Very Disappointed

My last printer from canon lasted 8 years and was very sturdy. This one is a piece of junk, made out of cheap plastic material. It feels and performs like a printer you would get at a dollar store. Very upset, I was looking for the most expensive multi-function printer that takes 5 inks and this happened to be the only one at the store. I figured...well, its a canon, how bad can it get, but it seems that their printers can get worse over time.
Pros: Easy Setup, fast print speed
Cons: Difficult to use, Low Quality Output, Flimsy Construction
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

MASSIVE HEADACHE

I used a PIXMA 830 for many years and was extremely pleased with the performance and ease of use. When it came time to replace my old printer I "stepped up" to the PIXMA870. It has been nothing but a nightmare from setup to everyday use. Even the colors do not print true when printing photos.....everyone looks like they are sunburned! Also, my programs such as Paperport DO NOT interface with this machine. Stay away, do not buy!
Pros: wireless (ha!)
Cons: setup difficult, colors dont print true, poor scan performance, does not interface with common programs

Only works occasionally

This printer only works occasionally. It has been extremely frustrating to deal with. I have it set up wireless and have Windows 7 and Vista computers. Sometimes when I print, the printing window will show up but it never prints. Other times nothing at all happens. About half of the time when it actually does print, it will print only a portion of the document or photo and then spit out the paper.
The scanner function is equally frustrating and not work the time.
Canon knows how to make great cameras and lenses, but they do not know how to make software for printers.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Ridiculous product for my money

- nice look
- digital screen
- nice look

Cons:
- wireless feature doesn't work; printer must be reconnected to the network for every printing
- sometimes printer doesn't print at all
- takes over 30 sec to print a single B&W page w/ simple text
- always gets stuck when printing images
- makes loud whirring noises when idle
- do I really need to say more?

HATE IT

Dont buy this, its a piece of junk. Bought less then a year a go and dosent work. Ink lasts 1 day and I want to smash it with a bat, don't wast your money!

I spent several hours trying to set up a wireless connection, and it still doesn't work. I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I know computers/IT pretty well. Hopefully you have better luck than I.

Too Complicated!

Printer makes it quite difficult for those people with limited vision, rather that providing colored buttons for on/off.
Larger lighted window for printing options with larger print to read.
Discription of how to use fax, scanner, printer, very complicated for the average user. along with having to store paper in two different areas of printer.

Good for home use

Printing quality is very good and I love the duplx feature. Scanning is also very good. I find the copy feature really slow, but good quality. I love the fact that I could set up the fax and it actually worked. Overall I think this is a very good multifunction printer.
Pros: reliable, Low Ink Consumption, easy to use, duplex printing, wireless is flawless
Cons: slow to copy
I would recommend this to a friend!
