The CD is easy to download and the step by step instructions is easy to understand. I don't have a difficult tax return, so filling in the information was really easy.
5 stars.
What's great about it: Easy step by step instructions.

I have used Turbo Tax for years. It keeps me from HAVING to hire an accountant. It is easy for me to understand. I like it! Thank you Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: Easy to use- even when running late; Catches errors you don't want to make!
What's not so great: There weren't really any cons... Could be a little easier to correct errors.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

This version is certainly a significant step back from the turbo tax I have been used to. I doubt I will use this again next year. The application stalled and was slow proceeding from one tax block to another. It did not have the nice logical flow and prompts I'm used to and that made it easier to fill in. It's not intuitive and the window helps would often cause the application to minimize and I'd have to pull it up again. It was not me it kept happening over and over. Going back to re-check completed blocks or edit was difficult, not easy navigating back like before. Had to redo stuff several times. I've been loyal and found incredible value in turbo tax for years but as I reflected I think this edition was sloppy and quality was severely compromised and showed even in appearance. Looked cheap! I doubt turbo tax will come back under current leader, he was trying to monetize and didn't include required forms on the deluxe versions for crying out loud. Unless there's a DRASTIC redo and they talk to users to improve the app I'm done. they have lost the lead
What's great about it: Helped get my return done
What's not so great: Slow kept stalling, has lost a "flow" and easy feel, doesn't appear as"smart" as 2 and 3 versions ago, kept breaking off
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

State Return questions
on April 16, 2015
Posted by: MemTENC
I live in Tennessee and do not have to file a state return. Turbo tax should recognize that residents of the Great State of Tennessee do not have to file a state tax return 99.999999% of the time and therefore Turbo tax should not ask me if i'm sure that i don't want to efile my state return. The state return check box should not be selected by default when efiling for Tennessee residents. by default Turbo Tax should recognize that 99.9999% of Tennessee residents DO NOT have to file a state return.
What's not so great: State return not needed

Problems and Failings of Turbo Tax 2014
on April 16, 2015

I've been a Turbo Tax user for 11 years, and until this year, it's been great. This year (2014) was was a deep disapointment. The primary difficultly was that the importation of the previous year's return. Although the import seemed to occur correctly, and did bring in some of the textual information correctly, it brought in completely wrong numeric information. For example, the previous year's state tax refund was off by a factor of 100. My Roth Basis tracking has disappeared, previous year's donation carryover's dissapeared. Etc. I pointed TurboTax to all the previous years returns, locted in the TurboTax directory, and imported them, but all to no avail.
What's great about it: Missing this year
What's not so great: Failed to Import 2013 Data Correctly, Less Clear Guidance Questions

Taken by surprise by not being able to file a 1040

I don't like surprises and I don't think they advertised their changes to the basic program well, I'll be looking around for better alternatives next year.
What's great about it: familiar cadence to entry of data
What's not so great: Surprise requirement to pay for premium when basic used to work fine in past

Excellent program. My only complaint is paying extra to e-file state taxes.
What's great about it: I can do my own taxes at home.
What's not so great: Being charged extra to e-file state taxes.
