After reading endless reviews, we purchased the MX870 online for a great price. The set up took me about 2-hours, but then I am not a whiz with anything mechanical. Photos come out brilliant and dry very quickly. Word Processing has been enhanced with the two sided copy printing. It is the finest printer, copier, fax and photo card user that we have ever had- equivalent in quality to much more expensive machines.
Pros: reliable, durable, Low Ink Consumption, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use

MX870 vs MX860

I like the fact that someone has the good sense of providing an All-in-One for home use that mimics an office machine. I had an MX860 that was taken out by a lightning strike on my home. • What was immediately evident after setting up the MX870 was how much easier it was to use compared to the MX860 especially menu navigation. • Frankly it wouldn't hurt if it was faster, however, • It copies, faxes and prints on most media. • The wireless capability is plug and play and fairly easy to set up. • The menu navigation was the greatest improvement over the MX860. • And it prints a tiny bit faster but holds less paper. • Its Pix Bridge enabled and has an USB input. • It has SC Card slots which allow adding or removing jpg’s and other formats. • It has a big footprint but that's not an issue with me. • 5 refillable ink cartridges that are very accommodating and I take full advantage of saving on the cost of ink. • The print quality is more than above average but again, a little slow. • Our 6 year old granddaughter is able to fax copy and print from this machine. • I've owned the MX870 for 15 trouble free months and have re-filled the cartridges 3 times. New Cartridges cost $4 to $6 on line.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use
Cons: Large Footprint

ink runs out faster than ever!!

The price was excellent for this printer however, the ink runs out very quickly and is expensive to replace. It's also tricky to get the printer to print in black ink when the color ink is gone. This really is annoying when you have mostly black and white printing.
Cons: High Ink Consumption, won't print in black when color ink is empty
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nice Printer, no doubt

Bought one of these printers about a year ago, and have been using it pretty much constantly. The scanner function is excellent, the print quality is outstanding, and I really like both the duplex printing function and the ability to load letterhead type paper in the back and auto-select.
The only minor issue is the cost of the ink tanks, although it does last for a good long while on the large black tank. It is possible to refill tanks with a little reprogrammer, and with that it's the most incredible value ever. But even if you just buy their ink, it's an excellent printer.
Pros: high quality construction
Cons: chews through ink

Don't know why others are having problems, this printer has worked flawlessly since we got it. Easy to set up, linked right into our existing wireless network and everybody is able to print to it even though we have 5 different laptops with a variety of software and operating system configurations
I would recommend this to a friend!

I purchased a competitors product and had to return it due to a lack of features and an inoperable fax component. The Canon MX870 has a robust set of features, is easy to set up, and best of all has a fantastic fax component. It works weather or not I use voice mail, special lines like ISDN or DSL, etc. This is simple the best all in one machine I've ever seen!

Best Purchase Ever

I have used several other all-in-one printers and yet found myself always going back to purchasing a Canon all-in-one printer. This will be my third printer. I'm glad to see I can purchase this printer at a lesser cost, then when I previously purchased at the original price. I prefer the Cannon's, they are certainly printer friendly, if you know what you're doing and read the instructions. Regarding fast print speed, "it would be great if it had more speed to offer." Having individual ink cartridges is definitely a plus for me. High Ink Comsumption using the 220 Black can be rather costly. This purchase doesn't replace one I already have, its in addition to it.
