Convenient and Easy Filing

I've been using TurboTax for several years now. I love how easy and simple the process is. It takes you step-by-step through the sections and all you need to do is refer to your tax statements.
What's great about it: Intuitive
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

the worst turbo tax edition I have used. I used to be a turbo tax fan but after this I may go to another provider.

I work internationally and get a daily per-deum from my employer but it is far below the DOT or State Department allows. I know that I am entitled to a portion of the difference but I found the sorfware was vage about how to figure this out or even claim it at all.
What's great about it: Got a big return
What's not so great: Not enough in on international per-deum.

Why would anyone not give Turbo Tax a try?

As we're both retired and things don't change much year to year it beats going to a "tax pro" who'll charge you a healthy fee for doing what Turbo Tax has just done with you.
What's great about it: Keeps running tab of last years info
What's not so great: Not really

Too many additional steps

May not be in correct order but here goes:
My return was MFJ:
While doing process of answering questions, I checked "NO" for any Energy Improvements but when Review was done, it indicated a "YES" answer. I had to correct this.
For charity I claimed a vehicle and entered info during the process of questions/answers, but Turbo didn't carry forward that info to the 1098-C form - I had to re-enter the same info again.
On NY State questionnaire I left blank questions on Family Tax Relief and Property Tax Freeze since they didn't apply to me, but upon Review stage it required me to answer each of these questions.
For my son's return #Single#, and on process answered that he is not property owner. In the Review stage, Turbo asked to fill in Family Tax Relief and Property Tax Freeze answers. all the above - Should have been intuitive based on questionnaire.

The Framework

The turbo-tax program has made me the family tax guy! Even if someone in the family has a CPA prepare their taxes, I do the preview of what to expect. The next year I end up doing the taxes. The difference is the fee. I have been purchasing Turbo Tax since 2009. Over the years the program has gotten better and the process gets better.
What's great about it: The comfort of your own home, responsive programing, diffinitive answers to questions, examples, and refenences.
What's not so great: Prompting for updates - do at load anyway.

Good software

TurboTax is good tax software. It's simple enough but still has a level of complexity for most average returns. I think the state filing fee should be less. Turbo Tax makes enough from the software. All in all, good job.
What's great about it: Easy to use. It seems to be a little smarter this year.
What's not so great: Unless I go through the whole interview, I feel like I may miss something.
