I've used Turbo Tax for 5 years in a row and as long as you have your documents handy its fast and painless, especially when it incorporates previous years returns into the present return. Thanks Again !
What's great about it: So easy to use and error proof !
What's not so great: None !

I buy TurboTax every year and love it! I tried Taxcut one year and hated it.
What's great about it: questions are direct, choices are mostly intelligible
What's not so great: some part could refer to other parts that are similar

Satisfied - but!!!

I must of tried 20 times to file and it wouldn't let me! My family didn't have insurance so it alerted me that I had a penalty, but every time I went to file it sent me to an exemption worksheet to to exempt my family. I didn't want to exempt my family, but it kept sending my to this exemption worksheet to fill out the exemption reason and exemption months. After many efforts of trying to file I just did what it told me too, and I filled out the exemption reasons for each of my family members, followed by the months that they didn't have insurance. So it finally allowed me to file. My insurance offered at work was expensive, so I choose not affordable. My federal taxes went from owing to a small refund. Hopefully, I did it right? It's 6:30 central time on April 15th, and I need to get this done, plus it's my birthday, so I'm Out!!!
What's great about it: Easy to navigate and has helpful hints
What's not so great: Insurance penalty was confusing

Better than doing it by hand?

Overall, it was a more pleasant experience than picking up the basic forms and filling them out by hand. The software asks a series of questions lifted directly from the tax forms that are given.
I have three major complaints:
1. The software, during its "Final Steps" stage, asked me to find out how to "avoid insurance penalties in the future", despite the fact that I've been insured all year long (and my return reflected this). The redirect took me to what I sincerely HOPE is an internal site, that asked for some personal information and at the end told me there was nothing more to do. This is just plain bad practice.
2. There was a field that was missing from one of my W2 forms, and there was no description of said field provided when TurboTax demanded I provide the box.
3. Although we paid for a boxed version instead of using the free federal edition, we were still obligated to pay for our state tax return. We would not purchase in the future if we must buy the state taxes separately anyway. Although not strictly deceptive on their part, it is counter-intuitive and a more clear labelling pointing out that state is not included with the basic Home edition would help.
What's great about it: Questions are usually straightforward
What's not so great: Deceptive "Final Steps" portion, didn't label some of the fields

Great program
on April 15, 2015

I really think the program is great. However, I thought I would be able to download another state program for free. I had to file in two different states. I had to pay to download another state and that was added to the fee I had to pay for filing so I ended up paying for the program and paying for another state download and paying to file for one state. That added up.
What's not so great: Unexpected payment of state download.

hard year

we've used Tubo tax for 7 years. This year it didn't meet our needs.
What's great about it: loaded easily
What's not so great: we needed more information than the program provided this year
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
