Interview question #7

When entering my PA 1099-R information called for in Item 7 (i.e. The IRA/SEP/Simple box is checked on my copy of the 1099-R) it does not allow that there is no such box on my 1099-R and the total income amount is posted to the wrong income slot.
I had to call the TurboTax phone number in order to get it straightened out. While the person handling the call was able to solve it fairly quickly, it wasted a lot of my time. Next year your instructions should recognize this possibility and give the person the correct options to choose from.

Great

I found one spot where I must of double clicked and I couldn't hit the back button. It was entering my Mortgage information. Also, I had heard that it was free to file. I think you need to be more upfront on the cost. Who's not going to use you for just the federal and not the state? Why not bundle Federal and State together AND have it so that both can file for free. Not a fan of the "hidden" costs.
What's great about it: Fast, accurate, Step by Step
What's not so great: Unable to Backstep, Expense
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

The need to scroll down on info all over again when just trying to check one item that was already in the filing. Particularly when told to download the investment file info from Turbo-tax that you had downloaded earlier.
What's great about it: saved time on calculations
What's not so great: dumb questions are asked of those filing with investments

I know that when I'm done filling out my tax forms that Turbo Tax has walked me through every step and I haven't missed a thing. Almost makes doing taxes fun...almost.
What's great about it: Walk throughs are extremely helpful
What's not so great: Haven't found one

No explanation and not enough clearity

This year(2014) was poor in terms of making sure that all questions where 100% certain that the preparer would understand what was being asked and I found at least two or more questions in the state taxes area. One was in the pension contribution area and another in the education account. Also create an option that says (N/A-not applicable)
What's great about it: Healthcare updates and overall updates of turbo tax
What's not so great: definetely not enough expanations and clearification in the state taxes area, specifically under pensions and contributi
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Stumbling block

Have used Turbo Tax often.
Occult place to enter ID fraud IP PIN. No prompt to do so. Should be a screen which says: "Do you have and identity fraud IP PIN. If so, enter is here."
So, e-file rejected. Awaiting to see if second filing will go through.
