2014 Turbo Tax

This product is easy to use and guides you through the filing process. The price to file state taxes was $5.00 more at check-out than indicated. Overall it made filing simple.
What's great about it: Easy to use, Ability to stop and start, Information from prior years info is added automatically
What's not so great: More expensive than other similar products

Been using Turbo Tax for years. It's easy to use and I feel confident with it's accuracy.
What's great about it: E-filing to save paper and postage; easy program to use.

Saved my Bacon

Turbo tax has been my choice for 15 years. They never seem to be off the mark and they have saved me grief and pain many times by the thorough approach they take to details and explanations.
What's great about it: Very complete program, ready guidance for every situation I encounter. Easy to use and reduces uncertainty to a minimum
What's not so great: Had to pay to e-file state twice. First attempt did not complete.

Using TurboTax to deduct job search expenses

TurboTax guides you through allowable deductions for a home office and your car, your computer, other electronics, your mobile phone, etc. But the deductions seem more designed for people who are actually running a profitable business from home rather than unemployed job seekers. As an unemployed job seeker myself, I found this section to be rather awkward to work with, but I got through it and don't think I was violating any rules. Of course I had to use my "home office" and electronics to conduct my job search and I can prove that all of my deductions are valid, if audited.
What's great about it: TurboTax guides you through allowable job search deductions
What's not so great: Job-related deductions aren't customized for unemployed job seekers
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
