Federal should have Quicken-TTax links for all major forms including W2's

Good but one miss

I have used TurboTax for many years. This year it did not run me through all the steps for my state return, and I would have missed my 529 tax credit ($1,000). I went back and forced it to go through each step and it was added and recalculated my refund. I would hate to miss that much money.
What's great about it: easy, covered almost all areas
What's not so great: Missed one big deduction

Great online info of child's return criteria

I really appreciated the information about my kids' need to file #or not# that the software walked me through. I had not had to deal with that before - now I know I'm not setting them up for a bad tax experience somewhere down the road! Thanks Turbo Tax!

Good, but...

First time I had a problem after more than ten years of using the product. Proceeded to filing anyway and finally discovered the issue: one box that needed to be blank instead of having a 0.00 content. Go figure!
What's great about it: Interview process is just great.
What's not so great: The process hung right during review, right before filing.

Good, but could be great!

I have used TT for my personal taxes for more years than I can count. It is familiar and simple. I really like the walkthroughs and the questions it asks. I will continue to use this - even though my best friend is a tax accountant!
Room for improvement, though. They need to lean less heavily on community help and build a better answer section on basics. For example, there is a lot of confusion on the HUD 1 for new homebuyers. A simple discussion or faq would be nice, a line-by-line would be better. Also, every year it tries to talk me into doing my state taxes. I live in Washington where there are no state taxes - but it would waste my time going thru the motions. It should know that and stop bugging me. Actually, it should TELL me that I don't have any state tax filing requirements.
What's great about it: Simple, easy to use. Familiar format is great for year over year use.
What's not so great: Relies to heavily on user-groups for help.

Another efficient and accurate Tax Season

Each year TurboTax presents the tax interview in a consistent and logical order. I don't get any surprises and am confident that everything is covered. I wouldn't do my taxes any other way.
What's great about it: TurboTax is consistant year to year, no surprises.
What's not so great: None that I can see.

Missing 2013 Tax Information

My 2013 tax information was not transferred to my 2014 tax preparation when I installed the 2014 version.
Also the prompt for the electronic pin number was incorrect and I had to refile the 2014 return.
What's great about it: Cheaper than a CPA

I like many of the features of Turbo Tax. I was concerned when I heard in the news that identity theft was occurring with tax submissions and was glad that Inuit helped fight that. I do wish I could have more easily gone back or reviewed my steps in the Montana state tax.
What's great about it: specific help on schedule A helpful
What's not so great: hard to change data on state of Montana
