Easy to use
on April 13, 2015

It has a simple, but complete, guided process to do my taxes. It's the tax laws that aren't simple! Takes some of the hassle out of tax preparation. I've used Turbo Tax since 2009.
What's great about it: Simple & well guided
What's not so great: I still have taxes taken out of pay (LOL)

Stress-Free way to File
on April 13, 2015

I have been happily using TurboTax for the past 15+ years.
I love that TurboTax allows me to do my own taxes:
• in the comfort of my own home
• on my schedule at MY convenience
• at my own pace
• and stop at any point and ALL my WORK is SAVED
• and start right where I left off when I am ready to continue
Intuit has made changes to Turbo Tax every year I have used it and I have NEVER been disappointed! Every year they manage to improve upon the last, even if it is only a minor simple change.
I think the cost and any associated filing fees are very much worth it. I am SO thankful for this product.
What's great about it: Simple * Easy * Walks You Through * NO Stress
What's not so great: None for me

Done in Less Time
on April 13, 2015

Overall, I am very pleased with the amount of time it took to complete my taxes. Filing was easy, and typically the refund comes back quickly. This is much better than sitting in some store-like location while someone else prepares your taxes using a program similar to TurboTax. It really is easy if you are organized throughout the year.
What's great about it: Able to sit at home and complete my own taxes
What's not so great: I had to dig into the help section to find the answers to my questions. Some questions I am not sure were answered

Still Love Turbo Tax
on April 13, 2015

I lost all my files and backups on January 1, after using Quicken and Turbo Tax for over 11 years. I grew to enjoy the way Turbo Tax and Quicken worked together. I also loved how intuitive Turbo Tax was at gleaning data and trends from my previous returns. I freaked out at having to re-create the wheel this year... but it was still easy and virtually painless. The only way it could be better would be if we didn't have pay income taxes at all :-D
What's great about it: In Spite of Losing my previous TurboTax files, it was still easy
What's not so great: None

Steep drop in quality and value of TurboTax Deluxe
on April 13, 2015

I have done my taxes with TurboTax since 1996 but I will now think twice about purchasing TurboTax in the future based on my experience with TurboTax Deluxe 2014. Like many other long-time TurboTax Deluxe users, I was thoroughly confused by Intuit's attempts to explain exactly what functionality was removed from this year's edition and whether those changes applied to my tax situation.
For example, my wife has a brokerage account and does occasional commissions as a freelance artist. For the brokerage account, it appears that TurboTax Deluxe will handle interest and dividends from securities and mutual funds in the account (Schedule B) but TurboTax Premier is required to report any realized capital gains from security sales (Schedule D). Likewise, my wife's occasional commissions qualify for reporting on a Schedule C-EZ rather than the full schedule C. But TurboTax Deluxe supports very limited reporting of business income and expenses that is more restrictive than the requirements for Schedule C-EZ. (However, its still provides the Schedule C-EZ form.)
I was able to enter my taxes without upgrading. For one, my wife's brokerage account had no transactions this year (dividends, purchases, or sales). However, entering my wife's commissions on a Schedule C-EZ was more trouble than it should have been. None of the commissions were large enough to be reported on 1099-MISC. However, my wife did receive a 1099-MISC for a few dollars in royalties on a novel she had written a few years ago. Entering the one 1099-MISC was not a problem but the Step-by-Step in TurboTax Deluxe insisted that I upgrade to Home and Business Edition when it offered the chance to edit her business income. By tinkering around, I discovered that the step-by-step would prompt me to enter additional business income but only if two or more 1099-MISC entries were added to the business. I could also report the additional income directly by going to form mode and overriding fields (which is what I finally did since I had just the one 1099-MISC).
One other problem that I ran into with TurboTax Deluxe is that it does not provide a direct means, either in the step-by-step or in forms mode, to enter direct deposit information on the tax forms for my state if I choose to file by mail. To enter this information so that it appears on the computer readable forms that TurboTax prints for my state, I had to start the process to file electronically but stop short of entering payment information for the filing fee. Since states like mine no longer offer the option of rebates by check, TurboTax Deluxe should support the entering of direct deposit information on tax forms for those who file by mail.
In summary, TurboTax Deluxe feels like a product whose features were selected based on data analysis of what some percentage of past users typically report rather than on the actual tax situations of its past users. It seems odd that a person who owns a brokerage account would have to upgrade to Premier only in those years that they sell securities but can use Deluxe in other years when they receive only interest or dividend income. Deluxe should cover this user regardless of the activity in their account, and TurboTax Premier should be reserved for users with rental income, partnerships, stock options, or other investments outside of bonds, stocks, and mutual funds. Likewise, TurboTax Deluxe should also provide full support for Schedule C-EZ rather than its made-up definition of a simple business. Then, TurboTax Home and Business would be required only for those needing the full Schedule C. These divisions makes a lot more sense to me than Intuit's seemingly arbitrary selection of features.
What's great about it: Still easier than doing taxes by paper.
What's not so great: Removing support for investments and business left glitches.

Wonderful

I pay for my kids college education and they are still my dependents. Therefore, their 1098-T goes on my return and not theirs. As one goes through the education questions, TurboTax could help us poor parents by making this a bit more clearer. It is clear in the help boxes, if one bothers to search.
What's great about it: Easy!
What's not so great: Clumsy when dealing with dependents in college.
