First time purchase of a multi-function machine
Overall the machine does all we need and more. Mostly used as a copy machine/printer. Especially double sided printing.
Major concerns: 1. Language used in manual and on screen. a. Standard Copy to me is one sided. b. Manual is not specific and was very difficult in set-up as well as usage.
2. Way too many controls in OK area for my fat fingers. 3. Automatic switching did not help my nerves. 4. When you get older and you will maybe you will appreciate more simple things in life.
Pros: reliable, durable, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: Difficult to use, Large Footprint, Heavy/Bulky, Difficult Setup
I would recommend this to a friend!

Do Not Buy this printer...

This is the second printer that I have purchased from the Canon MP/MX line of printers. Both of the units have encountered errors that are only reparable via servicing. The required service costs as much as a new printer. I have always had good luck with Canon products but after this experience I will not be buying another Canon printer...EVER.

This is the best printer I have ever owned. It is so easy to use. I particularly enjoy the scanning feature as I do some work from my home.

Very difficult in gong back to Print Mode after using the FAX or SCAN mode, very time consuming and frustrating. The cost of the unit is too much to be going through these frustrations
Cons: Difficult to use, Difficult Setup, unreliable, difficult to trouble shoot
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It seems that Canon multifuntion printers consist of the same internal hardware, and that the electronics and software is what gets changed around. This makes it easy for those customers who keep coming back to Canon for a printer. Having had the mx 700, I find that the 870 is easy to install, and operate. It also prints well - even though there are hiccups with printer speed. I had no problem getting ahold of tech support about a wireless issue on my laptop. The problem was taken care of with one phone call.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, Low Ink Consumption, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: bottom paper tray is flimsy holds little paper

First of all, Canon products are the best. The MX870 is my latest purchase (totally satisifed with it). I also have a Canon image glass copier (at least 10 years old), a Canon Pixma ip 1600, Canon ip 2600 printers and an old Canon Sure Shot camera (still works). I am working toward a new Canon digital camera. I am 71 years old and still believe in good values.
Pros: reliable, durable, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use
