This is a VERY disturbing caveat that I hope Epson will rectify with a firmware upgrade in the near future.

Don't buy high capacity ink 126 cartridges!

Printer is not awful, but changing ink cartidges is hit or miss.
Tip: Do not purchase the high-capacity 126 cartridges for the NX420 printer as they will NOT be recognized. The printer only takes the low capacity (124) and the moderate capacity (125) cartridges.
The high-capacity 126 cartridge has a label shows that it works with the NX420, but it does not.
Another nit: the NX420 scanner does not work if one of the ink cartridges is empty. Why? I have no idea.

Good, but...

It's a good printer and scanner, however it does have a HUGE disadvantage. The black ink cartridge is itty-bitty: it can only print maybe 20 pages of text before it's low. AND, if the ink needs to be refilled, the scanner won't work. Which makes absolutely no sense and is really, really annoying. Definitely will not buy this brand again.

Very disappointing

Good printer when it prints correctly. Most of the time, it skips lines, or parts of lines. Always low or out of ink of one color or another. Ink is expensive. Always having to clear the nozzles. Big waste of money

Can't scan or do any other function that the "ALL-in-one" can do if an ink cartridge is low. Really?

This printer does not work

This printer does not work unless all ink cartridges are full. You can not print in black & white if any of the color cartridges are low. Every time we print, we need new cartridges. I do not recommend this printer at all!

Doesn't work with one ink cartridge empty

I would not recemmend this printer to anyone. If even one ink cartridge is empty the printer just stops printing. There is no work around to not use that color or print in grayscale until the cartridge is repalced. I was printing black text and the blue cartridge went on page 21 of 31 pages and that was it. No more printing at all. Fortunately stores were still open so I could get ink but if it were a holiday I would have just been out of luck. At least there should be a temporary work around for this problem.
