I received this as a Christmas gift in 2009. I love the ease of installation and the wireless capability. Prints great copies and scans. I have really enjoyed not having to have cords connecting everything and being able to print from anywhere in the house.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Photos dull, color not right

The printer works fine in general. Since the reviews for it were great, I bought it, but I was quite disappointed when I used it. The photo quality was rather poor, it was dull and misty and dark, and the color was quite different from the image I saw on the computer screen (too much magenta). I bought this printer to replace an old canon printer MP830. The photo prints by MP830 were far superior than this new MX870.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: Dull Tones & Colors
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Cannon printer exceeds expectations

I still have a Cannon multipass F50 for over 10 years and it is still working great so when I got a new computer with windows 7 I was very upset my working cannon printer would not work with my new laptop and was not supported with drivers from Cannon. Reluctantly I purchased a new wireless printer MX870 and was pleasantly surprised. It is quiet, fast, and makes wonderful color and black and white prints. The wireless is dreamy and works with both my new and old lap top. I would highly recommed this printer. I use it for work printing office documents constantly.
My old printer sits quietly in the background knowing it will soon be donated to a worthy cause. This printer rocks!!!!

Good quality for the price

We purchased this unit about a year ago and it does everything we need. I've seen other reviews complain about WIFI issues, but we have had no problems. The one issue I do have that others have noted is that if you run out of a colored ink it wont print at all, even in black and white, which is a poor design. Ran into that issue once and now just make sure i have backup ink in all colors.

We previously had a Canon MP830. Two things I can say about this printer is that it is not ergonomically designed. I have accidently shut if off while lifting the lid because the on/off swith is too close to the edge of the lid. Also, I sit to the left of the printer and it seems to unpleasantly pinch my thumb every time I let down the lid. This printer will print on both sides of the copy paper. It will not scan both sides of the original paper.
Pros: handles wrinkled paper well, prints on legal paper
Cons: expensive ink, paper tray could hold more sheets of paper, instruction book could have been better

Great, Great, Great

After reading all the reviews, i opted to buy this unit. The positives far outweighed the negatives. This had all the features I needed. As a real estate agent, printing and faxing properly is very important. This was the easiest setup, i did give in and read the instructions carefully. The pictures were incredible- are hanging some of my photos on the wall. I am not handy or mechanically inclined. Today I made my printer wireless. The directions provided are great and my printer is now wireless. When I had a question in the beginning, I called the support line, they immediately picked up and answered my question.
advice- go buy it.

Outstanding printer/etc

I purchased this printer to replace another Canon printer that I had for 4 years. I purchased it directly from Canon and that was a financial blessing. This multifunction printer is quiet, fast and the installation instructions were very easy. You can use it as a hard line or wirless or both. I have not installed it for both as yet. It is amazing to see the differnece in technology in 4 yrs. This is a top of the line multifunction printer and the sales rep's at Canon were very knowledgable and friendly.
Pros: easy instructions for hard line
Cons: difficult to install hard line and wireless

Bought this to replace a multipass and and am very happy with my choice. Easy to use, quiet, duplex printing a real plus, looks good on my desk.
