I have used TTax for several years - it keeps getting easier - obviously they listen when users make suggestions or complaints.
What's great about it: easy to understand, easy to navigate, very well structured
What's not so great: it wasn't this good last year

First year filing after retirement and was confused. More help in finding out what is and isn't taxable when receiving an annuity and educational deductions would have been nice.
What's great about it: Easy to download and follow prompts
What's not so great: expensive. not every box looking for information had a help option.did't know how much of my annuity was taxable.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

TurboTax_Filing

Enjoyed using Turbo Tax again this year until I got to the e_file section. I had the same problem that other users seem to be having of "getting connected to e_file" pages. Read a lot of answers but none were using the same browser (Google Chrome), I tried everything from reboot of my computer & reboot of wireless router to changing my browser settings as well as other browser (IE) settings. After another reboot of my computer I finally got through and was able to e_file my returns.
What's great about it: easy guide through all forms and uploads
What's not so great: problems with e_file connections
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Great Program

Been using this program for years. It gets easier to use. The guides for preparing the return are great. If you leave the program, your return is saved and you can pick up where you left off. It includes the special circumstance of clergy, especially for self-employment taxes. E-filing is very easy and you get confirmation that your return was received by both the Fed and State government. The menus are attractive and easy to read. Overall, a great tax preparation program!
What's great about it: easy to work with
What's not so great: none

My 1st attempt was easy had things on it that were not there last year. It was rejected. Was unable to reopen so I had to do another one by manually entering everything. Stuff on the 1st return were not on the second. The first return I was supposed to get 164 back on the second I owe 174. I am still paying last year and quite frankly I don not have the money. I have been up for over 24 hrs in tears because the reject made me late in filing. I would love to know why the difference in the 2 returns and why I could not open the 1st one.
What's great about it: It was easy
What's not so great: rejected. The redo was completely different

Short, Sweet & to the Point

I've used Turbo Tax for the last 10 years to do my taxes. I am very pleased with its ease of use! One of the most important things to me is the fact that I can do SEVERAL tax returns legitimately having only purchased ONE copy of the software. There are two things that I might suggest - more 'tuning' than anything. First - the IRS DOES allow one the option of paying any balance on a payment plan - however, I have looked all over for a way to do this via Turbo Tax and cannot find same. Second, if you could add a 'settings' somewhere that would allow me to set the ability to type in my W2's BEFORE I start working on my taxes - that would be kind of nice. The way it works now, I have to bypass allowing TT to load W2s several times before it gives me that option - and it is only applicable to THAT return. As I said - these are just 'nice to have' things - not super important and with or without - Turbo Tax has proven to me that it is an EXCELLENT software package.
What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: None

Made my day simpler

My 4th or 5th year of using Turbo Tax. Collecting last year's information, re-using it, and guiding me through the process - extremely helpful. I made a mistake in one area entering a roll-over as an investment. The back button got me out of trouble, I reassessed what I had done, and then revised my inputs. A couple of minutes and once down the correct path, the relevant information was where I needed it and I was confident that I had done the right thing.
Will be back again next year!
What's great about it: Tons of information, good step by step approach
What's not so great: Language in the Investments area assumed prior knowledge?
