Review of 2014 software
on October 12, 2015

TurboTax should send out a list of required paperwork for each user: 1099 INT form, Personal Property Tax, etc., all based on previous year's forms. It would warn me ahead of time what I needed from the folders of information that are kept in different places (physically and digitally). TurboTax gets easier every year: only my anxiety for preparing anything with numbers gets worse.
What's great about it: Gets easier every year
What's not so great: pricing going up

Good program but quirky.

Overall good program, been using for years. Sometimes your answers don't wind up on the forms as you'd expect them though.
What's great about it: Gets your taxes done efficiently.
What's not so great: Some quirky menus.

I have lost track of the number of years I have used Turbo-Tax. I have never had an audit or even a correction from the IRS. Over the years, taxes have become more complicated due to home purchases and sales, college for kids, investments and sales, etc. Turbo Tax has handled it all.
What's great about it: Really fast calculations. Helps with complicated refunds
What's not so great: wish it could gather all of the data.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Excellent...BUT....

I've been using TurboTax since it first appeared as MacIntax years ago. LOVE the software even though Mac version updates have taken a little longer to appear vs Windows. It's mind boggling how complicated Congress has made filing personal income tax. I was looking forward to things being simpler when I retired. Ha! I retired in the middle of 2014 and finally submitted my return via TurboTax. It was the most complicated return I've ever filed! Much more than being self-employed in one job while earning wages from another. Brace yourself for those 1099-Rs from annuities, IRAs etc. that all have different tax rules! It made even TurboTax more difficult--probably have fees/costs entered in the wrong place but as usual TurboTax worked something out to green light exiling.
Paying taxes--necessary
TurboTax--priceless
What's great about it: Thorough, Easystep is a lifesaver, no math errors--EVER!
What's not so great: REALLY NEED more assistance on handling 1099-R retirement income and where to enter fees.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Can't Do Without It.

What can I say. Even though it has its shortcomings for overseas filers, because of the ever-changing status of our tax code, I don't think an ordinary human can cope with it without a program such as TurboTax. I've been using it faithfully for years and have complained in the past about your inattention to overseas filers, to no avail. The shortcomings still exist. Here's the problem:
I file a joint return with my wife. All of her earned iincome is foreign earned income and is not reported on a W-2 form. The first thing TurboTax asks for is information from her W-2. If I give her income information as though it came on a W-2, when the program realizes that we need to file a Form 2555 (Foreign Earned Income) it once again asks for the same information. If I put it on the 2555, the amount, is shown as DOUBLE the actual amount! I've figured a workaround but short of that I'd be paying taxes based on twice her actual income! Once again I ask, PLEASE FIX.or at least make it clear how to handle this not uncommon situation for many overseas filers.
(I wanted to send a photo along with this review, but I couldn't find one which showed me pulling my hair out in frustration with this shortcoming of TurboTax .)
What's great about it: Tax code so complex, I can't do without TurboTax to file my return.
What's not so great: You don't seem to like overseas filers!

Used Turbo Tax for several years. Ease of use and complete review makes it awfully hard to forget something that should be included.
What's great about it: Easy to use, reasonable price
What's not so great: Hard to get other than "standard" answers

Problem with Affordable Healthcare filing
on October 13, 2015
Posted by: JayC1785
This is the first year I've had a problem with TurboTax. My income changed during the year, and that changed my eligibility for APTC with the Affordable Healthcare Act. TurboTax could not handle this situation, and I was forced to file by mail.
What's great about it: Basic things worked as usual
What's not so great: Could not file electronically due to program miscalculation regarding healthcare.
