Tax Time is Almost Fun!

So quick and easy

I have used turbo tax for five years now and every year it gets easier and easier. I have used turbo tax for everything from the year I sold my home, moved, bought a new home and began adding family members. Thanks Turbo Tax.

Why the Changes?!

Some of the forms had gone MIA unless I was willing to pay a very big upgrade charge -- not nice, folks - not nice at all. The navigation was also dicey. At first it looked as though all my income sources had been "imported" but then they hadn't, and I ended up backtracking and having to enter them individually anyway as I'm used to doing. There was no indicator that nothing had been "imported" as there was in past years. There were also "pieces of information we didn't need before that we do now" #after the return had been checked for accuracy and found fine# and every entry changed my refund/balance due on both State & Fed. I don't know why somebody thought they needed to fix something that wasn't broken, but it is broken now and I'm looking elsewhere after this.
What's great about it: step by step is still there, at least
What's not so great: Can't believe the changes

Be a Tax Accountant - Just Point, Type, & Click

If you are competent enough to save your W2's and other tax information, there's absolutely no need to hire an accountant. TurboTax will guide you through the process of completing your taxes. It does the math and all you have to do is point, type numbers/names, and click. I've used TurboTax since the 1990's completing state and federal income taxes without any problems. This includes years where I've had to calculate capital gains, solar energy credits, and wages/deductions for a household employee (or what everyone else calls a babysitter!). Save time and money and let TurboTax do the heavy lifting!
What's great about it: Import W2's, Last Year's Info, Detailed Interviews
What's not so great: Charge to e-File State Taxes
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

refund frustration

This year's version does not communicate well for updates. I took a LONG time and then errored often. I'm going to do my state taxes by hand because I'm tired of trying to upload the forms.

I was worried this year about the negative press, but decided to purchase Turbo Tax again. Glad I did - my returns don't use whatever forms a lot of folks are upset about. TurboTax was easy to navigate and the Help Center quickly provided the information needed about my child's tuition expenses. Very happy with TurboTax, again.
