IT HAS A TOUCHSCREEN!

I love the giant touchscreen that fills the entire back of this camera! It's made of reinforced glass and is resistant to scratches. Image quality and features are superlative! The camera detects faces and automatically chooses the shooting mode for you! Fit and finish is of the highest quality (metal body and glass-paneled back). Oh, and the Deluxe Leather Case PSC-2050 Gray is the most gorgeous camera case I have ever seen and fits the camera like a glove! Everything about this camera is beautiful (it's construction, it's design, and just as importantly, it's ability to take beautiful images). I firmly stand behind Canon and this amazing product!
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, glass touchscreen, metal body

Best Point-and-Shoot Camera

I bought this camera while on a trip to Europe. This camera did not disappoint in daylight, dark, stills, action, or low magnification zoom. It is very intuitive and the scene features are easy to use and actually work well. In my opinion, this camera is best-suited for someone who does not consider themselves a professional photographer but yet still really enjoys taking pictures and video that are really clear without a lot of effort. Furthermore, I am disabled with limited dexterity (quadriplegic). However, the touchscreen on this camera was still easy to use for me---way easier than any other camera in its class whether touchscreen or not. Even with the touchscreen there are still enough buttons to do things manually (like zoom). Note that the only con of this camera is the low zoom (x5), which is still plenty for most applications.

Surprisingly Disappointing Camera

I have had several Canon SD cameras over the past years and have loved them - took thousands and thousands of photos with no issues, bought them as gifts for others, and recommended them to everyone I know. I unfortunately had my latest, the SD950, which I was very pleased with, fall into a glass of water while in the middle of nowhere - no remedial help to be gotten.
I thought the SD3500 would be a great camera to replace it, and I was WRONG. This camera takes very fuzzy photos most of the time and is very slow to respond, which makes it difficult to capture the grandkids in motion. There is no crispness in the photos, which I've come to expect from Canons. I've owned it now for just about a year, and I tend to drag my large SLR with me rather than depend on the 3500, which sort of defeats the purpose of owning it. And I'm not a big fan of having all the settings on-screen - I could do a lot of changing by touch and keep my eye on the photo ops, and that's no longer true.
I keep looking at the new Canons to replace this one, but I'm hesitant to jump in and get one. For every great review, I read one that talks about poor image quality. Since I do a lot of print work with my photos, I need great image quality. Don't know what I'm going to do... Because of the loyalty I've always felt for Canon cameras, I'm dragging my feet about looking at other brands. Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get the right camera with this next purchase.

Great little camera

I love this camera. Aside from the great touchscreen, this camera is a solid performer. It really tries very hard to get the right colors from a scene, and does a great job with many different lighting situations. The only thing I wish for was sharper 720p video with optical zoom during shooting. Other than that, almost perfect.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: no optical zoom during video, no mini hdmi cable included

Great Camera

Purchased Canon 970 and returned it. Great outdoor shots, but quality of indoor lacking. Waited 6 months to buy 3500 and glad I did! Great features including touch screen, but even more important, takes great pictures indoors and outdoors. Glad I returned the 970 and purchased the 3500. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Worth the Wait!
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Good, but needs improvement

This camera has a great touch screen and many great features like fish-eye and miniature mode. The HD movie is a good quality. This is one of the best cameras ever for taking outside shots: the quality is excellent. This camera is compact and is very durable. I feel like I could drop this camera off the top of a building and it would still work. However, the price is a bit much. The picture quality indoors is not what it should be for such an expensive camera. Trying to take pictures in dimly lit areas does not work well. I feel the optical zoom could also be better for the price you pay. Sometimes the image stabilization does not seem to work. Also, the shutter speed is terrible compared to other camera brands. Finally, the battery life is not good at all. The large LCD screen drains it fast. All in all it is a great outdoors camera and good for movies, but again seems a bit pricey and has a terrible battery life. I would still recommend a Canon camera to anyone though.
Pros: Nice features/settings, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, Short battery life

Best Elf Yet

Just received this camera this week. I have owned at least 6 Elf cameras and this one is really a fun camera to have with you at all times. At 200ISO the detail is outstanding!
I also shoot a EOS 1Ds Mark III and find this camera a complementary product. I can also use it to get the Grand Kids interested in photography.
I do find the mic less capable than my other Elf's. i.e., it's not near as well at picking up the sound in the "present". Sounds like everyone is far away. Don't this it's "operator malfunction" :)
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: mic has poor gain
