Peace in the Middle of the Storm

I find it helpful that there are some options provided as to how I could proceed. And when I had a question, I just made a phone to Intuit and the person who talked me through my problem was calm and patient and never made me feel that I was below average in intelligence. She understood how to talk to a non tech person and walked me through it like a good friend.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax - my new best friend
What's not so great: can't think of a con right off hand

Finished my refund

Was a bit confused also that the product differed from the Deluxe version last year. I'm hoping that I didn't need the upgrade as there was nothing indicating that I might need to do this. I just get nervous that I am going to misunderstand what information I need to enter and I'm not comfortable importing information from a financial institution.
What's great about it: imports last years info well
What's not so great: felt like directions harder to follow this year
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Not Using Again

Next year, I will probably be using one of the free tax programs. I am a Senior Citizen with a limited fixed income, and the cost of Turbo Tax is too much.
What's great about it: fairly easy to use and follow the helps
What's not so great: THE COST - of the software, then the high filing fees for both the Federal return and the Stated return.

State of Confusion

I could not resolve how the software calculated that I had already paid $2200.00 in State of Ohio taxes. I'm on a retirement pension and NO taxes are withheld for the State of Ohio. I used Turbo Tax to do my taxes last year and I paid $993.00 in state taxes. How is it this year I'm getting a state tax refund? I went back through both the federal and state return process twice and got the same result every time. The software claims there are no errors and no missing information. I tried the help center support but none of the answers to my inquiry applied. I'm scared. Hope I don't go to jail for this. I've used Turbo Tax for almost 20 years and have not had any problems with it but this is something I don't understand and cannot find an answer to. Maybe I'll try a person-to-person tax service next year if the State of Ohio doesn't send me to prison.
What's great about it: Great maximized Federal refund
What's not so great: Not clear on "Ohio tax already paid"

We did not file for a couple years and I was on the phone for three hours with a wonderful young man from Texas helping me and we finally got it he was a blessing in disguise!

Frustrating

Could not review and edit the capital gains section when my investment manager sent a supplemental tax report.
One 'review question' asked for a state ID but I had no idea where the blank was arriving from. Need to be able to go back to the area where the blank exists.
Could not add 'Line 77 on Form 1040' after I went back for review.

What's great about it: The general flow through the process i fine.
What's not so great: Making adjustments is frustrating.

Bad marketing

i am likely to not purchase turbo tax again next year due to the misleading marketing regarding versions needed and free state filing. i spent a lot of time on phone with tech support, too much
What's great about it: basic tax prep worked
What's not so great: marleting misled users regarding additional fees and free state filing
