Don't purchase if you are looking for quality pics

I have purchased this SD3500 IS about a month after so much of research. I have compromised on touch screen feature and wide angle landscape pictures. I found many good features in this camera and are intresting. Low-Light pics are OK. But, not that great.
BUT, MAJOR thing is VERY POOR QUALITY Pictures you would get. I don't think this camera is able to have 6Mega pixel quality pictures. I have SD1100IS camera and its quality of pics are amazing when compare to this camera.
Especially, in night shots and poor quality light shots are hopeless. It may look fine on the camera display, but when put in computer, it is hopeless.
This is not the camera one should go for it for the 1st purchase. May be as standby camera you may have, that to if you are interested on wide angle range.
I would sincerely not recommend to anyone to go for it, if this is a first purchase.
Pros: add a pro
Cons: add a con

So-So Camera
on August 17, 2011

The camera takes disappointing quality pictures. I have owned many Canon cameras in the past years and this one has the worst quality pics. My old Canon a95 with 5 megapixels and Canon a480 with 10 megapixels shot photos that looked brilliant compared to this camera. Even my old G3 had better looking images. The photos are flat, grainy, and just plain uninspiring. On the pro side, the LCD is awesome and the touch settings are fun to use. The video is also awesome. If it weren't for the video, I would give up on this camera.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance

So easy to use!

I have always been a camera klutz! I got this camera for my vacation. I was delighted with how easy it was to get some great pictures of the beautiful scenery! I like being able to choose the size of the image file, depending on how I planned to use the images. I love the huge touchscreen and the user friendly interface, as well as the sleek appearance and the sturdiness of the camera. I only learned the basics and I know the camera can do much more, but I think the pictures came out really well. Documentation was adequate to get me started quickly with no issues.

Touch Screen Stubborn
on June 30, 2011

I love the camera after I read the entire manual (which I printed) and learned more about using it. It was a little frustrating until I did this. I bought it about a month ago and practiced taking immaterial pictures while reading the manual. There is one feature that I want to use, however, that refuses to work--setting touch actions. The touch actions are set, but camera will not perform the action when you touch the screen in desired path. I may take it back to the store to see if something is wrong with the SD3500 IS. Since I have only had it a month, they may replace it if they can not make it work either. Unfortunately, the clerks at the store where I purchased it are not knowledgable about the different cameras. Also, I don't think the Calibration works!
I am happy with the pictures I have taken so far! It seems to be a good camera for the price if I can get these two feature fixed!
Pros: Nice features/settings, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life, Complicated controls/menu, touch action doesn't work

Poor picture quality

I bought the Canon SD3500 to replace my existing Canon SD850. I was looking forward to the larger display, the touch screen and the HD video feature of the SD3500.
When I received the camera, I took a few test shots. Initially, the pictures looked fine on the camera's 3.5" display. I didn't have time to test it further because that evening was my son's prom. I took the opportunity to use the new camera. I took about 20 pictures of my son and his date. When I viewed them the next morning, I was very disappointed. Several pictures were blurry. Others had lens flair even though they were taken indoors. The rest were grainy and lacked detail.
I figured I just hadn't spent enough time to learn the features of the camera. So, I spent the rest of the day reading the manual and testing the camera. Since I had always been pleased with the picture quality of my older Canon SD850, I decided to take a series of comparison pictures with both cameras - using identical setting. The only difference would be the resolution of the CCD in each camera (8 megapixels for the SD850 and 14.1 megapixels for the SD3500).
After taking about 40 test shots, I checked them on my computer and was again disappointed with the results of the pictures taken with the SD3500. The picture quality was fuzzy and grainy. When I compared the pictures from both cameras side by side, I was floored! The pictures from my older Canon were much sharper and well detailed. Believe me, I really wanted to like the SD3500. The camera has great features, but picture quality is by far the most important factor of a camera. Therefore, I could not justify keeping it, so it's going back today. If it were not for its innovative design and awesome features, I would have given this camera only 1 star. I have probably owned half a dozen Canon cameras and this is the only one that has let me down.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance

Exceptionally Cannon

This is my third Cannon digital ELPH. Excellent throughout. Meets and exceeds my expectations. The touch screen was temperamental at first and takes some practice but it is getting easier as I use it more. One negative comment; the operating manual. Only the first chapter comes printed, 40 out of 180 pages. The remainder are offered on the Solution Disk that comes with the camera. If this is a cost considered omission I recommend that you offer it as a purchase accessory. As the camera has many features, it is fairly complicated thus it is very inconvenient and at times impossible to reference a computer to access the desired information.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
