Tax Pains
on April 15, 2015
Posted by: CHBTax
I've used Turbo Tax for several years and its a mostly painless process except for paying. I get a free state filing and it never says that I'm not being charged. I've called each year and have to be talked through it, hopefully, that will not be an issue this year.
What's great about it: Questions are clear and easy to answer
What's not so great: Frustrating when I give an answer and you keep questioning it

2014 Turbo Tax Review
on April 15, 2015

95% of my experience was great, as usual. However, I was lead into an endless loop when I tried to run the Review function and was told that I had not completed the section on Health Insurance. When I chose "continue", it took me to the Other Taxes section. When I followed the instructions on how to get to the Health Insurance section (select Federal Return, then the Health Insurance section), it again took me to the Other Taxes section. Finally, I skipped out to a Smart Check and was able to get things finalized. This was a very bad thing to experience on the night of April 14th! Never had a bad experience with Turbo Tax before. I will still buy it next year, but would appreciate hearing if this was a common problem.
What's great about it: I like the "lead me through" feature and the prior year's return numbers shown for comparison
What's not so great: Turbo Tax took me into an endless loop

Easy but hard

Love the ease of transferring data from 2013. Hate being asked for 2013 data without a link to the location in Turbo Tax. Confusing and conflicting requests for printing and saving the returns - one click, please.
What's great about it: Questions are brief and explained
What's not so great: Data requested is not always easy to find, e.g., AGI for 2013
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

DEDUCTIONS AND HOME OWNERS DELUXE
on April 15, 2015

I HAVE USED TURBO TAX FOR MANY YEARS AND EACH YEAR IT SEAMS TO GET EASIER. I HELP MY KIDS THAT ARE STILL LIVING AT HOME WITH THEIR TAXES AND THEY ARE AMAZED AT HOW SIMPLE TURBO TAX MAKES DOING THEIR FORMS. I AM CERTAIN THAT THEY WILL ONE DAY CHOSE TURBO TAX TO DO THEIR FAMILY'S TAXES
What's great about it: EASE OF USE, ASKS SIMPLE QUESTIONS AND OFFERS ADDITIONAL DESCRIPTIONS TO CLARIFY QUESTIONS
What's not so great: HARD TO SWITCH BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN MY OWN AND MY KIDS FORMS WHEN THEY ARE HAVING QUESTIONS
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Fine product but extra fees are obnoxious
on April 15, 2015

The charge for electronic redelivery of a refund does not appear until the several steps later. It is not clear at the point of decision...and enough has been said about Inuit's obnoxious attempt to remove Scedule D from TurboTax Deluxe to force consumers to buy up to the Premiere product.
What's great about it: good workflow, easy to navigate
What's not so great: Fees - lots of them - and presented after the point of decision
