This is a good printer, easy to set up and easy to use. Fax can load multiple sheets automatically.
Instructions are a bit limited and could be improved

I am used to HP products and prefer them to other makes. I previously had an officejet 5600 which I found very easy to use as an OAP, although changing cartridges was a little difficult and eventually the reason why I bought a new one.. The 4500 I have replaced it with aeems better built, however the various buttons take some getting used to and I would prefer to have all instructions and advice to be in a printed booklet (as with the 5600) rather than on the computer as I always have difficulty finding what I want to know, and retaining the info for future use. It would be helpful if HP thought of the elderly and supplied a fully explanatory booklet with the machine. I personally am over 80 but enjoy my computer and being able to use my officejet. I have yet to need to change cartridges, so cannot comment on the ease or otherwise of doing this.

What you don't know before you buy - this printer will only link wirelessly with one device at a time/the drivers on the installation disc caused Adobe to drop out when printing (fixed by removing all Adobe and HP programs and then reloading HP first then Adobe)/some of the other driver software also failed to load correctly/can't get it to work on a simple USB switch (though this might be more to do with Windows 7)/minimal ink in cartridges as delivered/sending feedback to HP didn't produce the promised response. It prints great though when you get it working...
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

HP officejet 4500

We bought this printer because it said it was an office jet and thought that with this title it would work well
What we have found is that it uses ink like it is going out of fashion - we are going to try the larger ink replacements but feel that we should not have had to do this.
If it is not capable of dealing with the printing in a small office enviroment then it should not have the title of 'officejet'.....
I would only recommend it to someone who wanted it to use at home not in an office.

I bought this printer for my Mum who is 70+ and wanted an easy to use no-frills All-in-One Printer which was not wireless enabled.
The set up was easy to follow and the functions have been a great success (now receiving lots of scanned documents I never knew I wanted).
The use of ink seems to be very economic, as She has now had the Printer for 3 months and is still on the trial printer cartridges.
