I purchased this machine to take to class and for sewing with friends. My main machine is over 20 pounds and too heavy. This machine is lightweight and well made. I found the needle threading difficult at first but now it's easy to do. I can get an accurate 1/4" stitch. I think this machine will last a long time.

great machine BUT...

I love this sewing machine, it sews thru everything I have put thru it. I replaced my two new CS6000i units with this one - both of them could not sew terry cloth- made skipped stitches and they are not able to take thread from large spools on the table.
But this machine has a very serious problem: the plates ARE VERY DIFFICULT to put back on after cleaning the bobbin compartment. I am here to look for solutions, the top thread gets snagged somewhere. I have now tried to close it up four times.
I have used this machine on a daily basis for 2 years now and each time it has become more difficult to put the plates back on.
WHY can't Brother have a one piece plate unit to cover up the bobbin compartment???
I don't know if this is only a problem with this particular unit - I would give it 5 stars without this problem.

I had to call twice with stitching problems. Both calls were very pleasant, with no waiting. Now after cleaning my machine and bobbin case, buying new bobbins, all is working great. I highly recommend Brother machines to my friends.

My problem with this machine is the manual that accompanies it. Why can it not be written in sections of English, Spanish, etc. versus 2 to 3 different languages in one column or one entire page.
