My expectation was too high after reviewing this product and was disappointed. The ability to create/edit pdf files was limited pages which I did not expect nor was it mentioned when reviewing this product.
Pros: Easy Setup, easy to use
Cons: Slow Print Speed
I would recommend this to a friend!

I purchased this printer about 4 months ago and I love it. The quality and ease of use it great. I expecially love the fact that I can complete close all compartments to keep dust out and when I get ready to print, it automatically opens to print. The wireless if perfect. My printer is downstairs and I have no problem at all. I recommend this to others.
Pros: reliable, Compact Design, Easy Setup, durable, Low Ink Consumption, Lightweight/Portable, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Printer

Owned theMX870 printer for several weeks. I love the 2-sided printing and the automatic duplex printing. That and the price were the big selling points. I do a lot of 4x6 photo copying and this does excellent copying. It was easy setup and I was up and running in no time. The only thing that I wish Canon would do is to include all of the instruction manuals in book form and not on the software. It also doesn't include the USB cable. I am very satisfied and would recommend this to a friend.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use, 2-sided copying, automatic duplex printing
Cons: no usb cable

Quick & easy

Fast, easy setup - it recognized my WiFi network immediately and easily connected to it. Printing from my laptop or desktop is no problem at all. It's a little big, but I knew that when I bought it. For the money, it's a really good all-in-one.
It does seem to print a little slow, but maybe I'm just used to my laser printer. The photo colors are excellent, and the blacks are crisp and clean. Text quality is outstanding - laser quality, if not speed. The automatic duplex printing is convenient, but does call for a little patience, since it waits for ink on the first side of each page to dry before printing the other side.
The only con is the small paper tray. It holds 150 sheets, and in the week I've had the printer, I've refilled it twice. Having a separate feed for photo or special paper is nice, though, and the document feed for copying, faxing or copying is great, too.
All in all, it meets or exceeds all my expectations, once I understood it's just not blindingly fast. For home use, it's great. For office use - well, you might want to go ahead and spend the bucks on a good laser printer.

Always buying ink!

Colored ink is used up quickly for a very few printed pages that contain text and a graphic. MX870 won't let you print if you are out of any of the 5 inks including grayscale only seems to happen alot and we don't print alot of pages. When I need to print more, I go to our local doc/shipping store. Also, there have been several times when the printing has been blurred or difficult to read. Have had this printer since 12/25/2010. We are putting up with this multifunction printer because of its limited and occasionally poor quality printing.
Pros: Compact Design, Easy Setup
Cons: unreliable, High Ink Consumption
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good unit for the price but has a major problem in selection features. The 850 model was mor user friendly but thought that this wireless feature might be useful. Major problem is the information manual that comes with the unit. I was fortunate being that I had the 850 unit and was familiar with the the box but it stops there. First time buyers would have a major problem understanding the manual. The on line manual could use help also.

Best printer purchase for me

My (2) Canon Multi-purpose printers suit my needs perfectly. If I want Office quality functions, I have them; If I only want to capture pictures for printing, I have it; Coping scanning and household functions are there for me so I have the best of all my worlds.
I only have one minor complaint, I worry that my printer will go out of style when the Windows industry makes changes and updates are a thing of the past for my model.

Absolutely the best Printer I've ever owned

I've had a PC since 1997 and have always used a multi-function printer. Over the years, I've had several different brands of printers. Some have been good for 2 - 3 years; some seemed to suddenly become dead junk in my office within a few weeks after the warranty expired. I had 2 printers do the latter back to back before I decided to give Canon a try. I looked at available models at the local office supply, then hit the internet to make my final selection. I purchased the PIXMA MX870 on March 2, 2009. This printer still works as well as it did when I took it out of the box. I love the auto-duplex features, especially printing. The scanner produces great quality documents and photos on both copy and import functions. The ink usage seems lower than some of the other printers I've owned. I use the printer every day, and have done several large print jobs (over 7,000 pages) . The quality of the printing just is the best I've seen in a printer. I have found that if I'm printing duplex , there is less problems with bleed through over the long term with at least 28 lb paper.
