I started doing my income tax by computer/internet when MacInTax first came out. The program developers did a very good job in having information and contacts to help with going through problems in the past. These help features are not nearly as available as they used to be. I still completed the process of filing my taxes using TurboTax, but not without some bumps along the way.
What's great about it: Successful completion of our return
What's not so great: Problems with the "Required Minimum Distribution" questions while inputing 1099R (s) for pensions

I didn't have too many problems other than finding my own records.
What's great about it: All went well, relatively simple and easy to follow
What's not so great: Haven't filed, myself, for a few years and stumbled a few times
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Easiest return ever!

I recently retired and that coupled with a 100% increase from my usual tax preparer finally pushed me to TurboTax. This was the easiest preparation ever with them guiding me step by step. They even asked me some questions that allowed me to claim some deductions that my former CPA never mentioned. That alone would have saved me hundreds of dollars over the last few years. I should have done this 18 years ago!!!
What's great about it: Thoroughness of step by step directions
What's not so great: None!

Update Software

Software allows you to go back, but not forward?
If you flip thru your completed return, the answers to some of the questions will have been erased. This has been an issue for years. Why do you not show last years answers to these questions?
Don't see any tax rate schedule? e.g. what bracket am I in?
I hope that uses have the option to talking to a trained rep. Your lack of this option using Quicken is outrageous. Chat room Quicken reps are not competent. I am willing to pay for good service.

18 Years of Easy

This was my 18th year using TurboTax to file my taxes. My tax situation has changed over the years, but TT continues to be easy and reliable. Even with lots of itemized deductions including in-kind and volunteer miles it is a snap with TT.
What's great about it: Super easy return
What's not so great: Kept bugging me about a state return that wasn't needed.

I love Turbo Tax, just wish it was easier to find answers to questions on their help section.
What's great about it: Very user friendly

Only confusing question was did my wife file a state income tax for previous year. We filed jointly.
