I have used TurboTax for at least 6 years and each year it becomes easier to use. Instructions are clear and the explanations of potentially confusing areas are very helpful. With the periodic checks throughout the process you are guaranteed an accurate return.
What's great about it: The sequence of TurboTax makes it easy to follow. Each year you use TurboTax seems to make things simpler.

I've been using Turbo Tax for over 10 yrs Love it

Since the stock options problem that cost me in back taxes & penalties in 2004 & 05. I have not purchased or sold any stocks that required Turbo tax to handle. But in the future I will be doing that again and I hope Turbo Tax has been fixed in that area. I had to hire an accountant to redo and resubmit those 2 years and it cost me money.
What's great about it: Gets a little better each year. Clear instructions.
What's not so great: Did not handle stock options correctly in 2004 & 05 taxes.

2014 TurboTax review
on February 18, 2015

I've been using TurboTax for almost 10 years and generally I'm very happy with the product. However there is one area that I think could stand some improvement. Over the years I have sent a few suggestions about features that could be made a little more user friendly but never received any comments back from Intuit nor seen any improvement to the feature in following years. A case in point. For several years I have been receiving a Canadian pension from my former employer. Since they don't provide a 1099R I have to create a substitute. When I start a new year's return, certain information is downloaded from my previous years return, including some of the information about the Canadian pension. However, there is no substitute 1099R information downloaded. Every year I spend a lot of time trying to figure out how I can create the substitute 1099R. It turns out that I must first delete the downloaded pension record from the previous year and then create it from scratch. On the first screen in this process, there is the opportunity to create a substitute 1099R. I think there should be a way of either incorporating the substitute record in the download or indicating on the downloaded record on the new return that a substitute is required for this item. Having to delete the item and then set it up from scratch certainly isn't user friendly. I'd appreciate your comments.
What's great about it: Has all the features I require.
What's not so great: Some features need redesign to make them more user friendly.

error in the code for Virginia state returns
on February 18, 2015

There's an error in the TurboTax code for Virginia state returns. I opted to send my tax refund to a 529 college savings account that I have set up for my daughter. TurboTax asks for the name of the account owner, beneficiary, account number, and routing number. However, a routing number is only required for College America accounts. It is NOT required for inVEST accounts (I called the Virginia 529 plan to ask). This is also clearly noted on the Virginia state tax form. However, TurboTax requires a routing number, even for an inVEST type of account, and won't proceed to e-File unless one is entered. This is clearly an error in the code.
I had to back out of e-File, re-do the State tax form, and opt to have the refund sent to me. I could not complete the option to have the funds deposited in the 529 account.
