Honestly?!

I bought this as a replacement because HP stopped providing drivers for my old printer in Windows 7 - I wish I hadn't bothered.
I opted for the Officejet 4500 Wireless thinking it would be easier to share with the family - me working, my wife doing our accounts and my grand-daughter doing her homework.
What a nightmare! Every time I try to print I get Error Messages about the Ink Cartridges; Incompatible, Not Genuine, Not Installed, etc.
I have tried the Support Routes and get nowhere, just told to reinstall the drivers, it doesn't make any difference.
The problem is, it is a nice printer WHEN I GET IT WORK. Hooked up to a single computer via USB Cable it is fine. Wireless, well . . . I'm on the point of sending it back and asking for a refund.

This is a budget printer - and it shows. That said, the print quality is good and the scanner does a great job. Had a faulty original but HP replaced it without question. It's plasticky and noisy, but it seems quite cost efficient and overall I'd say it's worth forty or fifty pounds.

The print is of exceptionally low price, good quality printing both in black and white and also in colour, very easy to set-up and use. Highly recommended

Its a great little printer very simple to use after set up.Does everything I require. My only complaint the spare paper sticks out too much, enabling my grandchild access to the paper!!!

HP Officejet 4500 review

This is a good machine for the price but runs out of ink quickly. Perhaps a slightly bigger cartridge would have done the magic.

Ruined by a tiny flaw

Excellent print quality, excellent scanner, as long as you use windows to add the scanner and printer instead of using the supplied software, it works and keeps on working. For maximum reliability, set up a DHCP reservation, or use a fixed IP. Trying to recover from a changed IP can mean installing and reinstalling components for hours with dozens of copies of the printer appearing in Windows, some of which hang around after the inevitable restarts.
I don't fax so haven't tried that function
The supplied software is a resource hog so I suggest you avoid it, other than the status monitor which is pretty good.
So, the fatal flaw - I have three of these and they all lose time/date and location settings when you power down the printer using the standby button on the front - so I have to leave them on all the time - it's poor design, a tiny, yet unforgivable oversight that should've been caught in the product dev cycle.
I still give it 4 stars though, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else for the same reason I didn't give it 5 stars - that power/settings bug
