I knew I didn't have enough deductions to exceed the standard deduction, but I didn't know how to by-pass the deduction segment. I could have saved time by just using the standard deduction.

I've been using Turbo Tax through several years now, and I think this year was the easiest ever.

I like the progress thru out the program, that you can go back and forth and change items. I like the review that the program does to checks your final forms for correct info.
What's great about it: very specific thru every progress
What's not so great: Can't think of anything now

Easy to Use

Overall my experience with Turbo Tax has been positive. I have used it for several years and it meets my needs. Electronic filing has been easy with no glitches. I am disappointed in the significant increases in cost to buy and e-file.
What's great about it: Most was easy to use
What's not so great: Took me some time to figure out how to go back and look at specifics
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Refuse to e-file Utah State

Utah State e-file failed to e-file 2 years running. Very poor Turbo tax.
What's great about it: Federal E-file fine
What's not so great: State E-file lacking again for Utah 2 years running

Answers from public and from Turbo experts should be displayed together but marked appropriately. Also, on 1099-R box 7, code seven is not explained satisfyingly why it is exempt or why it is taxable by the state. The answer says: deepens on you answers. Well, there are like 8 or nine options none of which matched my situation. I still do not know for sure if the company's stock savings plan distributions are qualified plans or not for the state.
The other issue is that i am paying my disabled (dependent, 31 years old) son's student loans, yet I can't find any place where I could deduct the interests I paid,. all other sections were clear and worked just fine. .Thank you much for the opportunity to review Turbo Tax.

What's great about it: Mostly smooth and easy to sail through..
What's not so great: Many answers are stiff and often nothing to do with the questions.

Makes things easier

I have been using TurboTax for many years and find it to be quite helpful for one of my least favorite tasks. I don't mind paying taxes but I hate doing taxes. My only problem with this software is the lack of transparency when an error is encountered. It asks you to update info but you are not quite clear what you are doing unless you move out of the Easy Step process into the Forms view. My experience with the software has helped me considerably over the years. Good product.
What's great about it: Walks you through the process, has at least basic answers
What's not so great: Still a bit arcane
