I am a college student and a teacher. I have had my EPSON NX420 for a couple of years now. Although, it prints great quality text and/or photos the printer will NOT ALLOW TO PRINT IF ANY INK LEVEL is low. EVEN if the item needed to be printed is black the printer WILL NOT ALLOW TO PRINT if out of any other color. This drives me crazy because most of the time all I need is to print with black ink, which I keep on hand.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Sell the ink

Printing absolutely fine, now it tells me I need to replace the ink cartridge. I should be able to run the cartridge dry, yet I can't even continue printing when the last page was 100%.

No Help For My Printer

Printer will only print color and while selecting the Black Ink button, the printer will still print in color.
The technician tried several things but in the end recommended I take my printer to a dealer to be fixed. Also, I feel this printer uses ink very quickly.

Huge disappointment--no longevity.

I used this machine pretty infrequently for less than 18 months when it stopped recognizing brand new ink cartridges and wouldn't print altogether. After investigating, I found out it was a software problem. I was told it would be cheaper to replace it than repair it. So now I have to purchase a new one entirely. Even though I didn't use it that often, I was satisfied with it's performance until it stopped working. However, it's certainly not worth what little time it lasted.

Don't Waste Your Money

Wont scan if ink is low and won't print a completely black text document is any of the color inks are low. This is a massive design flaw and I will never buy an Epson again in my life.

More good than bad

Copies are clear. When used as a copier, only one copy can be made at a time. The button to go to two or more copies stopped working. When used as a printer that is controlled from the computer, multiple copies can be made at a time.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Decent printer BUT - BE WARNED

The printer does a nice job for the price but be very careful. My son had a paper due for his (high school) class and wrapped it up just before bed. The printer refused to print because it was out of yellow ink! his work was just black text, no colors. We set the printer for black/grayscale but that did not help. THIS PRINTER REFUSES TO PRINT OR SCAN ANYTHING IF IT IS LOW ON ANY INK - really! it won't even SCAN if any inks are low. This printer caused a late grade and a lot of frustration. there is no work-around. I will be buying a new printer NOT AN EPSON
